A-10
George Washington – Oct. 15 vs. Drexel

  • Since the NCAA began allowing teams to replace one or both exhibition games with a scrimmage in 1998, they have been colloquially referred to as ‘secret scrimmages,’ given that they cannot be publicized. The “secret” attached to those scrimmages is generally poorly kept.

Drexel was 153 in KenPom last year vs. 226 for GW.  In terms of common opponents, Drexel beat St. Joe's, Charlotte, and Coppin State.

Drexel lost 3 starters due to graduation or transfer.  The scrimmage should be a fair test of how well CC has our guys prepared for the OOC slate.

Going to disagree a bit as to whether this will a "fair test" of how well CC has our guys prepared for the OOC slate. Quite honestly, most scrimmages are not a fair indication of anything. Several reasons. First, coaches play more guys (not just regular rotation) than they would in regular season. Second, sometimes the scrimmage is designed by agreement for coaches to provide different looks to their opponents to help them prepare. Third, sometimes the scrimmage is very vanilla as far as scheme because no coach wants to put their best stuff out there so their first opponent has any kind of scout (yes there are always leaks despite the so-called secret scrimmage status). So the scrimmage is often not very indicative of anything when these factors come into play.

The scrimmage is just what it is called "a scrimmage" and should not be confused with a real game. I have known GW teams to smoke their opponents in scrimmages only to come out and underperform that in the regular season. Much like summer league, scrimmages can fool you. They are a necessary part of the preparation process but not much of a good predictor of anything.

Ive been told that neither Max or Hunter Dean played because of health issues. Feedback I got was the performance was pretty underwhelming. Obviously, there are a major depth issues and no one played well enough to show that has changed. Also, should hear tomorrow about about first commitment.

This is especially disturbing news, especially with Jabari West out indefinitely due to injury.  I am particulary concerned about Max.  Although he looked healthy enough during the Kenner, the fact that he missed yesterday is very disturbing, especially given that he missed all of last season at K State due to injury.  I feel the air being let out of my optimism (even though it may have been an unrealistic optimism), especially on top of the recent polling release that are predicting that we will once again be near the bottom of the conference.

Still got some time before the season, but that would be a significant loss if both/either Max and
Hunter have significant injuries.
Particularly because of Max's before, as LSF points out.
However, the commitment(s) sounds good.

FWIW, Max said he was feeling "110%" in an interview last week

Max and Hunter will be fine. Just weren't able to suit up Saturday for short-term reasons.
