Great win for the ladies against an 8-1 VCU squad on the road!! Team came out really energized after halftime, but of course things got stressful once again at the end. A little sloppy with the turnovers but liked that the team wasn't settling for threes. Kayla with 6 points and 10 rebounds. Lexus Levy had her first start and showed really great composure knocking down the game winning free throws.

Next two games against La Salle and George Mason at home are winnable, but playing at Dayton seems like a sure loss given we lost by 16 to them at home (better shooting would definitely help).

Does anyone remember another game where the minutes were spread so evenly?   Anyone know what the problem is with Gumbs and Luma?    By problem - I mean type of injury?

The coach was doing wholesale substitutions like 4 or 5 players at a time.  In the twitter interview/blurb afterwards she said she wanted to give everyone an opportunity to contribute.

GW essentially employed 2 platoons — 5 in, 5 out throughout the game up until the end. Luma has been out injured since the Maryland game. Gumbs and Overcash apparently are on the persona non grata platoon.

To say the least, this game was interesting. Beating VCU at their place was not on many folks' radar. Regardless of how you feel about her coaching, I think what Coach did was risky in that it could have opened her up to some criticism for the approach. On the other hand, it showed that the team has at least 10 players that deserve playing time, and because of the inconsistency of players from one game to the next, finding the right combinations to play in  games has definitely been a challenge. I can imagine the practice this week featured these these teams scrimmaging each other in preparation. Consider this: Team 1 (Loder, Levy, Stephenson, MoKwuah, Taiwo) and Team 2 (Hyduke, Blethen, Maund, Brown, Zambrotta). Here are their combined stats for the game.

Team 1: 100 minutes; 29 points on 12-24 (1-6 on 3 pointers) 17 rebounds, 5 assists and 11 turnovers.
Team 2: 100 minutes; 27 points on 10-23 (5-7 on 3 pointers) 11 rebounds, 8 assists and 6 turnovers.

Amazingly, Team 1 overcame a higher number of turnovers with more rebounds. So it seems that we have two different 5 player rosters, who were able to essentially play even against one of the better teams in the A10. Not sure how this will manifest itself in future games, but I'm feeling a little better about the level of talent we have (but we definitely need an elite point guard).

Next game should be really interesting.

xAC, you can't look at the Stats to get a true picture of who was causig many of the turnovers. Hyduke again couldn't keep her assignment in front of her and was reaching on D and also getting to the glass. It was nice to see Levy do so well in crunch time.

For next year, we have 4 guards who have to improve and Brown and Blethen who can add ball handling in the offense end along wwith shooting from 3.

I was joig that we need to teach Taiwo how to shoot a FT wth a chance to get it to go in. Her shoot is always to strong. Until then we will continue to have empty possessions in crunch time.

I am not sure I would have called the subtitution approach as coaching. More like throwing hands in air.

I will take the win.
