Busy night for @JamionChristian and his staff.
"Increasingly I expect more schools to take this path. Not because they're worried about recruiting all these guys. But because you've got to build relationships, on the probability that a bunch of these kids end up in the portal down the road. This is the new college basketball"
Agree with this 100%, of that 177 how many will transfer? likely a lot
Based on current transfer rates ... approximately 80.

Not only is it about building relationships, but it's also about conveying a message to high school prospects that the program is not at all satisfied with where they are right now, that they are determined to improve, and that the staff is going to apply the energy, determination, and perseverance needed to make this happen. We have to hope this level of diligence will ultimately pay off.

The Bryant school of recruiting. I'm sure the 177 people we called feel very special

Not the Bryant school of recruiting. Distinguish between "interest" and "offer". Bryant offers 50 or more kids every year. To my knowledge, GW is not throwing around offers like candy. There is nothing wrong with doing your due diligence and seeing who is out there and what their interest in GW might be.

I kinda agree with BM on this one. A call at midnight to a recruit could make GW stick out in their mind as showing they have a big interest in them...until they see on twitter that they also reached out to 176 other players. That volume kinda takes away the juice behind the individual call.

Unless, of course, most other schools are doing the exact same thing (which many are). Also factor in the fact that recruiting has been affected by the pandemic so the 177 calls would have been fewer had their been a summer and HS evaluation of 2023 which would have narrowed the field of potential recruits. Also factor in that there isn't much independent information out there on the class of 2023 due to lack of events or games.

I don't care if they called 177 players or 77 players. All I care about is that the team gets good players that allows GW to be competitive for several years in a row. That's it. If reaching out to 177 players gets them there, great.
I will say that while the pandemic surely impacts recruiting, I'm not going to be thrilled if we hear "well this player didn't pan out, but that's because recruiting was harder during the pandemic." Those same issues plagued every player and every team. If GW can't cull through the 177 players it contacted and get players good for the team, that's on them.

It’s just not going to happen but I’d like to see the DC staff of the Athletic do a story comparing the state and prospects of GW, GMU, AU and Howard basketball with detail on where each ranks within its conference in terms of resources.
Most universities have serious financial challenges but I could benefit from context and comparison when the lens for looking at those challenges is basketball.

This boils down to whether you'd like to know how the sausage is made or do you only need to make sure that the sausage tastes good. I get both sides. On the one hand, I am pleased that JC and staff are working hard to turn things around, to the point where JC was singled out (in a good way) on Twitter for his efforts. On the other hand, we as a fan base have waited five years to see a team that remotely resembles ML's NIT Championship team. So if your attitude is apathy towards what JC is doing or saying from a recruiting standpoint because all that really matters is how well this team performs on the court, it's hard not to understand that too.

Rest assured, no matter what, this won't end with JC fired, out of Coaching, and for 6 years in a row, a local gym attendant

I'll just assume you forgot to include the part about receiving a multi-million dollar settlement.

PLEASE!! Conversations about the past do not belong in this thread. Those topics are exactly why I started this thread so we can focus on players.
Take that conversation somewhere else

Florida Colonial, this conversation needn't be taken anywhere. It needn't be written about ever again short of new information coming out. It's the same poster who brings the issue up time and again. He does it because he's a troll. He obviously can't control himself despite repeated threats to be suspended or banned if he continues in this manner.
The "disgraced Lonergan works in a gym" narrative is only brought up by one person and one person only. The Dude initiates this EVERY time.

Trolls gonna troll. The Dude will continue with his stupid ML comments because that's one of the five things we can talk about (along with Mark Few is basketball Jesus, Gwmayhem is Mailvan is Blue Seats is something, James Bishop is the best GW player ever, inconsistent thoughts about GW recruiting classes). And he'll do it every time because 50% of the time Gwmayhem will respond because they hate each other, or someone else will respond, which will make him think people listen to him. And round and round we go, ruining all the threads.

Oh....six things. JC is great because he's won an NCAA tournament game, and no other coach has in 20 years or something like that. Sorry, I undersold his trolling skills. My sincerest apologies.

And your continued talking about it isn't helping. Stop Please.

I think it's great to get a hometown player like Qwanzi! Looking at his stats, the minutes are kind of all over the place. Do we know if he was dealing with lingering injuries or why he only played 3 games last season?

Steven Adams in the Smith Center with the players today (On Instagram stories). Maybe a good sign considering Gapare is close to him and a recipient of the Steven Adams scholarship .

Always a dozen fake names around MailvanMVMayhem. He antagonizes someone, and out they come. Same old story. Been going on a long time Barry, We ever going to enforce a 1 man, 1 name rule?
As to the prior 5 years, too many Goss Miguels Marfos Griffins Cimino and Swanns in the recruiting well were sinking the program one way or the other.
As to the next 5 years, JC turns this thing around, and will be hounded by Power 5 offers, which will be our biggest concern in time.
Unlike the guy you also cried about who you wanted fired for HIS first two years Mailvan, will not spend his post GW days a local gym attendant. You'll have to find a new name then I guess Mailvan. Speaking of moments in time, recall when it was revealed you were both the Mailvan and your exact oppposite, both of which acompanied by phony attack dog names then too, by the Board Admin? the few people left on the board recall it. Good ol' MailVanHem, same ol' tricks

This is pretty cool FC! Do we have a sense of how often D1 schools (especially ones that aren't high major and producing a lot of NBA talent) provide opportunities like this for their athletes?
