I have zero concerns that Caputo does not have the respect or control of his players and team. They may not all be happy with their playing time but this team is not being run by the players or outside kibitzers. Keep Maalox handy if you must, but this season is going to be a fun ride that will only get better as they go deeper into the season.

This team is a lot better than in recent years, but they still need to learn to win. Every time they got close, they fell apart.

Another good opportunity to play a good team in Delaware tomorrow.

Guess I missed yesterday’s game.

Way to go Alum1 and Hoopsfan23.  Since my moneyline was only +160, I am a bit jealous.  But still, OK.
Have been saying this since before the season started but if you like to wager, the time to make money with this team is now, while these computer rankings are unable to rapidly adjust from their underrated pre-season rankings that were based largely on so many inexperienced players joining the team. Is it still  a problem that DBJ hadn't played college ball prior to the start of the season?  Should we still be assuming that Stretch won't possibly be a factor because he played so little at Auburn? Are freshmen Trey and Jacoi just here to learn this season without really contributing?

Now to be fair, GW was at its most infuriating as well against a well coached Ohio team.  Way too many turnovers, often of the unforced variety.  Not closing nearly fast enough against open three point shooters.  Maybe playing a longer bench helps to reduce these issues, but it does seem apparent that CC is not at all inclined to go beyond 8 unless the game has all but been decided.  How else might you explain playing five players at least 34 minutes, two more 19 apiece, and Benny for 7, for the first game of three in three nights?  We've been told that James and Max are in the best condition of their careers and it showed.

What a game for Max in particular.  Early on, lackadaisical would best describe his performance.  Max fell for that play where the defender looks away from the play while running up court, only to quickly turn around and make a steal or intercept a pass in the backcourt.  Other than his consistent rebounding, Max was not giving the team much of anything.   And then down the stretch, he came up with 2 amazing steals including one where he pulled that same trick that had been pulled on him earlier.  And the 3 3's in the second OT all but won the game for GW, including the final one which he somehow managed to catch a cross court pass a

Another Power conference win for the A10. If you consider the Big East a Power conference as I do.  Ber'Nyah Mayo led St John's in scoring with 20 points.   The UMass transfer is averaging 11.6 mpg, third on the team.

West Virginia 54 (4-0), GW (3-2) 51

Green Bay (3-1) 85, UMass (1-5) 52.   The next 2 Cancun opponents for the Minutewomen are nationally ranked. Stefanie Kulesza had 11 points and 7 rebounds while Jermany Mapp scored 10.   Kristen Williams rebounded a bit from her 1 - 12 against Monmouth with 9 points on 3 - 7 shooting.  Tori Hyduke played 33 minutes, scoring 5 points (only 2 - 10 shooting.)  But she had 7 assists, 4 more than any other player on either team.  No turnovers.

Who needs to score 22 points in back-back games when you can dish out 7 assists with 0  turnovers? Yeah right! Who needs that?

GW to win 78-70.  At least according to Bleacher Nation.  Before you get too excited, they have Ricky Lindo and Brandon Adams as the key players to watch for GW.  If they have been granted special eligibility for this game, I would definitely take GW.  Ugh.

Hot Stove league trade: Lindo and Adams for Stretch, Johnson, Autrey, Buchanan and Hutchison. Any bets on who says no and who can’t say yes fast enough?

Former GW baller Lincoln Ball and his American Eagles are currently beating Georgetown 57-47 with 8:14 left in the second half. I don’t really care about playing or not playing the Hoyas but it would be nice if there was a city holiday tournament

They were never the Lady Colonials. They are not now the Lady Revs. They are the Revolutionaries. The Buff and Blue. Or colloquially, the Revs (though copyright rules apparently require GW included in any Revs logo). Same school, same name as the men’s team.

Got to be the first prognostication that identifies the need for Laziz to step it up for GW to find success. Can’t wait for the early part of the season to be over so these forecasts can be based a little more on the realities of play this season.

No idea what the terms are but the school has clearly done its part in recognizing what a gem Caputo is and the commitment required to try to keep him in Foggy Bottom. Now it’s time for the fan base to step up and do its part to achieve the consistently successful program that everyone claims to want. Buying season tickets is nice. Joining the President’s Club and participating in the Buff and Blue Challenge is a step beyond. Writing enthusiastic and positive, or at least constructive, posts helps. Returning the Smith Center to the intimidating venue it once was is essential. Students certainly did their part in the opener. Fans on the opposite side of the court may not be inclined to bring that same energy to the games for 40 minutes but they can compensate by bringing their checkbooks.

Caputo has been very open about the need for increased financial support for his program. NIL is part of the current landscape but he recognizes that not everyone is on-board with that approach. The 1732 Circle is the school’s latest fundraising effort but not everyone is in a position to contribute at that level. The school finally appears to be going forward with plans for the practice facility but that too may be a financial commitment out of reach for most here. But everyone is in a position to reevaluate how much they give to support basketball (and other sports) at GW. For those looking for progress and commitment from the team and the athletic department, we’re seeing that. It’s not all on Caputo and his staff and players. It’s not all on Granberg, Vogel and Montgomery. It’s on us to match their efforts in supporting a winning program. Won’t always be like Stonehill but hard not to believe that that wasn’t a glimpse of what can and will be. Just takes the money to support and sustain it. And that comes from us.

The bandwagon for the coming year has plenty of empty seats. I’ll be happy to move over to make room for those of you afflicted with the dreaded GW history low expectation disease. Caputo plus so much more talent than we’ve seen in a long time. Assuming the walking wounded are available, won’t need rose-colored glasses to review Monday’s game.

New floor design has big GW over District map with the Capitol, White House, and a tall Washington Monument followed by small flags in the middle starting from end line facing season ticket sections and stretching from  each of the FT lines. New seats are padded though the last rows have significantly less leg room. Not sure how much room there is for taller people in the lower rows though it’s fine for me at 5’9” vertical. Huge difference is railing preventing access to floor similar to railing that already existed on student side.

After seeing what St. Joe’s did to kill their previously immortal Hawk and what Davidson did to “refresh” their logo (a la GW’s infamous font change modernization), we shouldn’t be quite so upset about becoming the Revolutionaries. Based on attending this weekend’s volleyball matches, fans easily cheer “Let’s go Revs” as well as old standby, “Let’s go G-Dub” (with or without the associated clap). Even the PA guy saying “George Washington Revolutionaries” didn’t sound as weird as I expected. As for clothing, I was surprised how many of my volleyball shirts had Colonials on them though I did find one without for each game. Had no desire for an F-U choice to register displeasure over the moniker change. Time to move on.

I’m here following in social media. Team had 2 games scheduled and both were played in Italy. This is much more of a bonding see the world trip than those old-fashioned bunch of games as a head start on the season. Seems to be what teams do now. Nothing to see except the historic and picturesque sites/sights.
