How are people feeling about "The Crown" these days.

I have mixed feelings.   Yes, it was great to be invited to a post season tournament of any kind.  This shows some real progress with the program.    And it is also great to be playing in a tournament that consists mostly of high majors, even if several were sub 500 for the season.  But on the other hand, given the  lateness of the date of the tournament and its lack of national significance, along with the time that has lapsed since we played our last game,  gives the crown the feel of an exhibition game for me.   We will be a week into baseball's regular season, and I am in a Nats mode already.    I am also hating the idea that we will be playing with at least 3 players who are no longer Revs and very well may have their own agenda other than advancing GW's.   For good or bad reason, they have chosen to leave GW and are no longer representative of the school. As such, they will certainly be playing for the names on the back of their jerseys rather than the name on the front.   I just cannot get excited for these 3 any longer.    Play only the kids who have chosen to stay or stayed long enough to end their eligibility as a Rev.    I would wish the others good luck, but their time here has ended and they should now move on.

Agree with many of your sentiments LSF. The great portal reshuffle has begun for all schools. It wasn't that long ago that a great sigh of relief took place when Bishop decided to stay. This was followed by criticism of his iso hero ball being the whole offense and many were frustrated for 2 seasons. For every door that closes another opens.
I'm a fan of the game and can enjoy a D2/3 playoff game.
I'll be rooting for the Revs no matter how this tournament or the portal pans out.  Until this season is officially over, these guys have bonded over the course of many months and seem to have good chemistry.  What better place to have a final team buffet than the MGM.  Once they land back in DC I think the roster will build back quickly and a whole new set of emotions and surprises will set in as the departing pack their bags and books and set out for ?greener pastures? and new and different talent arrives.

With respect to the Crown specifically, I think it remains to be seen whether it will continue to be played so late after conference tournaments or if it's moved to directly compete with the NIT.  I could see the latter happening next year, especially with the NIT basically becoming the mid-major tournament.  The Crown feels more like a Christmas Bowl game, and it wouldn't surprise me to see a similar level of effort from a lot of the teams involved.

With respect to post-season tournaments generally, I think they are now just book ends on the season as opposed to potentially being used to build for next season. Kids these days don't feel any ill will towards the portalers, in fact it's quite the contrary, so I don't think it should impact how the team plays in Vegas.    Obviously, we as fans are allowed to feel differently and can root harder for the ones who for now are sticking around.

For me the Crown is an all too rare opportunity to play a quality opponent in Boise State, nothing more and nothing less. My understanding is that Boise State was in the "First Four Out" category for the NCAA Tournament. If you consider that the 6 SEC teams with losing conference records had no business in the NCAA Tournament (they went 1-5 in Round 1), Boise State is basically an NCAA Tournament caliber team. Also, they are ranked higher than any team we played this season except for VCU. I do not expect us to win, but the experience of playing them will be good for all of our returning players, imho.
