Re: Alumni update-- Olympiad edition

In Spanish, but Argentina Basketball´s official website notes the Yuta-Pato ties to GW in its curtain raiser. Japan´s coach is Argentine. No news on if Garino plays or not, however...

Re: Alumni update-- Olympiad edition

So the Clash of the Colonials was an anti-climax as Garino was a gametime scratch. Apparently Argentina hopes to get him back for the medal round. Yuta had a nice game, but since I am only happy when Argentina loses it was not pleasant watching...

Re: Alumni update-- Olympiad edition

Argentina face Australia in the quarterfinals at 8amET tomorrow (Tuesday) with the winner playing the winner of the España-USA game. Argentina´s official Twatter account earlier today said Garino practiced apart from the team but took part in some shooting drills with the full squad at the end and is "evolving well in accordance with the expected timeframes" (wow, I had no idea Newspeak was the official language of Argentina!).

Re: Alumni update-- Olympiad edition

Patricio Garino dressed but did not play, Argentina fell to pieces in the 2nd half and the St Mary´s Alumni Team won the quarterfinal by 38 to advance to play the USA in the semis.
From finishing second in the Worlds to going 1-6 in 2021 (with the only win coming against a fairly weak Japan team), it has been quite a nosedive for Argentine basketball. Oh well, the University can now shelve its plans for a tickertape parade down G Street to welcome a gold medal alum back to campus...
