Disappointing that the team failed to qualify in a year that they won the conference championship.
Great year 1 under the new coach though. Now she has to put her recruiting skills to the test.

LOL Kancher. That guy is a CLOWN and blew his shot a long time ago.
I'll say it again - GW should have never fired Rizzotti. I don't care the roster they came with - fact is she delivered two championships (tournament + co-reg season.....it still counts) and an NCAA appearance before being unfairly hamstrung in the wake of COVID. You cannot justify firing a a WBB/UConn legend, championship coach, and Olympic gold medal winning, US Women's National Team and Olympic FIXTURE and trading that in for the last five years of slop from McCombs.
I get some people on this board had bad experiences with her or didn't enjoy her sideline antics (but loved Mike L....?!)....but c'mon..it's okay to admit GW messed up. Look where we are right now.

If I were Castro, and if I could get a lot more money somewhere else, I'd leave without a second thought. I wouldn't care at all about how many minutes I get at a more prominent program. After he's done with college, I think Castro's earning capacity wouldn't be significantly less even if he didn't get the same minutes/numbers with a bigger program. Additionally, and I hate to say it, but look at Darren. After least year's huge season, he came back and, well, he isn't exactly lighting it up. This year's performance isn't going to get Darren any NBA looks and it's not going to help him get a big contract anywhere. You think he's not regretting taking more money from a big program now? I bet he's sick about it (assuming he had bigger offers).
The way the rules work now, I think 9 times out of 10, A-10 players should grab the money while it's available.
Nailed it. These big time portal transfers and the NLI money that backs it up is 75% about CASHING IN and 25% about pro prospects and future in the game

do we miss Rizzotti yet? At least in her first four years you got meaningful postseason basketball and a pair of championships
Did you say that? With holdover Tsipis players, GW tied for 1st and lost 1st round games in the A-10 and WNIT tourneys in year 1 and finished 5th in the conference but won the A-10 tourney and then lost badly to Ohio State in the 1st round of the NCAA’s in Rizzotti’s year 2. In year 3 GW finished 8th and lost 1st game in A-10 tourney and improved to finishing 7th and losing their 1st tourney game again in year 4. In her final year 5, GW finished 10th and went 1-1 in the A-10 tourney. So no, we don’t miss Rizzotti yet nor the way she trashed the program on her way out. Props to Mayowa, Faith, and Essence for sticking around despite the failures of the program during Rizzotti’s tenure.
I see you referencing championships in that argument so we'll agree to disagree. I value championships. Rizzotti delivered one (two if counting reg season title). Who cares what players it came with?
Trashing was deserving. She had a legitimate gripe getting hamstrung in a covid year

Didn´t someone transfer from GW and go on to win a National Title (at KU, maybe?). Although limited by injuries, Kethan Savage did well all things considered at Butler. While not a "step up", Marquin Chandler remains a legendary figure at San Jose St. No ill-will towards any of them.
Lasan Kromah transferred to UConn and was a part of their 2014 title team

I realize many of us have poked fun at this whole exercise but at the end of the day, whatever nickname is chosen is presumably one we'll need to live with for a long time. I've spoken to about 8 different individuals over the past few days, both alum and non-alum. Sadly, each one approached me rather than the other way around. To those who were unaware, I shared the 10 finalist names being considered.
The subsequent feedback was awful. I hope that there are people reading this who are either in a position to enact change or who know people with this capacity. Please...go back to the drawing board. These are just not good choices. Some of these are just terrible sports nicknames (can you imagine if we were really regarded as The Catalysts moving forward), some of them perhaps convey the right idea but instead, the wrong word is being used (monuments, not monumentals), some may be going for a cool vibe that may not translate well (one person said the Blue Fog sounds like an environmental disaster), one fails to account for the perception of political divisiveness within the school (The Squad), one connotes violence and weaponry (Revolutionaries), etc.
Also, does anyone know how the final selection will actually be made? The school has announced a series of opportunities to make your choice known, but in the end, will this boil down to a popular vote? Will there be a committee of a handful of folks who ultimately make the decision? Or, do we turn this over to the branding agency as well?GWmayhem, I respect your opinion, but respectfully disagree with some of the input you received. I don't like most of the names either (and would prefer to keep the Colonials moniker), but as long as the school is moving forward with the change, I think the moniker "Truth" is excellent and meets all of the school's guidelines. It's a moniker that can be easily branded and I think it will be well received by most, other

Keith as someone who is in the know with both that era of GW basketball and the PN/ML saga itself, and who has proven to have insider info during that time on multiple occasions, I can say WHOLEHEARTEDLY that ML did not do anything wrong. He saw that PN was acting inappropriately with the players, having private unsanctioned meet ups and meetings with them, and was openly breaking rules by giving them money, inviting them to his home for dinner, etc. He decided to go to the President about it. They REMOVED Nero from team activities that same season (look it up!) and that is when accusations started popping up against ML. MULTIPLE players have taken to social media or made statements to the effect that absolutely none of that was true by the way. The TITLE IX investigation CLEARED ML of any wrongdoing earlier that year. Forest refused to release that paperwork (I believe deadspin article mentioned this). Then "anonymous" players and staff went to the post immediately following this. I would name these players (one of whom never set foot on the GW hardwood) but I don't want to get banned. ML is not this abusive monster you are lead to believe he is. He is not homophobic, racist, abusive, any of that. Nero played all of his hands after realizing that the next president wouldn't be the bag of useless dust the sitting one was at the time. I wish I could give you more. I unfortunately have to be vague cause I don't want to out the athletic department employees (at the time) and players I knew when this was going on. But yes I can say ABSOLUTELY NOTHING WRONG cause I know it to be true. Per multiple sources, multiple times, without any wavering.

On the women’s side, we were blessed to have JJ for three seasons that gave us a false sense of our place in WCBB. We’ve had success since she left for the WNBA but not anywhere remotely as close to those teams and Rizzotti is a major reason for that. I was fairly involved with the team during part of her tenure and to say she was difficult to work with is an understatement. I do believe coach McCombs will bring this team back to postseason play sooner rather later. This will help bring some back to the site.
In fairness; Rizzotti’s team also won A10 championships (1 reg season, 1 tournament) - and lost in first round of NCAA tournament. So same level of success as those JJ teams, minus the reg season record.
