Atlantic Ten Conference Tournament.

Unless I am reading things wrong (which is always possible), if GW stays a 7 seed, which they currently are, they will play on Thursday at 5 pm against the winner of the Wednesday game between the 10 and 15 seeds (currently URI and Lasalle, but of course this is subject to change).   It is theoretically possible that 2 other teams (Duquesne and St. Bonaventure) can also finish at 9-9.  Both those  teams play  their final game on the road and will be underdogs. I have no idea what the 2 way or 3 way tiebreaker is, but GW did beat the Bonnies and lost to the Dukes.   From what I heard, seats for the Thursday sessions are unreserved and have not yet gone on sale.   If you do purchase tickets, it would be best for GW to buy your tickets through their Athletic Department rather than the arena or some other source,

Re: Atlantic Ten Conference Tournament.

I believe the tiebreaker is head-to-head if there are only two tied teams.  If there are three, it is based upon record by those three teams versus each other, and then the lowest ranked team is dropped and given the worst seed, and then the heads-up tiebreak is performed for the final two teams.  If there is still a tie, the tied teams' records versus the #1 seed are then used, then the #2 seed, etc...

If I read it correctly, we win the heads up tiebreaker vs. St. Bonaventure, lose the heads up to Duquesne, and come in 2nd of the three teams in the three-way tiebreaker.

This is my understanding.  Bonies and Dukes split two meetings with one another.  That makes Duquesne 2-1, GW 1-1, and SBU 1-2 in the tiebreaker.  Bonnies are at Davidson Saturday at 2 while the Dukes are in SLU for an 8:00 game on Saturday.  The bad news is that SLU trails Dayton, SJU and Loyola by a game in their quest for a double bye.  SLU could be locked in as the 6 seed before they tip off Saturday night.  Let's hope not.

Re: Atlantic Ten Conference Tournament.

I believe we are locked into the 7 or 8 seed all depending on what Duquesne does. They win, we are 8, and they lose, we are 7.

Re: Atlantic Ten Conference Tournament.

Correct, if Duquesne loses we are the 7 seed. If they win we are 8.

Based on the final-day matchups, I'd say URI is favored to get the 10 seed which means we'd likely face them in our first game if we get the 7 seed.

Re: Atlantic Ten Conference Tournament.

UMASS did their part by losing tonight.  So now Duquesne can’t fall to the 10 seed if they lose (Duq being the team I least wanted to play of all the possibilities).

Rhody not having a problem with Fordham so it looks like Rhody will get the 10 seed and presumably beat Fordham again Wednesday.

So that means:

- Dukes beat St Louis and we are the 8 seed playing St Bonaventure at 11:30AM Thursday.
Or
- St Louis beats the Dujes and we are the 7 seed playing Thursday at 5PM, most likely against the winner of Rhody/Fordham.

All sessions are on sale. I just bought Saturday and Sunday tickets.

Re: Atlantic Ten Conference Tournament.

I will be nervous facing either the Dukes or URI. We faced URI without Fuchs or Green so I guess I would be hoping the team has given up on Miller and wants to go home.

Re: Atlantic Ten Conference Tournament.

Robbie Avila doing everything he can to lose this game for SLU right now with his double-double consisting of 17 points and 10 TOs.

Re: Atlantic Ten Conference Tournament.

Crazy ending to regulation.  SLU down 6 with about 35 seconds left and Isaiah Swope hits a three.  Then, then tie up Dukes after the inbounds pass and have the possession arrow.  Then Swope hits another three, kind of a step back three in corner.

Duqs hold for last shot, but Dinkins, who has had a great game, airballs a contested three.

Going to OT.

Re: Atlantic Ten Conference Tournament.

That should do it! Avila comes up with a huge 3 to ice the game making up for all those TOs. We get the 7 seed and the 5pm tip (hope that means a bigger GW crowd).

Re: Atlantic Ten Conference Tournament.

SLU by 2 after a 3 at the buzzer in OT.  GW the 7 seed!  See you Thursday evening!

Re: Atlantic Ten Conference Tournament.

7th place.  Not bad.

Exceeding almost everyone’s expectations (except AT Hiker and David Korn).

Now let’s lock down the defense and beat Rhody!

Re: Atlantic Ten Conference Tournament.

If you happen to see SLU's Isaiah Swope while he's in DC, be sure to thank him.  Gibson Jimerson too.

The last A10 game played on Saturday featured Duquesne going up against St. Louis.  The Bills were already eliminated from double bye consideration and had little to play for aside from winning on Senior Night (not to belittle this) and moving up from the 6 seed to the 5 (which I would contend may not have been in their best interests).  This game had quite a bit of meaning to GW.  A Duquesne loss meant the 7 seed and an opening game against probably URI but perhaps Fordham.  A win by the Dukes meant an 8/9 matchup with St. Bonaventure.  We can debate the more favorable matchup for GW who has beaten the Bonnies three straight times as opposed to URI who routed GW in the Smith Center in between two GW victories in Kingston.  Personally, I am very happy to avoid a Mark Schmidt coached team who just seems to be due for a win against GW and who finished two games ahead of URI in the conference standings.  If we then dare to look ahead, a win gives us a 3rd chance at George Mason who we've lost in double overtime to as well as by 3 with a shot to tie that game at the buzzer.  Mason has also looked wobbly of late though one could argue that this is how they've looked all season.  Unsure as to the extent of the Haynes injury but suffice it to say that the Patriots would look like a very different team without him.  The alternative of course would have been a VCU team who I believe anyone in the A10 would want to delay playing for as long as possible.  This is one of those times where the 7 seed holds a big advantage over the 8.

As for Swope and Jimerson, I hope you got to see it.  The Dukes were up 6 with 35 seconds left in regulation.  Swope had played an awful game by his standards though he made a big bucket with 1:45 left that clearly gave him some confidence.  He then hit a 3 with 34 seconds left to cut the lead in half.  Then, SLU trapped in the backcourt and forced a jump ball (alternative possession: SLU).  Then, Swope again takes and makes a step back 3 pointer from the corner to tie the game with 27 seconds left.  That's right, Swope erased a 6 point lead in 7 seconds.  He then scores 5 of the team's 10 points in overtime to help seal the deal.  By the way, Swope had ben 0-7 from 3 before his heroics. As for Jimerson, he was not a late game hero but without his career high 35 points, this would never have been a game.  His line for the game was 14-20 from the floor, 4-8 from 3, an uncharacteristic 3-5 from the line, 8 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 steal.

So a big shout-out to SLU.  Thanks for that effort on Saturday night.

A10 Tournament preview with Tyler Cronin of the 3 Bid League Podcast: https://www.youtube.com/live/9IOoCptMc1A?si=ZY3FwtYkfJh_MjUX

We looked ahead to potential matchups for GW and talked about some storylines in the A10 as a whole. We'll have much more content the rest of the week including a show after the URI/Fordham game tomorrow with a heavy GW focus and potentially an interview with Caputo

Re: Atlantic Ten Conference Tournament.

Can’t believe URI is only a 4pt favorite over Fordham.  Seems very low..is there an injury for Rhody?

URI split two games with Fordham this year.
URI had lost 4 in a row before beating Fordham to end the regular season.
Fordham had won 3 of 4 before losing their last 8 to end the regular season.
URI is 4-9 away from home this season.  Fordham is 3-12.
The schools have split the last 10 meetings with Fordham covering 6 of these.

Hope this helped.  Am sure it hasn't.

Re: Atlantic Ten Conference Tournament.

The league didn't even put the special tournament logo at center court this year? What a disgrace. Fire Bernadette already.
