It's no secret, as has been proven by television ratings, that America loves the little guy in the first round or two but not so much in the Final 4. We are probably all biased given who we support.
As for San Antonio, I've never been so I'm in no position to judge. My guess is that what he meant was that it's a great city to visit once but perhaps with limited attractions? I suppose there's only so many times one can enjoy visiting The Alamo.
Yes as far as other attractions there are not that many in San Antonio, but if you are into basketball and the restaurant/bar scene as well as a very walkable city, its good for the Final Four for 4-5 days. Perhaps I am a bit insulated from having to find other things to do because I usually go to the NABC Convention which has all sorts of clinics and discussions/presentations about coaching basketball and that absorbs a decent amount of time. Also, Austin is only 1.5 hours away so its a quick ride up there on the off day (Sunday).

Now Austin I have been to. Great bars and food ranging from food trucks to outstanding restaurants. If these suit your interests, the art museum on UT's campus is enjoyable, and the Lyndon Johnson Museum can keep history buffs excited for days.
