Don't remember if Deadspin had more details on the failed Nero NIT snub. Joel offers some interesting ones.
GW made the right decision on that one (Maltzman must have been attending a lack of awareness seminar), but backed the wrong dog in the fight, to put it mildly.
Interesting if anyone recalls anything from the administration side.
Now, on the hotel room thing. Maybe it would be something that the NIT paid for the rooms through the games. Think that may even be a tournament thing.
While ML posting it is good enough for me, I do have some memory of that night which jibes with Joel's. Obviously, I hung around the Garden for the award ceremony and cutting down of the nets, the exalting with other GW fans at the game, etc. But I needed to escort a relative to our hotel afterward. Later, I went over the GW hotel (Something like The Hilton, or possibly a Marriott on Broadway/7th rings a bell--but a lot has gone on in GW history since then).
I recall looking through the bars, lounges and public areas for anyone related with the team--and being quite surprised no one was there.
Seems like they were on the bus or readying for it.

I can't say that I know whether they stayed over or not but I do know that they did not immediately leave NYC. I was at a bar after the game with many from the program, including coaches and players. I literally have a photo with Cavanaugh's MVP trophy.

Also sad about the GWRising post. It's like when I went to my phone's Contact list and saw that 7 of my close friends passed away in the last 2 years. I wonder how many of my graduation class of 1972 are still with us? Can't believe I have been supporting the team for over 50 years. I will miss Rising insights and the insights of others that are close to the program.  Question is, is GW's program really more dysfunctional than any other program? I'm just tired of seeing all the old poster's just fading away.

Sorry to see you go, Rising. Unlike you, most of us didn’t simply pick GW to root for as a basketball team and don’t have the ability to just leave. While you may be disappointed in the process, GW got a coach that has been publicly praised by a top NBA coach in spo. The hire had enough juice to warrant a woj bomb. And the praise his been pretty unanimous. I will choose to continue to root for the university, knowing many mistakes have been made over the years. Hopefully this is when some of the mistakes get turned around. But at least you can now call Georgetown a plucky startup
