Love the PR spin on this - "largest corporate sponsorship in GW Athletics history".
It's the only corporate sponsorship in GW Athletics history!
Can't imagine GW will be publishing the $ any time soon.

Here we go again - except much earlier this year - our saviour is here, we beat out Duke, Kansas and Kentucky for him, will be a top 5 A-10 team this coming season, yatta yatta yatta.
There's a reason we have to take the court and play the game. Same few spouting this nonsense said this past year we were best on paper since the debacle of 2016. Lets hope CC figures out how to coach and can turn all this great talent we have and will get into wins on the court against good teams!

Thanks LSF for enlightening me and reminding us all we are as strong as we were in 2016 when we won the NIT, beat several P5 teams and had a bright future with great recruits to supplement Tyler and Yuta for the upcoming season.
Lock CC in for another 5 years before the top teams get him!

I agree JF.
Just 10-12 years ago, we were top 50 and even received votes in the top 25 rankings. Teams are much better today! I hope the administration is taking note and extending CC until 2035 before the biggies come sweeping in (at least we don't have to worry about UNC anymore). Can't wait to see the cupcakes we are going to feast on this Fall in order to get below 90 for the 1st time in over a decade!

Depends on how you define midmajor/lowmajor. I'm using the example of Army (is Patriot League low major, mid major?). Worked out for us when they came Smith C in 2024-2025 and we played there in 2025-2026.
Several non-P5 conference teams are better ranked than us in the Kenpom and NET - Big South, MAC, Ivy, MVC, MWC, Southland, CAA, etc. I guess it depends how you define those conferences, mid-major or low-major?
The point is I would rather play a Towson, American, UMBC, Vermont, Deleware than D-3 St Mary's or Bowie State to fill in our schedule.
I think you overestimate our reputation with the "bigger" schools. No teams in the last 8 years or so have been concerned about losing to us at home, regardless of whether or not we are Q2, Q3 or Q4.
I do agree with you about neutral site games/tournaments.

Any known OOC games yet? (based on previous agreements).
Wishfully hoping for a more competitive OOC schedule to better prepare us for conference play (and stop all the bid talk after we start 5-0 against D-2 and 3 teams).
I don't buy the argument that nobody will play us. We don't have the luxury of requiring a home game against P-5 teams so pack the bags and go play them on their court!
Mid-majors and low-majors will agree to a home and away series so lock it down. GW is and has been a middle of the road "mid-major" for the last decade now.
In the next couple of months we will see how the athletic dept and coaching staff approach next season in terms of scheduling philosophy.

Always amazes me how accurate (on average) these rankings can get (especially the Vegas point spread on each game).
We didn't end at 81 (86) but GTown fans have to be happy about outranking us by 1 (85)!

Mike K, don't trust his numbers.
KenPom is currently at 86, NET at 91.
Numbers could still slightly adjust until all games are played.
Fact that we are under 100 in a long time is hardly anything to get excited about.

CC himself would agree he needs to be held accountable. He will quickly get over this season (like the previous 3) courtesy of the non-deserving extension. Things aren't going to change for the next few years.

CC just finished his 4th year and has 3 more to go (I believe?) with his extension.

I can't say he accomplished much. Nice guy but you can say the same thing about all our previous coaches (nobody more so than Mojo!).

The few die hard fans we have are getting up there in age, myself included. I'm not very excited about the near future as we enter our 2nd decade of futility.

Maybe this is what it's become - be happy with mediocrity. Sure seems that's how the administration feels.

Good catch GW0509.
I remember watching us win the Rainbow Classic Tourney on Christmas Day on national TV with several classmates at a bar in GTown. Finals were against a very good Wichita State team with a few future NBA players.
I was actually at the Wooden Classic in OC Cali when we went 2-1, beating a good and well coached Creighton team for 3rd place at the Pond in Anaheim.
I miss those days when we were competitive and relevant!

Mayhem,

The nail biter with Hofstra in the 1st game of the 2016 NIT ended up being our closest game. Hofstra was well coached and came ready to play as I recall. We seemed to get the butterfly's out of our system and rolled through the remaining 4 games after that.

Interesting to look back at the various opinions of CC prior to year 4.
Since CC is with us another 2 years, not sure that he will suddenly "change" over night as we enter our second decade of men's basketball misery here at GW. I do like the idea some here have given about bringing on a seasoned former head coach to help him out.
I still believe we need to change our scheduling philosophy and get away from the cupcake pre-conference schedule. Get the mentality of "we will go anywhere and play anyone" to get us ready for the A-10 schedule. And stop playing D-1 and D-2 schools.
I'm not really hopeful anything will change with our program after the last 10 years based on our administration's prior bad decisions, lack of money and lack of student interest but never say never.

Free Quebec and company are absolutely right! It's the ref's fault. We should be 24-2 right now instead of 14-12 (Sorry, like the NET, I refuse to count wins against a crummy D-3 program). Why are the ref's only screwing us at GW and not the other 300+ D-1 programs? We want the ref's who did the home Rhode Island game for all our remaining games (Don't listen to those whiny RI fans who say they got screwed in their 5 point loss to us because of the "home team calls".

Enough of the "moral victories" we keep hearing about - tough to win at GW and Dayton but we kept it close, etc.

CC has had 4 years to get it done and should be held to the same standard as every other coach before him.

Maybe the deep pocketed Dude can come up with the money to buy him out of his premature extension and contribute towards hiring away the Fordham coach.

We have been under achieving for the last decade and are entering our second decade in no better position, having just re-upped a 4th year coach who is batting under .500 in conference play.
I would give anything right now to even get mentioned for a possible NIT bid.
What are we doing about the rest of this season and beyond?
Let's start with Rhode Island. Patricio, Joe and Yuta arent coming back to resurrect this program. CC has to do it.

Agree with you Rising on most of what you said except for "it's not coaching".
CC has to take some responsibility. This is his 4th season and these are all "his guys". Therefore, bring in guys who can get the job done and make the adjustments when necessary.
Still 8 games left to turn this ship around.

Free Quebec, please stop with the constant whining about the refs. It's during every away game and some of the home games too. Like injuries, every team is impacted.

Agree, very well said Mayhem.
The main issue I have is not with CC but the continuous bad decisions by the AD and President. CC was extended to 2028-2029 after last season. After 3 years as coach (now 3 1/2) he remains under .500 in conference play. As Goodman wrote after the extension was announced, "he just had a 21 win season".

Everyone in the GW community knows we have a cupcake out of conference schedule for years now. I was not a fan of extending anybody after 3 years of under .500 with an extension when his contract had another 2 years to go. Not sure what the rush was. He wasn't going anywhere with his 3 year track record here (I remember a few on this site were convinced he was going to Miami to replace Larranaga recently!)

I don't blame CC. I certainly would have jumped on the opportunity. I just hope we aren't still complaining about these constant bad decisions going into our 2nd decade of misery after this season. I will be the 1st to jump up and down if CC can somehow turn this thing around and we end up in the top half of what is turning out to be a weak year for the A-10 Conference.
