Re: GW BEATS UMASS Game Thread

I think the Jun situation is simple. His Offensive rating is 104.5.  Kind of average.

Castros offensive efficiency rating is 127.7. (7th best in the nation among players who use at least 20% of their team’s possessions).

At some point, the coaching staff realized that the offense would be more efficient if it was built around Castro than Jun, thus Jun’s role has changed.

Re: GW BEATS UMASS Game Thread

It's enjoyable to watch this team.

A win like this provides good film, fun and morale boost at a key time. I loved when Jun hugged Jacob after a winning play. Having said that, I would have been just as happy with a tighter game that had Daniel Rivera playing more than 17 minutes. I think THAT win tells more about how this team is adjusting Jun's role against tougher competition and improving in general. Good problem to have..good seasons have good luck and we need some.

I hope Jun works on his Hansen Hook and a mid range shot in the off-season. I wonder if having Bishop and Garrett on perimeter last year helped Jun on the interior? Would a team with Autry, Johnson, Jacoi/Jones(generally good delivery), give Jun more space to operate? My own answer is "not consistently". The talent in the A10 will require Jun to add to his arsenal to score against longer and athletic teams.

Yes, Jun's role has changed, but to what exactly?  An afterthought?  This was the guy who was invited to an NBA symposium last offseason.  (Not saying he was destined for the NBA but his invitation has to mean something.)  This was the guy you built a formidable NIL package around.

Am not suggesting that the offense should have continued to flow through Jun all of the time, but not at all?  Why not run sets where Jun starts with the ball some of the time and lines up along the baseline other times?

Good point by Fly that better outside shooting would have made for a stronger case for Jun driving and dishing to open teammates.

Watch some of the highlights from last year and it's pretty clear he's not as good at driving and most importantly *finishing* at the rim this year.  I think Fly's theory is better than just being in some sort of "funk."
