Yes, had a tough time sleeping last night after I received the news yesterday afternoon. Since I met Steve over 25 years ago, he has positively been one of the best people I know in college basketball. I am not going to cite rhyme and verse of all the ways he really is a special human being because I hope that he will have a lot more time on Earth and defeat this terrible disease. But suffice it to say most of it has nothing to do with him being a basketball coach.
I have stayed in touch with him over the years. This news was very unexpected and apparently no one outside his family and very close friends knew much until the letter.
Virtually no one deserves this disease, let alone Steve. I am sure he will fight it with everything he has. I am praying for him and his family right now in hopes he has a great outcome. It is all the rest of us can really do.

Really tough news. It doesn't matter who you are or how much success you've enjoyed...if you don't have your health, the rest is inconsequential. Wishing Coach Pikiell a complete and speedy recovery.
