I'm a little late with this and sorry if it was mentioned already but the teams who advanced to the semifinals of the Crown tournament each received thousands, while the winner may have gotten $100,000. I bring this up to say, CC may have allowed the outgoing transfers to play so they could get a chance to win money if GW was able to advance to the semifinals.

Maryland was/is in an interesting situation because its been rumored that Kevin Willard was going to take the Villanova job a few days before they lost to Florida tonight. If Willard does take the Villanova job (like tomorrow!!), you have to wonder how much of a distraction that was for the players, especially coming off buzzer-beater win against Colorado State last Sunday.

I think the timeframe wait of 2.5 weeks is fascinating for the sake of drama and priorities.  Look at West Virginia!  They declined the NIT and their coach might not even be with them if he takes the Iowa job. Did they have a team meeting and decide that a trip to Vegas and chance for dividing $500K make accepting the CBC invite appealing? Same goes for CC and his guys.  There had to be ambivalence over balancing losing to Mason, start considering the portal, recruiting, and now preparing for Boise?  Talk about a roller coaster of emotions.  How does CC and this team devote the next 2.5 weeks to staying on the same page and maintaining loyalty to the team and program.  A tall order IMO.

Great points!! With the new landscape of college basketball where EVERYONE transfers immediately after the real season ends, having a tournament start on March 31 is puzzling. I guess GW and the other participating teams see it as an opportunity for the staffs to coach games regardless of who is still on the team.

You guys think the spread has shifted in George Mason's favor because people see the #2 and #7 in front of the teams and think Mason is way better than GW? Or does someone in Vegas have insider info that GW is not going to play well today!!

John Feinstein was actually supposed to be at Capitol One Arena covering today's A-10 tournament games. They left the seat vacant that he was supposed to be in tonight. I posted the picture down below. I haven't caught today's games but I assume the announcers would mention his passing during the night games since he was a big fan/advocate for the A-10 and GW baskettball for a long time.

Might detail a really good team. Condon/Haugh great center combo (plus they have a 7’9” guy who doesn’t play - yes, 7’9”) and some really fun guards like Willie Clayton.

The Wingspan certainly is impactful, amazing what an endlessly great career local DMV product  Durant (injuries aside) is having e.g with that masssive wingspan, even as he nears 40, the body may age but that wingspan and crazy shooting touch still plays up.  If he wants to seems like he could make it well beyond 40 like Lebron.
Speaking of which....

Question for you, are you surprised that Ryan Kalkbrenner keeps coming back to College? I realize he's very thin but doesn't his game translate to a useful NBA player?  Question #2... thoughts about Edey in the NBA? I know we've discussed going back a few years what a great college player/unknown NBA player he'd be with his massive size and throwback style game, the Roy Hibbard type players sort of went extinct, thoughts on those 2 Bigs? Mobility is not ideal but what dominant college players they are, and they bring more to the NBA game it seems like a college master like Drew Timme with limited ceiling and NBA fit problems

3rd Question for the forum...Dayton VCU... ceiling on them this year? they both look like March Madness auto bids so far... any other A10 teams that could make a run into the Auto Bid territory with a good enough OOC?

I definitely agree on Kevin Durant! He could play well into his 40's because the biggest factors in his success is his height/wingspan and shooting ability, not necessarily athleticism. Durant will be able to shoot over everyone well into his 50's and maybe early 60's and hi

Zach Edey's success and where he got drafted was stunning to me because it seemed as if the

I just saw on the Kenner League's twitter (or X) site that Gerald Drumgoole Jr. has 20 first half points for Univarcity as they lead SMi INC. 44-29 at the half. A Univarcity game is posted up above, there's a chance Drumgoole was playing in that game.

There is a third GW player participating in the Kenner League..Trey Moss. According to a recap that I posted down below he's playing for the team 'Call You Mother.' Call Your Mother will play tonight at 6 against Sparc McClinton All-Stars. If Moss plays tonight,it looks like he'll be matching up with Erick Green (a local player who was a standout at Virginia Tech several years ago and had brief stints in the NBA) and Maryland transfer guard Rodney Rice. Being a Kenner League advocate (LOL) I think it can be beneficial for GW players to go up against veterans like Green and/or highly regarded college transfers/players like Rodney Rice. Dye Sporting Network should have the game posted tonight or tomorrow.

I posted another game from last night down below, Symonds All Stars vs. Univarcity

Gwmayhem,  you're 100% correct on that, its just when I see Symonds All-Stars (or Hoop Magic), my mind immediately thinks of Symonds coaching a team full of GW players (the Pops-Mike Hall freshman class, the Pinnock freshman class, the Joe McDonald freshman class, etc.) and his son!! Even if it was 15+ years ago!!

About future Kenner League games, I saw that the Dye Network broadcasts live feeds of summer league games from across the country during the week. If they do live broadcasts of Kenner League games (that involve GW players) this weekend, I'll post it here.

