GW Hoops / Could GW Learn from this?

I'm not saying any A10 team would ever be able to duplicate Steph's story (link below), but my instincts tell me that a true, long-term investment in GW basketball could pay big dividends for the school.

I agree. Now tell me who has Steph Curry money even one decimal to the left (7 figures) who is going to give it to GW basketball?

1. 22ndandF made a specific point to say how doubtful it would be for any A10 school to duplicate what Steph is building.

2. GW claims over 320,000 alumni worldwide. Davidson claims over 25,000. So, I'm not sure that all is lost.

This is the age old issue. The problem isn't what other schools are doing. The problem is GW. GW can have 1,000,000 alumni. Show me the ones that are going to contribute. 95% don't even know we have a basketball team. The other 5% might know and a tiny subset of those folks actually care enough to give small amounts. It is always the same people who give and none of us have the firepower to give enough to dramatically alter the course of GW basketball. I've been doing this for 30+ years. It is what it is, pipe dreams aside. That said, CC has done his best to get the proverbial blood out of a rock.

Well put Rising! It blows my mind that out of all the GW grads who stay local there are not 50 every year that don’t get seasons for the first time. (I say ay this realizing for some undergrads the lack of school spirit is attractive.)

The better half of the glass is this year’s team is far better than the last time the A10s were here. I really enjoyed watching the league this year and expect a good time.

Davidson´s most prominent alum in its history is Steph Curry. GW´s most prominent sports alum probably does not even crack the Top 50 of prominent GW grads (sorry, but Red is no Jaqueline Bouvier or Colin Powell or John Foster Dulles or Kerry Washington). And GW is not a school that only offers sports in its outreach to the community-at-large (heck, GW is more likely to be a community member´s landlord upping the rent than to be an entertainment option sending out a season ticket brochure)-- more DC residents have probably been to events at Lisner than at the Smith Center.
GW is not s.o.l. with the new money era of college sports, but to think it can (or even wants to) spend money on sports as if the trophy case is all that brings pride to campus is to ignore what GW is.
