The Monumental Matchup is back at Smith Center October 16.

Great to see this looks like it will be an annual matchup

Surprising Gtown didn't insist on it being a home game for them every other year?
Odds this evolves into a regular season game?

Really good crowd last year this year should be even better.

Rental costs of Capital One make Smith Center a better destination for both teams.
Seems to have been a "big" ticket cost increase over last season

Can I be less than enthusiatic about this? I know ads at venues and sponsorships of college teams is nothing new, but turning (paid) players into walking billboards is not the "natural evolution" I was hoping for. Instead, maybe the school could sell the nickname? Imagine "Introducing your The George Washington University Vanda Pharmaceuticals!!!!" (hey, that would be even longer than the current one! quite an accomplishment)

I am waiting for each individual player to sue to get their own cut of the payment

Seem to be the early favorites but that list could grow quickly.

Boyton as interim HC
full blown HC search starting April 2027

For the first time in seven years, a men's college basketball head coach is leaving to take over an NBA team.

Michigan's Dusty May is departing the Wolverines for the Dallas Mavericks

Timing is odd no? You just convinced all these guys to stay or come and now you are bolting?

Seismic move for the sport since May had very quickly established Michigan as one of the top two or three preeminent teams in college basketball

Heard on radio show that Howard received $2.1 million for making it to NCAA tourney, and another $2.1 million for winning their first game.  How sweet it is for their program.

likely to be shared with other members of the conference
I'd expect them to get 2/9ths of that - after expenses are deducted
then 1/9th to each of the other 7 MEAC schools

A-10 will steal a bid if anyone other than St. Louis or VCU wins the A-10 Tourney, with Dayton as the likely bid thief

GW Women's Hoops » GW @ Rhode Island Game (2) » 2/27/2026 10:07 am

URI is tied for first place with GMU.

Should both win their last game they will be regular season Co-Champions, but URI would be the #1 A-10 Tourney seed due to their win over GMU.

GW Women's Hoops » GW versus Richmond Game » 2/16/2026 9:37 pm

Richmond loses to GMU in a defensive dominated game. A GMU 9 point run at the beginning of Q3 proved to be the difference. Richmond blew out GMU at the beginning of Q3 in their home game, The loss drops Richmond into a 2-way tie for 2nd place with GMU - but they must face Rhode Island a 2nd time - while GMU does not.

GWU will need an all-around complete game to win this. Low scoring; great D, controlling rebounding and preventing second shots and hitting any easy shots.

Another reason to hate the A-10's unbalanced  scheduling!!!

GW Men's Hoops » Early season ticket renewals » 2/15/2026 10:43 pm

Some programs put you on a monthly payment program starting in May and ending in March to smooth out the payments which makes season tickets more affordable for some. Then starting in November, the proportionable tickets that you have paid for are loaded into your account.

College basketball is weird now and not for the better.  No shot at a post season tournament.  No shot at winning the A-10 tournament (you don't win that without the double bye).  No reason to watch the season to see if the young guys progress (most if not all will be transferring like every other team). Not clear to me why I should invest another two hours in any game this season.

Because tickets have already been purchased and they have limited resale value!!!

ESPN box score had attendance at 1,868. Those who were there is that a false count or does it include season tix count regardless if they show? If 1,868 showed up for that game, it might be the biggest surprise of the year.

should have been part of the $5 student ticket deal

attendance - intentionally overstated =
Season ticket sales for the game plus partial season ticket packages for the game plus previous online sale (not from resellers like stub hub) plus day of walk-up sales

a more accurate measure would be based on the turnstile - but that would exclude all no shows of previously sold tickets

I have no idea how free student admissions are handled
