Nice article today.  Not sure if it is a reprint from 2016 or a new article, but I hadn't seen this one before.

So what would be the equivalent school for GW to visit?  Hofstra?

Good question!  I have no idea, but it would seem that is one of the reasons GW likely loved having the A-10 tournament in Atlantic City and later in New York!

That's a great article; couldn't ask for anything more positive than that!

I agree with GW18 about this being a possible 2 for 1 series with Virginia Tech. Virginia Tech could be in for a long rebuild, so I don't think they can view any opponent as a "punching bag" to build confidence. If it is a 2 for 1 deal, it seems like the only BCS teams who will agree to play GW are the ones who are struggling and see the 1 trip to D.C. as a great recruiting opportunity. DePaul, Rutgers, Seton Hall and Penn State were all struggling or rebuilding in a similar way to Virginia Tech is right now, when they agreed to play GW. Virginia and South Carolina were not.

Thomas, Virginia Tech is a special case.  It's not so much about recruiting, but rather about their alumni.  I worked as Director of Special Events at Virginia Tech (under the Development division umbrella) and my roincluded creating events for alumni and donor engagement.  There is a huge base of Hokie alumni in the DMV, I believe greater than any other location.  The alumni association chapter is very strong.  My first event with VT was a party for about 1000 alumni and other donors at Fed Ex Field when Tech was playing USC in the college football kickoff event.  It was no accident that event was here in DC.

I would be shocked if this were not at least a 2 for 1, but I could see this being good for both schools even as a one for one.

Absolutely.  As long as the topic doesn't create a debate why this person sucks and that person blows.

Gentlemen, I'm not saying it shouldn't be discussed...just trying to keep the posts relevant to the topic.  Maybe it's just me, but I tend to stop paying attention when a topic goes astray.

Gentlemen, this is all well and good, but we've gotten way off-topic.  Please have the philosophical debate about away from the thread about transfers.  Respectfully, thanks.

Not a big follower of VCU this year, but hadn't he already announced he was testing the NBA but retaining his eligibility?  Does this change that decision? Assuming he's thinking that if he doesn't get drafted he can transfer to a Power Five and play right away with the transfer waiver likely to pass.  Actually, seems like a smart move on his part.

Does anyone know the source of the information that has caused Amir Harris to be listed as a medical redshirt for next season?

I am a bit confused about Amir's health.  I know there have been a lot of references to it, but is there anything official about what the injury was?

Folks, I've been asked to post the link to the A-10 scholarship and roster spreadsheet that someone (I have no clue who) created years and years ago.  It's actually available in the GW Hoops Links folder, but I've attached a link here to that folder.

What an enigmatic career this young man has already had.  Because he redshirt during his freshman year due to a broken bone in his foot, he received a waiver and did not have to sit out another year when transferring from Syracuse to Vandy.  And he of course can play right away as a graduate transfer.  I can't imagine there have been too many players who have played for four different coaches at three different schools over four consecutive years.  That has to be a very short list.

The comp sounds a lot like Bo Ziegler.  High energy, high athleticism.  Similar size.  As a freshman, Moyer played 36 minutes as a starter against UCONN, scoring 18 points on 7-9 shooting while grabbing 8 rebounds.  On another occasion that season, he scored 11 points and grabbed 13 rebounds against Virginia Tech.  So, we know he has it in him.

The knock on him is that his confidence was often lacking.  One writer noted that you knew which version of Matt was showing up by the first media timeout.

He undoubtedly had lots of frontcourt competition at Syracuse and Vandy.  With AT and Mezie departing and Noel Brown perhaps being a bit of a project in Year 1, this represents an excellent opportunity for a confident Matt Moyer to show up each game.  If he is secure in his role, this has the chance to be an outstanding pickup.  If he is used similarly to say how AT was used this past season, this has the chance to blow up.

On the whole, I think you have to ignore the paltry numbers and instead feel excited over what he can bring to this team at the A10 level.  Welcome aboard Matt.
