Other Games - November

I guess this can be the Other Games thread for the rest of November and maybe the first couple weeks of December. The A10 has 2 ESPN games tonight, and Georgetown is playing now at McDonough Gym on FS1. Richmond and Fordham had their games cancelled

UMBC at Georgetown  right now on FS1 - Darnell Rogers starts for UMBC and has hit a few baskets

#18 Arizona State vs Rhode Island   7  on ESPN  - part of a Mohegan Sun event
VCU vs Utah State                              9:30  ESPN 2  - part of an event in South Dakota
High Point at Davidson                      7 on ESPN+
SIU Edwardsville at St.Louis              7 on ESPN+

Had 15 points in his Butler debut. Hard to believe it was just last year he sat out.

The game was at Xavier’s place, but they were playing against Toledo.  Still a great shot.  Nolan finished with 10 points, 5 boards, 1 dime, in 25 minutes.

Arnoldo Toro falls to 2-3 against MAAC teams after St John’s loses to St Peters.

He played last year at South Carolina.

Re: Other Games - November

FQ is right, Terry Nolan's game-winner was against Toledo on Xavier's court which was part of the "Xavier Invitational", they'll face Xavier in a few hours. A good sign for the A10 is that VCU and Rhode Island(both with low projections this year) played very well yesterday, VCU won by 16 against Utah State and appeared to have revamped their roster with several guys who can bring "havoc" to opposing teams. They had Utah State totally out of sorts for the final 8 or 9 minutes of the game. Rhode Island lost 94-88 to #18 Arizona State, Rhode Island trailed by 16 in the 1st half and came back to take a 3 point lead midway through the 2nd half!! Fats Russell fouled out with about 5 minutes left in the game, after struggling for most of the game. D.C.native Antwan Walker was key in Rhode Island making the comeback.

Bradley vs Xavier                              noon  on FS1  - Xavier beat Oakland, 101-49 yesterday, Nolan could be in for a long afternoon
Queens College at George Mason   2:00    ESPN3 - ESPN3 is free online. D.C. is listed as the game location. I just checked Mason's site and it looks like Queens was a last-minute replacement for Northeastern and is a D-2 powerhouse
La Salle vs St.John's                         2:00    FS1   - Toro had 6pts/3rebs in 19mins off the bench last night
VCU vs #15 West Virginia                 2:30   ESPN
Auburn vs St.Joe's                           4:30    FS1
Boston College vs Rhode Island      7   ESPN

Looks like St. John's won. Or am I seeing that wrong?

Yeah, St.John's won 76-75

I also need to add the annual 'OOC Lopsided Final Score of the Week' as Arkansas beat Mississippi Valley State by 80 POINTS, 142-62 last night. Arkansas went on a 28-0 run in the 1st half. It's actually the second largest margin of victory, they beat Bethune-Cookman, 128-46 on December 4, 1991.

Re: Other Games - November

TNJr in what was I believe his 2nd ever game as a true Freshman carved up a massive athletic Florida St team, with aerial dunks and rim attacks, he just scratched his surface here of his true ceiling.

I believe he was picked pre-season newcomer of the league.  Very talented player, going to do big things in the next few years.

As for Jair, wish him well, obviously has a lot of talent, but he also has zero defensive effort and clanking long 2s brings back painful memories.  If you thought yesterday's defensive effort was subpar, and I agree the play to play intensity on D was lacking collectively, recall that was Jair on every play of every possession at GW (and what I've seen of him elsewhere)  Shame because he's got huge potential himself, size, handle and nice touch.

#1 ranked Gonzaga is putting a hurt on #6 Kansas.

America's best Coach, Mark Few, cranks it out year after year, decade after decade.  Already nearing 100 points

George Mason trailing D2 Queens College 65-64 with 49 seconds left.

Re: Other Games - November

George Mason pulled it out by 1 vs the D2 team.

Also TNJr got fouled down 1 with under 1 second to play at Xavier. He misses the the front end of the one on one.  From game winner to game loser in one day.

Re: Other Games - November

FQ,  Nolan hit a 3 that gave Bradley a 1-point lead a couple seconds earlier, it looked like he was going to hit game-winning shots on consecutive days. Xavier made some highly questionable decisions late in that game(including fouling Nolan), but they were able to pull it out. Queens College is supposedly a D2 powerhouse so George Mason struggling to beat them MAY not be that bad. Mason should have invited a weaker D2 team!!

The A10 lost all 4 OOC games yesterday, but I was encouraged by the play of St.Joe's, they lost in OT against Auburn but poor execution in the final seconds when St.Joe's had the lead cost them. FQ mentioned George Mason barely beating Queens College, Mason may have benefitted from the refs not calling a foul on the final possession, it looked like a Mason committed a foul on the game's final possession.

#6 Kansas vs St.Joe's     2:00    FS1  - this could be a bad spot for St.Joe's as Kansas was somewhat embarrassed by Gonzaga yesterday and may take their frustrations out on St.Joe's
George Mason vs Belmont   2  ESPN3  -  Belmont blew out Makur Maker and Howard yesterday. Makur was okay in his debut, he had 11pts/8rebs/1blk and 5 turnovers
Navy at Maryland           3  Big 10 Network - we get to see real quick how legit Navy is and whether or not we should all be discouraged about how GW lost to them!!  Navy also plays Georgetown in a couple days
VCU vs. Memphis           9   ESPN2

Farleigh Dickinson at #24 Rutgers    7   Big 10 Network - When is the last time Rutgers started a season ranked?? It's looks like Pikiell, Hobbs and TJ Thompson has actually resurrected Rutgers basketball
Howard vs Queens College               5  ESPN3 - this is for those of you who want to see 5-star freshman Makur or even Queens College. This is part of a round-robin tournament at the D.C. Convention Center, Howard will play George Mason tomorrow.

Re: Other Games - November

One addition T... #1 Gonzaga plays Auburn at 1130am (again on FOX)  for any hoops junkies looking for an early game

As for Rutgers if you get a chance take a look at some of the monster dunks they had in the 1st win, Ron Harper Jr and some new guy who's name I forgot, but a super athletic looking big (Frosh?)

Speaking of Ron Harper JR, a little surprised he came back (pleasantly so) is he not considered NBA bound??

Re: Other Games - November

The Dude,  the Auburn-Gonzaga game actually started at 11AM, and it looks like Gonzaga is going to run them out of the gym, they lead 26-16 at the moment!! Everyone was right about how good Gonzaga is, and Few was finally able to sign a 5-star, top 10 player(who usually signs with Kentucky, Kansas or Duke) in Jalen Suggs, and you see how dominant the team is!! Gonzaga doesn't appear to have any weakness...great point guard play, athletic wing players and a dominant big man!!

Harper Jr does have the size and athleticism for the NBA, but may not have been consistent. It's good that he came back, going to an NBA when you are not guaranteed to be a lottery pick is not a good move in my opinion.

Re: Other Games - November

Had to miss this one, back to work, but its on the Youtube DVR! I see The Zags have opened up a 29 point lead now!
He's listed at 6'6 240, good size if NBA teams think he can play the 2.  3 Ball perhaps needs to be tightened up but really smart player like his Dad was and more athletic than he seems at first glance

Rutgers has one of the better duos in the nation, Harper Jr and Geo Baker. Amazing work Pikiell Hobbs and staff have done on the Banks of the Ol' Raritan
