Darin Green Jr

I’m not sure if this has ever been mentioned on this site or the old one, but Collin Smith’s teammate, Darin Green Jr is the son of one of my favorite 90s Colonials, Darin Green.

Darin Jr is a freshman who has started 8 games for them (and been 6th man in the others).  He’s a sharp shooter, who is 24-70 (34%) from deep, but also 8-10 from the line and 18-33 from 2.  His Ortg is an impressive 111 and he’s not turning it over.  Appears to be a very promising player and he wish he had followed his dad to GW.

As for his father, for those who are too young to have seen him, Darin Green was an extremely athletic guard in the late Jarvis years, but for some reason always seemed to be in Jarvis’ doghouse.  He is one of the only guys who I’ve never been able to explain why his playing time was so limited because, to my eyes, almost every time Darin Green came in the game, he made good things happen (especially pick 6 for dunks, which he seemed to do at key moments).

As a sophomore, he was the 7th man on one of the best ever GW teams (the one that lost a big lead to Iowa in the ncaas). He averaged 5 ppg and shot 36% from three.  I expected big things from him moving forward, but he largely disappeared as a junior and senior, with his scoring and shooting % fading badly to under 3 ppg both years (and just 7-35 from three the last two years combined).  He didn’t even play every game, so I wonder if he was hurt.

The guy really showed a ton of promise and never quite put it together on the court, but I always enjoyed his athletic game and his skills - and I’m looking forward to watching his son play next to Collin Smith and beyond.

Re: Darin Green Jr

I forgot to add this in the Other Games thread, but UCF is playing at Houston right now on ESPN2

Re: Darin Green Jr

IIRC Jarvis always had someone in his doghouse.

Re: Darin Green Jr

He looked terrific tonight for UCF as they defeated Michigan in Orlando.  I always liked his father when he played for GWU.

Re: Darin Green Jr

Michigan appears to be crumbling, what's going on there? big win for UCF

Also, Collin Smith left UCF and is now coming off the bench at NC A&T?
