GW Hoops / RIP Mike Patrick

Very sad news..Mike Patrick has passed away at the age of 80. Most who know him here will likely remember his as a top PBP announcer for ESPN's Sunday Night Football and college basketball. Those of us from a certain era will remember a young Mike Patrick as the PBP voice of the GW Colonials on WEAM-AM radio.

My seat was next to Mike's (or very nearby) at the Smith Center so I got to know him a little bit. I was always so happy for his continued success because he was such a nice, genuine person away from the microphone. Having worked a bit in sports production, I've had an opportunity to meet a number of sportscasters and I suppose just like in life, some were colossal a-holes, some were perfectly fine, and some were just outstanding people to get to know. Count Mike Patrick in this latter category.

Always liked him as an announcer. Never knew he was a fellow GW grad. Rest in peace Mike

ACC basketball was always great with him, not to mention Sunday Night Football on ESPN. RIP.

RIP to Mike. I remember learning he was a GW alum while I was at GW and thinking that was pretty cool. Maybe this is better suited for a different thread, but with his passing what GW alums are active in sports media? The Charlotte Hornets radio announcer is Sam Farber, and of course there is Clay Travis... is there anyone else?

Certainly not a comprehensive list, but...

Nora Princiotti is at The Ringer, and formerly at The Boston Globe
Maggie Gray is a host on SiriusXM and SNY, and used to host the mid-day show on WFAN
Danny Rouhier is hosting the afternoon drive on 106.7FM in DC
Nkwa Asonye has been doing some stints in sports media across the Northeast and does a bunch of ESPN+ work
Bryan Albin is working with WTOP covering the Wizards
Alex Abnos was managing soccer editor for The Athletic and is now at The Guardian

I know of a handful of folks working in production at ESPN, Fox Sports, GOLF Channel, etc.
