A note to Tonya Vogel. We are saddened by the extensive destruction in the Bahamas. The loss of infrastructure ,loss of life and family separation is incomprehensible to most. The November 22 tournament scheduled in the Bahamas will not occur. GW could be involved in a positive effort to help those unfortunate people. I propose offering to hold the Tournament at The Smith Center. Turn the tournament into a fund raiser. Let GW pledge $100,000 to hurricane relief and ask the other schools to make a significant pledge. This is small change for a major university. Alumni can be recruited to offer pledges. Jonquil Jones might offer to be part of this effort since she was from Freeport.Hotel rooms are always available in D.C. With three major airports nearby, the participating schools will have no trouble attending. Good press for GW. Help for people in need. Basketball doing a good deed. Let’s think out of the box.

I’d get behind this idea!

Wait. Is there confirmation that the tournament in the Bahamas has been cancelled? Anyone have a link?

Couldn't find anything on line. Would be unfortunate if we lost out on playing 3 games. (I know, that is probably insensitive).

This year's showcase is in Nassau (New Providence Island), which, fortunately, got passed over by Dorian. Because of tourism and the fact that major commercial businesses are mostly headquartered on New Providence, much was made of the fact of how important continued revenues from these would be to the recovery of the other islands. It seems likely that this will be an important event for the Bahamas, and hopefully it will generate a lot money to that end.

Not so sure this is an "important event" if its marquee draws are UMKC, GW and ECU. But if hotels, the airport and the gym are all able to handle the event then it will likely go ahead. Tournament website is still up and makes no hint that this will not go on as scheduled.

Decision to cancel has not yet been made. Island in which the tournament is scheduled was apparently not hit as hard as other places.

No indication that the event has been scrapped. And today, UNC released its full schedule confirming the Battle 4 Atlantis the following week is going ahead as scheduled. Its field is UNC, Oregon, Michigan, Gonzaga, Iowa St, Seton Hall, ´Bama and So. Miss. That seems like a stronger field than the event GW is in...
