First half thoughts:
Great atmosphere and good on the students for showing up! Rivalry games can be fun, so maybe this becomes a regular event?
The Evil Empire looks like a team that got some games under its belt over the summer and GW does not (missed, plural, alley oops?). Not that either team is in mid-season form, but I would love to see these two teams play each other without the cobwebs.
Bubu is going to be a fan favourite, but I can see how his playing time needs to be earned.
I fear we are seeing the return of OOC Rafael Castro and not A10 season Rafael Castro. Would much prefer the latter.
If you Tivo´d the game, go back and watch Mike Brey´s stint in the colour analyst seat. Fantastic. Would choose him over Pastos in a heartbeat (although, I think Leo´s had better offerings than the turkey & swiss). Otherwise, while I wish them nothing but rodent infestations, I appologize to the Evil Empire fans watching; this is your exhibition and you deserve to know what rotations and combos your team has on the court.
Aside from Malik Mack, I cannot say I am seeing much individual talent from Satan´s Spawn. A long season (hopefully) awaits them. Sad trombone.
Best part of the game is seeing Garrett Johnson on the court. No one can argue with that.

Bad Guys won, GW racked up turnovers as if there is a run on the market and GW chucked up so many wild treys that Congress might pass a law banning GW from shooting from behind the arc. Lots of film study is in the cards.

I never thought I would live to see the day that G’town would place us at the Smitty! It didn’t turn out the way we wanted it to, but it was a great atmosphere and I hope it leads to more games (exhibition or not). Yes, we played sloppy, but so did they (17 to 14 TOs), as can be expected in October. The 3 point shooting was the difference (28% to 36%), as far as I’m concerned. Most of the misses were from Garrett, who is clearly going to need a few games to get back to form, and Dinkins, who is going to have to learn to be more selective in his shots (no more shots 10 feet behind the 3 point line, please). Castro had a slow start, as he often does when playing against bigger teams, but I thought he adjusted nicely and played a much better second half. We basically played them even in the second half (down 6 at half and down 6 when we started fouling at the end). Nothing that I saw changed what we can be this year - its still really early. Raise High!

Some overreactions for a game that doesn't count (although it was clear the game mattered somewhat to both teams). It was great to see Smith rocking. If only a few more threes fell - some good looks that didn't fall. Really liked the cutting off the ball on offense. Hope to see this series continue in the future.

- Slim missed a lot of shots he generally makes but he went up against bigger guys than he'll face in A10 play.

- Tricky was solid. Happy to see more drives to the rim and him being more involved as a passer (a skillset that he has that hasn't been used enough while he's been at GW). Great effort on the glass as usual as well.

- CJ was kind of eh despite leading the team in scoring. He was great getting to the basket and seems to have put on a lot more strength. Still, he needs to be better from the FT line and I fear a regression in three point shooting this year (although he's probably going to be streaky all year). Yeah it's an exhibition, but the turnovers are still infuriating. Trying to get the ball in before someone is ready to collect it and in general just a lot of sloppiness. There are certainly question marks about PG play on this roster.

- Really happy to see Garrett back on the floor. I think he looks a lot better defensively. I'll say the airball threes were due to rust.

- I really liked what I saw from Bubu. Feisty on defense and good arc on his shot. Gives full effort on plays.

- Not sure what to make of Tre. His three threes in a short period of time in the first half got GW going again but CC has some decisions to make as to when to let him operate in isolation, something this squad didn't have last year once JB graduated. Unless he's feeling it, not sure he should be launching like that in real games. Some threes probably a bit too deep and not within the flow of the offense, although he did the same at Duquesne. I thought he held his own defensively, although it's an exhibition. Overall, it seems like he is better served off ball rather than a pure facilitator (kind of like Tricky).

- Woo gave good minutes, and may just be the solution to rebounding at the 4. I get the sense that he's not going to have a lot of plays called for him offensively and will likely have to pick and choose when he gets shots up, but I hope he gets more looks.

- Jean was a bit disappointing tonight, but I don't think that will be the case all season. The length clearly bothered him which he won't be seeing most of the year. One of his biggest issues at Hofstra was getting stuck at the baseline on drives to the basket and having nowhere to go with the ball. That happened multiple times when he drove at multiple Hoya players.

- Would have liked to see Ty play more (especially in an exhibition) but obviously CC was not fully treating it as such.

