Re: Other Games Thread

Man, Memphis fans must feel about their team like we feel about ours.  For all the talent on that team they really stink playing together.

Re: Other Games Thread

UCONN may have lost that Ollie ruling, but they won big with Hurley who has turned the program around.

Ranked in the top 25, they pounded Butler by 20 at Hinkle tonight.

Re: Other Games Thread

UMASS defeating St. Louis, even at home, raises my eyebrows.

And, back to Wednesday night, 13 1/2 point dog Marquette 57   #11 Villanova 54.

I must have missed The Dude's write-up about that one.

83 down, 17 to go.  Reminiscent of his years at Indiana

5-13, #228 KenPom, yikes.  Its funny how Penny gets so much bad press, Memphis has the #54 KenPom.  Imagine what 228 looks like at a power program

Florida St beats Duke!

Which Coach has the record for most wins over a ranked opponent, while unranked?

55 wins, Leonard Hamilton, America's most underappreciated Coach

"America's most underappreciated coach" has the same number of national championships as "America's greatest coach". These times are very strange indeed lol.

Re: Other Games Thread

GW0509,  Penny Hardaway has had enough of the criticism, he started cursing to a reporter during the post-game press conference after a bad home loss to SMU. I'm a big fan of Penny Hardaway because of his NBA career but he seemed to be making EXCUSES to me!!  Also, Memphis fans are probably angrier than GW fans because they had Final 4/National Championship expectations of their team, and they may have trouble qualifying for the NIT at this point! The link to Penny's F-bomb tirade against the reporter is right below

I'm shocked that Kevin Ollie was able to beat UConn in court like that! Most times, the University is able to put out whatever about the fired and/or disgraced coach and the coach just goes away quietly!!

St.Bonaventure at Duquesne  7  ESPN2

#17 Illinois a Maryland   7  FS1  - Maryland is now 1-6 in the Big 10 and hosts an Illinois team that is playing very well. At least they know a new coach will be coming in next year which should bring some optimism no matter how bad this season may turn out.

Re: Other Games Thread

That was a big win for Maryland(even though Illinois star Kofi Cockburn was out) because after the 2nd half collapse against Rutgers followed by the blowout loss to Michigan, it looked as if Maryland was very close to giving up on the season. Illinois is still a solid team without Cockburn.

St.Joe's at VCU                2:30   USA

Dayton at George Mason  7  MASN  - you could say this is a must-win for George Mason because they probably penciled the GW game as an easy win, but they collapsed in the final minutes against GW, and a loss to Dayton may damage their confidence going forward.

Rutgers at Minnesota just tipped off on the Big 10 Network, Minnesota is 1-5 in the Big 10 after the great start. The Big 10 is just so strong from top to bottom that it's easy too go on a 4 or 5 game losing streak if you aren't playing at a high level

Villanova at Georgetown just tipped off on Fox. Georgetown is a big underdog AGAIN today. They put up a decent effort against Providence in their last game, but it looks as if it will be very hard for them to win games in the Big East.

Georgetown's going to have to move on from Ewing like they did with JTIII.  Once they finally shed the Thompson influence they can become players again in the DMV.

Nima's other New Zealand recruit Zach Riley makes his debut for Fordham today.  Will be somewhat interested in watching his career going forward.

Re: Other Games Thread

GW0509,  unfortunately, it may have taken the death of John Thompson Jr. for Georgetown to shed itself of the "Thompson Influence." I believe John Thompson Jr. retired around 1999, and in the 20+ years since then all of their head coaches have been guys directly tied to him.

Richmond at Rhode Island   6:30 CBS SportsNetwork

Georgetown at #20 UConn  8:30 CBS SportsNetwork - it's the same old story as Georgetown is a big underdog(15 or 16 pts) again in this game. Georgetown got one of their leading scorers back for the Villanova game and actually played very well until Villanova took over in the final minutes to win by 11.

Re: Other Games Thread

Richmond comes back after being down by 15 to beat URI at home. Sound familiar?

URI finishes the game by scoring 1 point in the final 5:30 of the game

Where is the "sad trombone" emoji? On the plus side, one of URI´s scorer´s table ad sponsors is an oyster bar. That is probably pretty unique for college basketball.

Re: Other Games Thread

Rutgers beaten at home by Maryland by 8 - sounds much closer than it actually was.
The Rutgers AD is losing patience with the GW dynamic duo of Pikiell and Hobbs.
He made a great hire with Willard at Seton Hall before he came over to Rutgers. Pikiell was his 3rd choice (after Hurley and Lonergan). He has done a great job of upgrading the facilities, the football team is on an upward trajectory and now he can focus on basketball. Wouldn't be surprised if he steals Willard away from Seton Hall in the next couple years.

Re: Other Games Thread

Georgetown got blown out again last night.

Also, congrats to DeMatha’s own Mike Pegues on becoming the interim HC at Louisville after the departure of Chris Mack.

Joel -  Rutgers is fine with Steve and Karl. Probably the most successful Rutgers coach in modern history (last 40 years) given the league and the competition. Last year, Rutgers gave Steve an extension through 2025-26 with a $20 million guarantee. Steve isn't leaving anytime soon unless he kills it and gets an even bigger job.
