Officially it was listed as a sell out and the Smith was pretty packed especially the student section which looked a lot like the 1990s
The announced attendance was 4200+ though and the venue has had crowds of over 5000 in the past. Think we get even more in the house this year

Game now officially a sell-out. Gee, you might get the impression that it would be Box Office Boffo to make this a regular season game. I wonder if those chickeshits at the Evil Empire understand that?

They understand that if we are ever to play a regular season game it will always be a Georgetown home game and they will control all the revenue. Same as it always was.

Just between you and me, I hope they get infected with a strain of something that over the years has developed a resistance to penicillin.

There's an actual game in less than 48 hours and since I don't know whether it is or is not in DMVPiranha's contract to prepare exhibition game previews, I thought I'd get the ball rolling. Someone put together their top 250 transfers for the upcoming season and while we have two names on this list (Terrance in about the 180's and Omari in around the 220's), the Hoyas have three players in the top 103. The most highly regarded is Jaland Lowe, a 6' 2" guard transferring in from Kentucky. His season ended prematurely due to shoulder surgery but he was at Pitt the prior two seasons where as a sophomore, he averaged 16.8 points, 4.2 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 1.8 steals while starting every game he appeared in. Next up is Vyctorius Miller, a 6' 5" transfer from Oklahoma State where he started 26 of the 32 games he appeared in, averaging 10.8 points per game. This will be three schools in three years for Vyctorius having begun his career at LSU. The third is Josiah Parker, the reigning AAC freshman of the year while playing at Florida Atlantic. He's a 6' 7", 234 pound forward who had 15 double-doubles, averaging 9.6 points and 6 rebounds in just 21.2 minutes of action per game.
The Hoyas also have some returnees including 7' 1" (of course they have a 7 footer) Vince Iwuchukwu who had stops at USC and St. Johns before joining Gtown last season. His numbers were fairly modest (11.6 points, 6.1 rebounds) but he also battled through injuries last year, missing 10 games. Caleb Williams is a memorable name not just for the obvious reasons but also because he torched GW from 3 during last year's exhibition, a shooting night that was likely not replicated during the season.
Fortunately, Jeremiah Williams, the guy who seemingly wanted to fight every GW player who looked his way last year, has departed. However, there will be one more familiar looking face on the Georgetown bench (or near it) as Greg Collucci has joined Ed Cooley's staff as General Manager.

For any of you that are interested, the Wake Forest site has the box score from their exhibition game against Georgetown. Hopefully our length will have an impact on their 3-point %.

Box score if funky with some players listed multiple times.
Last year, outside shooting was Georgetown’s weakness. They best because A) they had an unusually hot outside shooting day: and B) we were overhyped at the start and it took us several minutes to settle down.
One of the guys who torched us last year was Kayvaughn Mulready. He was 4-7 vs us, and I see he hit 5 threes (5-9 iirc). He might be their Sam Anyan - guy who excels in the preseason.
Still, I think they will be improved this year. They also brought in Elmarko Jackson from Kansas. If their shooting is good, they are going to be a tough out.
Will be especially tough for us since our guys have never played together.

Could have sworn we played Temple last Saturday.

Can that be considered a real game, though? Did they even keep score?

Early thoughts at the first commercial break:
Guard play is there and aggressive attacking the perimeter but then hesitant when they get to the paint.
Gotta hit those open threes.
That was a long stretch without a stop to start the game, fitness will need to improve.
I REALLY hate our neighbors.

That sequence at the 10 min mark of the 1st screamed "preseason" by both teams. Please make this a regular season event when teams have worked out their early rust, the fans deserve to see these teams go at each other in mid-season form.

Am I the only one who watches James and thinks of BuBu Benjamin?

Halftime thoughts:
Rebounding is good but footwork on defense needs to be worked on (exhibit #1 the move that led to the thankfully missed dunk at the end of the half).
Picks are being set well, but guys need to go off them faster.
This game is producing good film the coaches can use to show players where they need to make better use of space/decisions. Which is exactly what an exhibition is for (and hard to get from a game against a DIII punching bag that does not present much of a challenge).
Once the threes started falling, the offense looked much better.
What a cheap technical, I would have much preferred getting a T by dropping the gloves and landing a couple of haymakers (especially against this opposing team) than seeing something so banal get penalized
Pops in the commentary seat was wonderful. Too bad he already has a job because he could do that for a living.

I was at the scrimmage last week and James is a LOT better than Bubu…
Interesting how much of a leash Caputo is giving the freshman. He’s obviously really talented but those turnovers are killing us…

Someone could tell Kerr and Pastos that their mics are open during the commercial breaks (at least on my ESPN+ feed), but the conversation is so hillarious I hope no one does.

It is October. With enough practice, experience and film study those turnovers will be down by half in December.

Yeah, and he can definitely score! I love a player his size driving to the rim.
Need our outside shooters to step up to get back in to this thing…

I really like Urbiha. He’s really patient and mature for a “college” player..