- Like what I saw from Luke overall. It's nice to bring some additional size/physicality off the bench and he seems to have a nice touch around the rim.

Georgetown had some nice players. Caleb Williams seems poised for a breakout year. Mulready seems pretty poised for an underclassman and drilled some big shots. Mack had some James Bishop-like midrange shots. Lewis good on defense but bad on offense. DHS seems to have carried over his brutal shooting from Maryland. Honestly, their bigs didn't look better than ours.

Looking forward to the games starting to count. Ideally, it would be nice to get both Tricky and Dinkins off the ball at times, but that requires CJ or Jean to emerge at PG and at least tonight neither one really claimed that. Additionally, while we played a bigger team GW will need to find a way to get to the FT line a lot more now that Jun is out of the fold.

Mo and Zeke were both on the TV broadcast in the 2nd and Brey (who was fantastic, too bad he has a job because he would be an awesome TV analyst) was on in the 1st.

Willing to take the excuse, going in and coming out, that they had more games. It showed.
We were often out of sync, somewhat but not totally understandable. Interestingly, they shot 19 FTs compared to our 5, which is not a good stat, though we purposely fouled a lot at the end.
Lot of apt points expressed already. Way too much poor, actually senseless shot selection, featuring
low-percentage 3-pointers--and we shot a low percentage. Maybe everyone was trying to show their worth,
even forcing it, and it wasn't the game for it. We took a game that looked briefly like it could be a nailbiter
to one that was a constant game of catch up-- and shots killing our chances.
Georget#%n moved the ball much, much better. And they limited Castro, as noted by others.
We know Tre Dinkins can score. But don't want to see him channeling James Bishop. This was not
the good JB version either. We are happy to land him. Hope that this was just trying to do a bit too much in a high-profile, big crowd game, albeit an exhibition.
Wish we did better--and we have talent that can and should be more effective, even against a Big East team.
Bright spots: You can see what should be a better talent level and greater athleticism,
We seem to have the springy forwards we've long lacked in Bubu Benjamin and Ty Marshall. This can pay off both defensively and offensively. Bubu plays hard and shot well. Much extra credit to him for wanting to take on the entire evil opposing team.
And of course, it was absolutely terrific to see Garrett on the court-and moving well.
Overall, despite some personal pluses and minuses and a couple of rough first outings for players, it certainly seems like we have an improved team and potential talent level that we haven't seen for a long time. We need to cut down on the bakery level turnovers, though the other team came close to matching us. But our depth alone should enable us to wear down most OOC opponents.
With more team play and presumably better shooting, it at least seems like we can still have some real hopes for a good year.

First, my brief reply to Rising, then some game notes. Rising, I hope and trust you were in attendance. After experiencing that game, if you really believe that nobody under the age of 60 would care about a GW-Georgetown exhibition, or that the players and coaches would treat this like the exhibition game that it was, then you simply must be incapable of ever acknowledging that you were wrong about something. Nobody has argued that this game means anything to standings or metrics. However, IMO, it was a far more valuable learning experience than going out and beating Bowie State by 30 points in front of 800 people.

Regarding the game...

1) Very glad to see Georgetown contest practically every dribble, pass and shot. To many of GW's turnovers were of the careless variety. I'm guessing that nobody scores in practice, turns around to pretend to run back up court, only to come back and steal the inbounds pass. In a game situation, the Hoyas attempted this several times and succeeded once or twice.

2) Please, let's not make a big deal of the very long three point shot attempts. Both Dinkens and Johnson are going to have green lights from anywhere because they've demonstrated the capability of making very long shots. I get that these misses aren't aesthetically pleasing but I'm willing to bet that of all the things to work on, taking away these opportunities will not be one of them.

3) Last season, we saw GW try to trap opponents more often than in any of CC's previous years. It was for the most part an ineffective tactic and I blamed the fact that the team lacked the depth to execute these traps more aggressively (and did not want to get into foul trouble). Last night, it was more of the same despite this being an exhibition and the team having greater depth than ever before under CC.

The thing about trapping is that if you're going to do it, you had better come up with a steal or force a turnover a high percentage of the time because when you don't do this, the other team often has a layup or an "odd man break". This happened numerous times last night, particularly during the first half when GW was attempting to trap more often. A "passive" trap serves no real purpose and again, often puts the defense at a disadvantage. So if we're going to do this, the defense can't be afraid to foul if the tradeoff is generating more steals and forcing more turnovers.
