Have to agree that we just have terrible leadership. They are clueless on how to run an Athletic Department. For that matter the whole School Administration has done nothing but make mistakes. Where do we get these people? Sad.

I know a lot of Vanderbilt and Tennessee fans. Vanderbilt has been terrible in sports (except for baseball) the last half century. They will never leave the SEC because of the $ they get from the conference. UT fans feel like their being pressured to keep giving more and more. A lot of them have dropped their season football tickets because of the outlandish requests for more money to buy players. I don't think anyone I know who likes the new situation.
On a side note. Living in the South can be a pain with warm weather here. Cut the lawn twice and got my first mosquito bites on Sunday. My friends and relatives up in PA and NJ don't have to deal with bugs yet. Just earthquakes.

Bob Hurley Sr. coached at St. Anthony's in Jersey City till the school closed in 2017. He won 28 State Championships, 4 USA Today National Championships, 3 times National Coach of the Year, 12 Tournament of Champions Championships (All State Champions Divisions  play off) and 18 undefeated seasons. He dominated NJ HS Boys basketball for many years. So he trained his sons well.

With the new state of affairs in college basketball I wonder what recruiting experience really means?

Didn't Bing Crosby go to Gonzaga? Wonder what it was like when he went to school there? Or what GW was like?

That's what we get after years and years of losing. The good old days was when the men's team would be, once in awhile, be in the Big Dance. We knew the women's team would be in.  Now most of our sports teams are below .500 and their is no demand from the students to get better. The Moniker change was also a Big boost for attendance.

GW69 and I were from the days when GW was part of the Southern Conference. The Big debate at the time was if we should leave the Southern Conference. Most schools in the area have looked north (Maryland).  But yes, I feel the same way about the NIL. Horrible.

Just looking at schools we played when I was on campus. The days before the A10. Pitt (H) , Brown(H) , Virginia Tech,(A) Maryland (A), West Virginia,(A) Penn State,(A) Miami (Fl)(H), Cincinnati(H), Georgetown,(H) UMass(N) MSG, Marshall;(H) Next year Maryland (H), Marshall (A), Pitt (A), Texas A&M (H), Virginia (A), Temple (H), West Virginia (H), Cincinnati (A), Syracuse (A) Georgetown (A). After 1982 Georgetown stopped playing us. From 1916-1982 we played every year. Too bad the younger members on this board never experienced this annual event. The walk to and from GU was fairly easy. After a quick stop at The Tombs. With Thompson gone when are we going to start playing Georgetown again?

taking a break from watching Dayton by watching our 1993 NCAA team. What a team! Defense, rebounding, shooting.  Crunched New Mexico and Southern and had Michigan on the ropes when refs decided not to call foul line pushoffs on Michigan. Brigham kept complaining about being pushed under the basket. Refs ignored him. Would have played Temple in Final Eight. We split with them in regular season. Our closest sniff of Final Four. Haven't been close since.

Time to sue in the name of equity. Revenue sharing for all teams in Division One.

Should be a good reason to reduce Big 5 teams in Tourney because of their poor performance. Of course they won't schedule mid majors because of fear of getting beat.

Two days ago SEC commissioner Greg Sankey advocated for taking away NCAA tourney bids from smaller leagues because they couldn’t compete. The SEC is now 0-3 and mighty Kentucky was sent home by Horizon League champ Oakland

SEC not doing too well. Big Blue people down here are not happy. Calipari has a lot of great one and done players. A lot of freshmen got beaten by an experienced Oakland team.

Wow! Dayton woke up. They were sleep walking most of the game. Good for them.

Dayton looks terrible today. At least Duquesne won.

Dayton looks really sloppy against Nevada

GW Men's Hoops » The March Madness Thread » 3/21/2024 2:04 pm

Good for Duquesne. Their fans needed more relief than us. Positive for A10.

Sorry to see Max go but from some of the whispers that I heard, I can't say I am terribly surprised.    Admittedly, I was disappointed in his performance this year.  At his best, I saw him as being a little bit  of Kethan Savage and Sirvalient, with maybe even a little JoeBam.  He could create shots, was a great slasher and a hell of a rebounder.   Had a very good midrange game too, and a good enough 3 point shot.  Very good free throw shooter also. Unfortunately, we did not see Max at his best so often during the season.   So many poor decisions on the Court.   Too much standing around in the corner hoping someone would throw him the ball.  To much putting the head down and driving out of control to the basket.  And at least once a game, he would throw a pass to an area in the court where there wasn't anybody from either team anywhere in the vicinity.   Would play hero ball too much to my liking and seemed to always look to make the highlight reel play. And his defense often appeared lazy.  Still  not sure if his losing his starting position was based on merit (he was clearly better than Trey) or was a benching.   There were a couple of games where he would not even get into the game for 10 minutes, although as the bench shrunk, he was usually put in around the first media timeout.   My  hope was that Max would stay and be "fixed" during the off season so we once again got to see on a consistent basis the potential he demonstratied after winning freshman of th eyear.   But if he was to return and play the same as he did this past season, then everyone may be better off with his leaving.   Would not be shocked to see him land up in the Atlantic 10.   As the old saying goes, we finished last with him, we can finish last without him

This scares me a bit. We lost a lot of games this year by just a few points. I wonder if this is a new trend of players in the NCAA who want to transfer don't play as well as th

Bryce Drew, Valparaiso coach we beat to win the NIT , left for Vanderbilt and was a disaster. Then he went to Grand Canyon and went to the NCAA several times. Does a coach change or is its circumstances? One coach I knew was good a long time ago was a Northeastern coach. I wish we got him. His name was Calhoun. I think he went to Connecticut instead.

Article in today's Tennessean (Gentry Estes}  about Jerry Stackhouse. "Before exit, Stackhouse gave Vandy a warning" Stackhouse said, "When we first started here we thought that just getting on par with the other schools having the facilities and things like that would help. Now that's not enough....In order to really get in the door, you've got to have the NIL. That's a big part of it. You have to be a player in that, and we quite frankly haven't been a big player in that yet. Those are the things that have to become a part of it."  It's a moneypit. No end in sight. Just to compete , a Major conference university will  continue to throw millions into facilities, coaching salaries, buyouts, and now to add and retain players. Gentry Estes goes on about how an academic private school has a hard time competing with the big public universities in the SEC. At least we don't have that problem in the A10. I wonder, do the private schools in the ACC lower their academic standards to get players. I'm pretty sure Duke does.
