Addition to the staff

Looks like a nice addition to the staff. Definitely some close ties to the DMV recruiting circles

Re: Addition to the staff

Like his background a lot. Someone who worked his way up, comes from here and is presumably familiar with GW history. And comes from Miami, a higher-level school. We need more of that, even in finding recruits at our level. And especially with our transfer down philosophy.
Seems like a really solid guy, whose academic achievements are also a good examples for players and recruits. Welcome Lamont and family to our GW family!

Re: Addition to the staff

Reminds me a bit of when Steve Pikiell left GW to take the Stony Brook job and Phil Rowe, an experienced basketball coach, replaced him for a season to help a less experienced KH with in-game decisions.  Am not sure how much in-game advice Lamont will be allowed to provide (as a special assistant and not an Assistant Coach) but the similarity here is that JC is bringing in a more experienced voice who he should have no problems trusting implicitly.  Welcome back to DC Lamont.

Re: Addition to the staff

Welcome to GW Lamont.

Looks like a quality addition, and happy to see there is money in the budget for another staff member.

Would love to know the ins and outs of hiring Lamont, in regards to needing or wanting another staff member, how much convincing was needed of the hire-ups to permit the hiring, and if there was money in the budget or was money "found" because improving the hoops program is more of a priority now.

Re: Addition to the staff

One would think the Miami background helped in that regard.
Not sure how the whole Miami thing played out for GW as whole and there may be some, shall we say, less than positive examples. But it may have helped us on this one.

This is basically the Austin Kelley role right?  Not sure how much coaching, if any, he's allowed to do, but we can always use another source to help us find kids who can help us get back to the top half of the A-10.

Re: Addition to the staff

GW0509, my guess is that he will not be allowed to do any in-game coaching or perform any active in-person recruiting, but as you say, he can help identify prospects as well as be a sounding board to JC while watching film, etc.