It looks like the Dye Sporting Network is posting every game and has someone doing commentary on each game. For those of us who have been Kenner League regulars, Symonds All-Stars has been "GW's Unofficial Kenner League team" going back about 20+ years. But it doesn't appear as if any GW player was on the Symonds All-Star team that played over the weekend. I''ll go back and look if anyone from GW is on Symonds All-Stars or any other team. The Dye Sporting Network has posted 4 or 5 full games from the weekend. Here's some other games down below that may have some GW players

I agree with GW0509 about the TV money being too good for GW to drop down to a lower conference. I actually think the proliferation of transfers can help GW because players want to play, as simple as that sounds!! Even if GW doesn't have a lot of NIL money, you will still have a lot of players who want the opportunity to get shots and minutes on a somewhat large stage like the A10 in Washington D.C. In my opinion, the biggest problem for GW has been getting the right mix of transfers/recruits, not necessarily the NIL money. The right coach/recruiter (if it isn't CC) should be able to turn things around at GW because of the hundreds (or is it thousands!!) of players that will be available in the portal each year.

"Detached from reality" is the perfect description of Doug Gottlieb's mindset on coaching. I understand he's been in the Hot Take business for possibly 15+ years now but you'd think a guy like Gottlieb whose father was a coach (I think Gottlieb's brother is a long-time coach too) and also was a fairly accomplished player himself would have a deep understanding of how demanding the job is. Gottlieb seems to be treating this like a father with a 9 to 5 job coaching his 12-year-old kid's soccer team on the weekends!!

To be honest, my immediate thought upon hearing this news was that Gottlieb would probably keep his national radio show while also serving as a college basketball head coach.  This thought was not serious but nevertheless, Doug plans on doing both jobs.  He certainly has the ego for it.

That said, he has remarked that this will allow Green Bay to pay him less than they otherwise would have to.  He raised the notion of accepting some buy games and putting half the money to the NIL collective and the other half to the athletic department.  Is this even allowed?  Sounds like it's not allowed.

BTW, Gottlieb has also served as an AAU coach in California for a number of years.  Not suggesting that this ought to be enough to land in the head coach's seat, but it's a little more than what I first thought.

I also question how Gottlieb can be serious about being a head coach at a D-1 school and keep his radio show, especially a Hot Take radio show!! Even if keeping the radio show allows him to take a lesser salary at Green Bay and use the additional money for other needs at the school and his team/staff, I don't see how he can pull this off. It comes off as some sort of prank or skit to me!!

Two big things in the portal today that I’ve seen that are semi-relevant to us:

1) Robbie Avila follows his coach to SLU. He’s going to he fun to watch in the A10, but not fun to play against.

Robbie Avila aka "Cream Abdul-Jabbar" aka "Larry Nerd" developed a cult-like following last season due to his look and how productive he was. Having a high-profile player like that in the A10 is great news, especially if St.Louis is real good.

I need to add the verbal commits links for everyone because players seem to be announcing their intentions to transfer every 5 minutes!! They now have a feature where they have the names of the recent transfers scrolling on the top of the page. A name that pops out on the 'Recent Transfers' list is a 6'10" 250 pound junior center named Trey Edmonds from the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA). I have no idea if GW would be interested but ANY center in the portal with that sort of size needs to be mentioned/speculated about here!! I even put his profile down below, he's from Denver and  went to George Washington High School!! Maybe, he's interesting attending George Washington again for college! LOL

About DePaul, the announcers mentioned that Villanova had beaten them by like 26 and 38 in the 2 regular season matchups, so the fact that last night's game was close was shocking. But what wasn't surprising is that DePaul had multiple opportunities to win the game at the end and I don't think they ever got clean looks, they turned the ball over on their final possession which allowed Villanova to run the clock out. I give DePaul credit for coming to New York and playing hard unlike Georgetown! What's funny about Georgetown is Cooley seemed to have a big smile on his face as his team was getting embarrassed for most of the game, he must have been relieved that the season was going to be over at about 9 eastern and he could be put out of his misery!!

Even with the injuries to Kansas, you'd expect a blue-blood like that to be competitive regardless of who is out! They also got blown out at Houston in the regular season finale. Didn't Kansas start the year as the overwhelming favorite to win the National Championship? They shouldn't be this bad even Dickinson out.

Bishop, Buchanan, Edwards and Hutchinson (were) four of the A-10's best players. How do you lose 12 straight with those guys?

I'm glad you responded, my original comment was inspired by a comment you wrote in another thread about GW losing 12 straight games with those 4 players. I didn't respond to your comment but I 100% agreed with it!! I could understand those struggles with one of MoJo's or JC's teams where GW was trying to turn Chicken SH@# into Chicken Salad but this group wasn't as bad as those teams. I got triggered reading that GW ended the season 1-14 and had to comment!! LOL

It seems as if ALL of Tony Bennett's teams (even his elite teams) have been offensively challenged, when you combine that with them having a hard time winning at Virginia Tech in recent years, you get a horrific 34 point loss. Virginia scored 49 points in a win over the weekend.

About dmvpiranha's list of teams with acting losing streaks, Missouri hosts #5 Tennessee tonight at 7 on the SEC Network. I'm interested to see what the atmosphere/effort is like for a BCS team that has lost 12 straight games, especially playing a Final Four caliber team like Tennessee.

Georgetown is in an interesting situation when they host St.John's tomorrow night on FS1 because St. John's coach Rick Pitino basically threw all of his players under the bus (saying things like they weren't athletic, they don't play hard, they don't play smart, etc., he even called some of them out by name) after they lost at home to Seton Hall on Sunday. Playing Georgetown would normally be a GET RIGHT game for a team, but I'm curious to see how St.John's plays after Pitino put all of the blame on his players.
