Mason is currently getting with Kim English what we thought we were getting with JC
"This is our fourth win against a team that will finish at the top of their league," head coach Kim English said. "That's the most important thing. I saw something in the media where they said it was a big game for us. Our guys know that's the complete opposite of what we preach. We didn't prepare for Maryland any differently than we did Stony Brook, Penn, Morgan State. Our standard is our standard. I'm really proud of our guys. It keeps us on track with our goals. It's a quality road win."
Earlier today, Kim English was on Sportstalk980 locally making similar statements, it's good that he didn't fall into the trap of saying something like "This Was Our Super Bowl" after the win. I like that even-keeled approach, even if he did celebrate privately!! BCS coaches(like Turgeon) saying "They All Wanted To Play At Maryland" after tough games or losses to "lesser" schools is also falling into a 'Big Brother-Little Brother' sort of trap!!

Xavier beats Ohio St!
We could really use Xaxier still in the A10, would be good to have one program, that's very good year after year, VCU is pretty close to that, Dayton sort of too but a one really powerful program atop the league would be good for everyone in the conference.

Bonnies beat Clemson!
Bonnies defeated a very solid Boise St team last night as well.
On to the Semis of a good tourney, I think the opponent depends on the winner of tonight's game
Siena vs G'town on FS2 now

St. Bonaventure will face the winner of Marquette and West Virginia for the championship. It looked St. Bonaventure brought a LOT of fans to this tournament and they have a home court advantage.
There is sort of an odd occurrence tonight as GW, Georgetown, Maryland, George Mason and Virginia all have televised games going on right now. I don't recall something like this happening often. Maryland struggles again in the 1st half, they only led Hofstra by 3 or 4 points at halftime. George Mason is also down by 8 to James Madison late in the 1st half. That game is on the other NBC Sports Washington channel.

Oh Finals already!? Didn't realize thought it would be Sunday finale.
Really good wins for St Bona, and I also noticed what a good crowd they have in South Carolina!
That would be a really tourney for an A10 team to win, good field of teams. who won that other Semi Final game?

ESPNU is now showing the replay of the St. Bonaventure-Clemson game, Clemson was up by as much as 15 or 16 in the first half. Former Fordham star Nick Honor is now a key player at Clemson. The Marquette-West Virginia will be shown after the St. Bonaventure-Clemson game.
The Dude, the championship game will be tomorrow night at 7:30 on ESPN or ESPN2. St. Bonaventure will play Marquette(who beat West Virginia last night) for the Charleston Classic title. The way they televise games on different networks and have a semifinal games at 2:30 then 8:00pm can throw things off for viewers
Maryland barely escaped Hofstra last night, they were down by 4 with about a minute left. I think the Hofstra players panicked in the final minute(with the game tied in the final seconds, a Hofstra player had his long jump shot blocked and then that player immediately fouled the guy who blocked his shot, the Maryland player hit the free throws that ended up being the game winning points) because they weren't expected to be in that position!!

Dayton loses to Austin Peay, VCU loses to Chattanooga, Richmond loses to Drake, and St. Joe's loses to Monmouth.
No question we've had a rough start but man oh man is the A10 really hurting itself in the OOC. Let's hope the top tier teams stay afloat otherwise we may end up as a max 2 bid league this year.
EDIT: Duquesne blows a big second half league and loses to Colorado in OT.

Richmond is in an OOC tournament with Maryland during the upcoming week so maybe they can redeem themselves because they are considered the 2nd best team in the A-10
UMass vs Ball State 2:30 CBS SportsNetwork
Davidson vs East Carolina 6 ESPNU
Boston College vs. Rhode Island 6 - I'm not seeing a TV listing for this game, they just played each other a few days ago and Rhode Island won 57-49
#22 St. Bonaventure vs Marquette 7:30 ESPN - this is championship game of the Charleston Classic. An interesting note on Marquette is, their starting backcourt is made up of former local college players in Tyler Kolek (George Mason) and Darryl Morsell(Maryland). I believe D.Morsell leads Marquette in scoring after being a defensive stopper/"emotional leader" role player for Mark Turgeon during the past 4 years.

Thomas, For this Title game, the gym is absolutely packed with Bonnies fans!
in Charleston South Carolina no less!!
The Bonnies POUNDED Marquette to win this tourney, collecting some really good wins a long the way.
Good title for the A10 to collect early in the OOC

Just finished - Kent State beats James Madison if the first game of the Naples invitational 74-69.
I believe that if GW wins, they play Kent State tomorrow. Otherwise, it's James Madison.

Jair Bolden and his Butler Bulldogs are facing off against Houston right now. At the 9:30 minute mark Houston is up 22-11 but Bolden has all 11 of Butler's points. 3-3 from three point range

Fordham is blowing out a good Akron team, Duquense won, GW of course too.
an on the rise Mason team has a good test vs Washington tonight

Hofstra is playing at Richmond right now on NBC Sports Washington. Richmond is also struggling with Hofstra like Maryland was.
I watched a Butler game last week and Bolden was coming off the bench, in favor of a highly touted freshman guard. It looked like he got recruited over, but it's good to see that he played well today.
I don't know how many of you caught the end of St. Bonaventure's blowout of Marquette, but in the final minute, St. Bonaventure's coach called a timeout(I assume to put in the bench players), for some reason this angered Shaka Smart, as he started yelling at Mark Schmidt and pointing at the scoreboard. Apparently, Shaka Smart must have thought it was poor sportsmanship for the winning team to call a timeout. It looked like Schmidt tried to explain to him that he meant no disrespect during the post-game hand shake, and Shaka seemed to ignore him and just walk past him. Schmidt and Shaka Smart coached against each other in the A-10 when S.Smart was at VCU, I wonder if there was any bad blood between them? Did any sort of incident(s) take place between VCU and St. Bonaventure when they coached against each other?

Calling a time out late to get bench warmers into the game is common. If that’s true, that’s really poor sportsmanship by Shaka in response to Bonnies thoroughly dismantling his team.

Gonzaga won 107-54 tonight to advance vs #2 UCLA tomorrow night.
#1 vs #2 showdown. Looks like a preview of the likely NCAA title game.
The Zags have been #1 in the Nation 20 weeks in a row, the first time since the 70s that's happened in the sport.

#1 Gonzaga 33 #2 UCLA 8
Rematch of the OT win for Gonzaga last year in The Final Four that sent them to the National Title game for the 2nd time in 4 years.

VCU vs Syracuse 5 ESPN - This is an opening round game of the Battle for Atlantis. Michigan State, Loyola-Chicago, #22 UConn, Auburn, Arizona State and #6 Baylor are also in this tournament. VCU already has home losses to Wagner and Tennessee-Chattanooga but their last game was a win at Vanderbilt.
UMass Lowell at UMass 7 ESPN+ - Lowell has a chance to go 3-0 against the A-10 tonight
Stephen F. Austin vs St. Louis 8:30 - this may be the championship game of a tournament. St. Louis won an OOC game last night. It looks like they could still have a decent team without star Javonte Perkins.
George Mason vs. South Dakota State 9:30 ESPN+ - this is the last place game of an OOC tournament. George Mason has lost 3 straight games after the upset win at Maryland.

Hurley has predictably turned around UCONN, ranked again and took down higher ranked Auburn in 2OT
115-109 in the highest scoring college game it seems in years.

VCU beats Syracuse with ease, in the Battle 4 Atlantis.
When it comes time for selection Sunday, those are the kind of wins that can make a difference in a season
Good day all around for The A10
