Buckle down on defense, feed the ball inside, get to the foul line. They may overplay the three point defense in the second half, Castro should punish that. Let's get our of here with a win. Fundamentals.

Not sure what happened to the defensive intensity we had before the tournament, need to get that back. Thought the defense wasn't too bad for much of the game, Murray state just kept hitting some crazy shots and was ~65% from mid range, many of them were closely contested.

I usually like to stay as positive as possible. This game is making that very difficult, there really isn't a positive to take away from this. I thought we started off pretty strong with some very active defense and decent offense. Then all of a sudden we just could not score?! The quite frankly horrific decision-making all around did not help this, I'm not sure how many times we tried to force passes for no good reason that either got picked off or ended up in the bleachers. I'm very concerned the only reason we were even in the game was Gerald making ~4 circus shots. At times the offense looked lost, with the entire team standing still behind the three-point line while someone plays 1v1. I don't really know much about basketball tactics so this is my uninformed opinion but I can't fathom why we were not working the ball inside to Jun and Castro more and instead settled for contested threes from players who are shooting ~20% from behind the arc, especially when we were up by ten and just needed to burn clock and get some easy points.
I don't like to overreact much to one game because if we win on Saturday this will all be forgotten, but there are serious issues here and we had 9 days to prepare. I was very disappointed and my patience for showing improvement is starting to run thin

Not sure about NET but there a few key points I'd like to see this year and next:
24-25: Above .500, Kenpom above 150, win 1 A-10 tournament game (not including play-in round)
25-26: 20 wins, Kenpom around 100, top 6 in A-10, win 2 A-10 tournament games (I don't think this has been done in over a decade)
Progress isnt linear but I think if we can somehow keep the young core together and add a few pieces as needed each year these are reasonable goals. The biggest thing for me is winning some games in the tournament, since I started following the team my freshman year in 2019 I have only bad memories of the tournament with the only win coming in what was possibly one of the worst basketball games I've ever seen when we played Fordham in the play-in game of the COVID season. I most notably remember getting embarrassed by Umass after they fired McCall then preceded to drop nearly 100 on us when we were playing what was effectively a home game at Capital One. I was out on Jamion after that.

I still like to see who's in the mix even if the majority of these players don't end up here. Not sure why anyone would think anything is remotely solid when we are listed alongside 25 other schools.

I always find it funny when people just make an account and start posting when the team is doing bad. Do you even like the team or are you just secretly hoping they lose so you can get angry about it?
| GW Men's Hoops » Smith Center Discussion + Renovations » 1/01/2024 12:55 pm |
Article in wahington business journal today about filings for this new facility. Construction begins in October 2024 and ends in August 2025.
Got around the paywall here is the content of the article:George Washington University has filed plans to decommission the Charles E. Smith Center pool and replace it with a new double-height practice facility for its men’s and women’s basketball teams.
The project, designed by DLR Group, is expected to increase the Smith Center’s gross floor area by 1,485 net square feet, per the application. It will appear from G Street NW as a nine-foot-deep bumpout that generally resembles the existing facade, but with improvements inside and out including insulated glazing, a new high-efficiency HVAC system and LED lighting.
More importantly, GWU writes in its application, the practice facility will “allow the University to remain competitive with its peers” — Georgetown University was approved for similar facilities some 16 years ago — while bringing an end to the existing game of musical chairs across the Foggy Bottom campus that takes place during conflicting events.
“When there are conflicts, practice for the basketball programs is displaced to the Lerner Health and Wellness Center’s courts, which in turns displaces use of those facilities by other members of the University population,” per the application. The bumpout for the new Smith Center practice court will appear like the rest of the facade. The Lerner Health and Wellness Center at 2301 G St. NW serves the general university population but also as a backup for intercollegiate athletics when the Smith Center is unavailable.
The 5,000-seat Smith Center, 600 22nd St. NW, was constructed in the mid-1970s and renovated in 2011. It is the primar
