You're selling our coaching and administrative staff short with this. Every indication we've received from the coaching staff is that they recognize the importance of, and their desire to go about, scheduling games against high-major opponents this season. The problem is that if every high-major opponent says "no" then there's really nothing we can do. This isn't a GW-specific problem, 95% of competent mid-major schools can't schedule high-major opponents because it is pure downside, with no upside, for the bigger program.

With that said the next best thing is scheduling the best mid-major programs we can, and the jury is still out on that one. If we end up with another embarrassing non-con schedule again, I'd be more likely to agree with your criticisms, but it's also worth noting that VCU was to close to, if not an outright, at-large team with the 293rd rated non-con schedule in the country last year.  

Stuff happens, I get it, but this is so deflating because it is self-inflicted. Like Rising said, Dembele will play at another school in 6 months with no problem at all, so it's not like this is an unsolvable problem for schools across the country. I don't understand who this more stringent approach to admissions even serves. Who was going to be upset if the admissions office fudged the numbers a bit to make this work? All this does is piss off a dwindling fanbase, and, at least partially, drive a wedge between the university and a coaching staff that has shown enough promise that I'd like them to stick around. If I were CC, I'd be livid.

I'm positive this whole process is much more complicated than I am giving it credit for, but this is still ridiculous and unacceptable.

I had really hoped that with Granberg and Lipitz rowing in the same direction that some of these typical GW admissions complications wouldn’t continue to block otherwise qualified students. When a team can’t enroll a 3 year graduate of Duke without turning itself into a pretzel to satisfy the admissions process, then something is dysfunctional at the university that holds itself in much higher academic regard than the rest of the world. Don’t know what the particulars are in this instance but I’ve heard enough horror stories over the years to lean toward thinking this is just another self-inflicted impediment beyond our tuition cost to competing with our conference peers.

For as much as whatever is happening can be chalked up to institutional incompetence, it could just as easily be that whoever we are going after took an "I didn't come here to play school" approach to college basketball. For all we know, GW's admin has already dotted their i's and crossed their t's and the hold up is entirely on the prospective transfer not having the grades/credits to transfer.

I'd hope this means the high major PF you mentioned we were close on last week is still in play, and still widely unreported as a potential fit with GW. Would hate to see increased interest from guys like Strong indicate that initial plans fell apart and we're already onto Plan B.
