All A10 Team/ POY

Castro has to be a lock to make a team, 1st team all league Center? 2nd?

Other GW candidates? All Rookies?

Predictions for A10 1st Team? POY?  Coach of The Year??

Re: All A10 Team/ POY

I think Castro should be 1st team All-A10 but am confident he'll get bumped for Avilla.

COTY has to be Tony Skinn. Does Christian Jones qualify for the all-rookie team? If so he should be on there.

Re: All A10 Team/ POY

I think Castro is looking at 2nd team.

Shulga, Jalen Haynes, Avila, Reynolds seem like locks.  Two out of Santos, Joe Bam, and Sebastian thomas make the first team, while one gets snubbed - and that’s if Maddox doesn’t sneak as the leading scorer in George Mason.

So despite how great  Castro had been, I would imagine that’s 8 guys likely ahead of him.

Then, besides Castro,  you have Diggins, who despite us shutting him down, is averaging around 17 (and I think more in conf play).  Reed Bailey leads the league in scoring. Rasheed Fleming is a legit NBA prospect and 2nd to Castro in rebounding, while scoring over 15 a game.

So on the second team, it’ll likely be 2 guys out of those first 8 and then 3 out of the next 4 guys making the second team.

So most likely 1 player out of Castro, Bailey, Diggins, and Fleming (or Maddox) likely gets snubbed and put on the third team.  I don’t think that’s Castro, but you never know with voters since we don’t get a ton of attention. Finishing strong would probably help.

Fwiw, if I had a vote, I probably snub Bailey to third team out of those players mainly because of where Davidson is in the standings (see Bishop, James leading the league in scoring but being third team, iirc). But that’s tough because Bailey prob gets some first team votes.

Re: All A10 Team/ POY

Castro as second team all-Conference.  If Jones qualifies, second team all-Rookie.  Can't see any others with a legitimate shot.

How would Jones not be first team all rookie?  What 5 players would you have ahead of him?

And which of the 12 players I listed would you bump
to third team to get Castro on the 2nd (I agree he should be 2nd, but someone is getting snubbed).

Re: All A10 Team/ POY

FQ, well, you're in luck because the A10 puts 6 players on it's all conference teams.  So, you're fine if the 12 you mentioned are the 12 selected for first or second team.  However, there are a few guys you did not mention who could make second team.  Des Watson of Loyola.actually made al A10 second team last year.  Gibson Jimerson is in line for a lifetime achievement award.  Corey McKeithan is a likely 3rd teamer but has had a great season.  Same for Fordham's Jackie Johnson. and SBU's Melvin Council.

I will go along with your first 4 locks on the first team and most definitely name Sebastian Thomas to the first team as well.  I would take Joe Bam or Maddox ahead of Santos, and would also consider Fleming here if St. Joe's earns a double bye.  I believe Slim is solidly in on the second team.

Re: All A10 Team/ POY

Castro is not a lock for first or second team Dude. Probably 2nd team but who knows? Jones has a strong case for all-rookie team. That's it. Skinn is virtually a lock for COY.

I was thinking it was 6 on the first, 5 on the second but you are correct.  And I completely agree about the other players (can’t believe I forgot Watson).

I would add Xzayvier Brown, Isiah Swope (though you’re right that Jimerson gets the lifetime achievement vote probably), or even Jared Billups because his defense is so good.

As for all rookie, Jones is a lock. It’s not a great year for freshmen in the league.  I believe only Deuce Jones and Chris Jones are averaging more than 5 points per game along freshman.  I’m having a hard time coming up with ANY other rookies who deserve all rookie (I guess Luke Bamgboye?) Who am I forgetting?

Re: All A10 Team/ POY

Replying to my own post.  Forgot Amael L’Etang. (Who averages 7 a game and is a lock for all rookie).

So for all rookie: Deuce Jones, Chris Jones, Amael L’Etang, I guess Luke Bamgboye… and then who gets 5th spot?

Re: All A10 Team/ POY

Jones is an All Rookie lock, agreed, Castro should be 1st team agreed there
Surely a 1st or 2nd Team Lock.  Putting together one of the better GW Center seasons in school history

So you didn’t answer my question.  If you think Castro should be first team, who gets snubbed.  Who are the other 5 on your first team and who is on 2nd to make room for Castro?

Unnecessary.  Personal attacks make this board worse.

Re: All A10 Team/ POY

Not taking a side on this, because I don’t know enough about other players in the league. But, my recollection from 20 or 30 years ago was that the All conference first team was simply the five players who received the most votes, and not necessarily the five players who led their positionsim votes.

Is anybody in the know about the process?

Watching today’s game, it sure seems like he belongs on the first team, even if it means there are two center/ forward bigs on the team.

Re: All A10 Team/ POY

You are correct. Only “wrinkle” is that the first team has usually been comprised of players from the top 5-ish teams so even though Castro has been playing like a first teamer, he may get snubbed by virtue of GW being in the 8 spot.

Castro and Jones both make it

Castro named to Two Teams

Made what Dude? Spell it out - which teams? It's ok to admit you were wrong (once again lol).

Re: All A10 Team/ POY

I’ll say that 17 days ago, I thought Castro was headed to the second team, but he finished so strongly and some other strong contenders floundered a bit down the stretch) so now I think he makes it.

My vote would be (no order on each team)

1st team:
Shulga (POY)
Joe Bam
Haynes
Castro
Fleming
Sebastian Thomas (though call on last spot)

2nd team:
Reynolds
Avila
Santos
Jimerson
Reed Bailey
Sheldon Edwards

Third team:
Jayden Dawson
Xzavier Brown (was hard not to put him on 2nd)
Darius Maddox
Diggins
Council
Swope

All defense:
Billups (DPOY)
Rubin
Agjobor
KD Johnson (coulda gone Shulga over him)
Christian Jones (prob won’t make it but his point of attack defense has changed our team and he leads league in steals %)

All-Rookie (first four were the easiest picks of anything)
Deuce Jones (ROY)
Christian Jones
l’Etang
Bamboye
Jonah Hinton if eligible (from Juco) - I guess Dasear Haskins if not.

And I don’t know if they give transfer of the year - they should since it’s such a huge factor now - but Castro should win it hands down.
