Re: 2022-23 Schedule

A very reasonable schedule overall. Depending on what the "TBD" game is, we should hopefully be arriving in Hawaii no worse than 7-3. Not overlooking what Speedy Claxton has done at Hofstra for sure and it's a road game on top of that. Hopefully the UC San Diego game is won this year.

Re: 2022-23 Schedule

First Conference game is Loyola on New Years Eve. It’ll make the games versus WVU look like a reading room.

Re: 2022-23 Schedule

Should be 7-2 heading to Hawaii by my reckoning, as only two schools (Hofstra and South Carolina) finished the year with a better KenPom rating than us (226). Hopefully we are at least as good as last year with the new coaching staff, understanding that we lost 2 of our top 3 scorers but hoping the new coaches can get more out of those who are left and significant contributions from the new guys.

The schedule is good for me. Mostly easy games with a couple tougher ones mixed in early on, then a tournament with at least one game against a top tier team before starting the A10 slate.

Re: 2022-23 Schedule

The only word (noise maybe?) that this schedule brings to mind is YUCK. Considering we're two months from opening day I can't imagine the TBD will turn into anything interesting either. I guess I'll just hope that the schedule serves as a vehicle for the group to gain confidence by December 22nd when it will get real finally.

Re: 2022-23 Schedule

Kind of a training wheels schedule, as noted. Virginia State? But that's where we are.
Wouldn't want to see this in the future if we have postseason aspirations anymore.

Re: 2022-23 Schedule

Well, unlike the last few years, lets hope the new staff can win games we are "supposed to win."  We will see if CC can win with JC's players - we know JC couldn't win with his own players.

Kinda like the old saying about a great coach, "he could win with his own players and with his opponent's players."

Re: 2022-23 Schedule

Virginia State? A D-2 school that's not an exhibition game? I thought the NCAA and the A-10 eliminated D-1 schools from scheduling regular season games against lower divisions other than tourney's (Chaminade in Hawaii, Great Alaska Shootout).

Weakest non-conference schedule I have seen in 30+ years of following GW Basketball.

Our SOS factor will be one of the lowest in all of D-1.

Keep Raising High!

Re: 2022-23 Schedule

St. Louis seemingly has a D-2 game versus one of its neighboring schools every season.

Re: 2022-23 Schedule

Looking for a bright side, we have become the answer to a trivia question.  We will be Loyola-Chicago's first ever A10 opponent.

This is a day to feel nostalgic.  Remember when we would enter into a season with realistic aspirations of winning a conference tournament or somehow reaching the postseason?  Yes my friends, those were the days when I would be screaming "What the Fuck" at the top of my lungs over a schedule like this one.  It would negatively impact our RPI (not NET since we haven't had this dilemma since the NET was invented) and subsequently, our chances for making the dance, or what our seed would be.

How times have changed.  Two friends have called me today to ask my opinion regarding the schedule.  Allow me to sum it up with the following clip.  Enjoy.

Of course this is from Meatballs.  A very underappreciated comedy IMO.

Re: 2022-23 Schedule

Students would actually chant that as games (and losses, pardon the redundancy) wound down during the 1-27 season.

Re: 2022-23 Schedule

Very interesting how our conference schedule breaks.  This is neither a prediction nor is it likely to happen, but GW could begin conference play 0-6, followed by a 10 game winning streak, and then losing the final 2 to go 10-8.  Again, not likely to happen, but my point is that GW's very toughest games occur during the beginning and end of the conference season.

So do I make 18 individual bets or one 18 game parlay?

Re: 2022-23 Schedule

Good find by BM.
What a great draw.
Guessing we have given up on the prospect of postseason play this year, which may be realistic, even if disheartening.
At least this is a Division 1 team, unlike the first non-exhibition game of the season.
But overall, seems like a nonconference schedule, a nearby, long-ago evil rival would have come up with.

If you didn’t listen to it live, listen to CC’s WRGW interview when it’s available. There’s a method to this scheduling madness. Long story short, teams should try to go .700 in OOC play with a majority of games being at home. That is an at large bid benchmark and/or something that helps the A-10 as a whole.  This is a schedule that should get us to that mark.

Re: 2022-23 Schedule

OOC is very weak but I'm actually in favor of it. Lets try and get some wins, build confidence in the staff/system and see where it takes us

Re: 2022-23 Schedule

I would likewise take a bloated record against a wek OOC schedule at this point, especially if we are respectable (at least 500() in conference.  Maybe next season I can worry about whether our OOC schedule is impacting our post season invitations, but for this season, I would just like to demonstrate that we have again become a winning program.    It has to be easier to recruit at 19-12 than it is at 12-19.

Re: 2022-23 Schedule

GW has so far to go before the schedule matters. I don’t know all the schemes they could run; however until they play consistent team defense against even the weakest teams this team will continue to live the land of nowhere.
