Mojo was given an unexpected golden opportunity to be the head coach at GW. It didn’t work out but he garnered 4 years of HC experience. He has been able to land 3 subsequent assistant positions. He was not the first or last coach to be fired. It’s a business and the hired to be fired mantra is not unique to college basketball. He would want to beat GW because they’re playing the team that currently employs him, same as playing LaSalle or Duquesne or any other A-10 opponent. His dismissal at GW didn’t come out of the blue. I can’t imagine there’s much of an added incentive to beat GW, let alone one that could be transferred to players for whom he is the new assistant coach. We’ll have enough problems with Richmond without inventing remotely hypothetical added difficulties of the ire of a former coach.

The bottom line to this discussion, which genuinely started out as a tongue-in-cheek remark, is that unless a Richmond player or Chris Mooney is publicly quoted along the lines of "we're looking forward to playing hard for MoJo", "winning this one for MoJo", or something to this effect, none of us will ever know how incentivized, if at all, the Spiders will be when facing GW. The absence of any public statements will not at all necessarily mean that the players will not be extra motivated. Nor will this mean that they definitively are.

I bet they'll be super, extra-motivated. Just crazed. Whipped into an absolute frenzy by their once-scorned assistant. They will play like they have never played before, and as they stand over our players, flexing, dunk-after-dunk, we will hear them scream, "MOJO."
In the ashes, when all is over and our players are dead, we will sit in the stands, the breath struggling to return to our lungs after the horrified screaming. "Gwmayhem was right." we'll cry.
In all seriousness, reading back this thread, the fact that such an offhanded, inoffensive comment riled us so is very entertaining.

"Steve" is "GWMayhem" that's rather obvious
and both are GW Rising, ("Blue Seats vs Mailvan" the same old games "Bo Knows vs The MV" funny how each new GW Coach brings a new set of names)
Herve proved it long ago.
The one man, one name rule, if/when properly instituted would vanish 20 of those names. Might even lead to a quasi functioning board, how about we aim for that?
As for Mojo, good luck to Mojo...except against GW

"Dude" is really "Brian Paul" who is also "Nerostolemyboyfriend" who is related to "Matt Gaetz" and was with "Jeffrey Epstein" boinking little girls.
Some need to get off the unemployment and find a job here!
Back to GW Basketball. We should worry more about beating Fordham and Duquesne than Mojo. Mojo had his shot and failed. Whether he gets another shot in the future is anyone's guess.

Joel, the pandemic enhanced unemployment benefits have given the "Dude" a lifeline to hang out here and espouse his conspiracy theories while contributing zero to GDP. Of course, some thought that was the case pre-pandemic so go figure..

I am Barry and The Dudette just earned himself another 5 day suspension for his constant whining and inability to use 20 different names!
Now we all know that he and Brian Paul are a 2 man show on an island by themselves.
Now back to GW Basketball. The portal seems to have slowed to a trickle. Hoping we can pick up 1 or 2 more transfers once they see Kentucky and Duke aren't interested in them.

"Joel Joseph" you really ought not libel other men and women. Especially not on another man's website, and under another man's name.
The same situation applies to posters who make "tongue-in-cheek" remarks about Coach Maurice. It's unnecessary.
Some gents on this board and the old one disparaged him personally. The rants directed towards him, other coaches, players, and administrators, and fellow posters, were made in the most vicious, inhumane, and actionable terms.
Nobody needs subtle reminders of that filth.
I hope Coach Maurice has great success. Just not against GW
My tongue-in-cheek remark was that as if it were needed, Richmond would have even more motivation than usual to beat GW now that MoJo is on their staff.
Not surprised that BrianPaul can somehow interpret this as disparaging to MoJo, let alone along the lines of filth. Maybe someone smarter than both of us can explain to me how this is so.

Re: filth, I think he was referring to past discussions, not your initial comments. Which were totally innocuous.

So, to sum up:
I'm not Barry. Someone else has claimed that.
This was not a dig at MoJo, or it was.
MoJo was either done a solid by getting a head coaching opportunity, or it did him serious reputation damage.
Dude is convinced everyone is a multi-named user. BP just wants everyone to be nice, but still creates conflict by rehashing a past that is, well, past. Steve thinks everything is innocuous. Mayhem was trying to be funny.
And I'm closing this thread. Thanks, boys.
P.S.: I get the final word since I'm closing this. MoJo came in as head coach at a time when he otherwise would have never had that opportunity. He was affordable, he was a "good guy" from everything I could see, and he probably recognized that whether he became the winningest GW coach of all time or got fired after a few years that this was his stepping stone. So happy for him that he has been able to keep moving forward in his career and my guess is his next job will be as a head coach somewhere. Good for him.

Don't recall Gwmayhem or anyone else unfairly criticizing Mojo in a personal way. I would know lol. Think this is a bit of the typical "straw man" that Brian Paul so richly loves to employ.

Prayers out to coach, who lost his father today. What a terrible loss. Great guy.
