Arenas where you saw GW Play
I graduated from GW in 1972 and moved to Los Angeles in 1974. While I went back east to many A-10 tournaments from 1990 to 2016 and once to the Smith Center ( I actually went back to see two games but one was the only game ever snowed out at the Smith Center) in the 1980s I have never seen GW play in many locations local to DC while I was in DC.
I was curious how many different locations people on this board can come up with where they saw GW in person. Here is my list: Feel free to add which arenas you have been to that are not on this list. Can we get to 60? 75? 100?

Since we graduated in the same year I bet we went to a lot of games together. I was based in Madison Hall. You may have also gone to Maryland when our great freshman team played their freshman team. Pat Tallent etc. Of all your games the ones I didn't go to was any in Philly or Barclay. Of course I was in Nashville and Greensborough for the NCAA. I will never forget going to Catholic and Ronnie Nunn saying to us in jest "CU later". Then we proceeded to lose that game. Ugh! But stealing the Drum at McDonough was for our final game was great.

Not in Philly. But I also remember going to West Virginia for an A10 tourney and Rutgers. In felt like WVU had the best arena for basketball I ever saw. Nice seats all around. The Mountaineer shooting off the musket was a real blast.

Not bad considering how rarely I am in the US during basketball season. Would love to add-- Pauley (UCLA), Hinkle (Butler, but yeah we know how that went), Phoenix stadium (home of the 2024 Final Four, but yeah we know how that is going to go) and the gyms at either Tulane or UNO (because a road trip to New Orleans is always fun!).

I haven't traveled to an away game in a few years, so this thread is bringing up some fond memories of east coast road trips with friends, and family vacations planned around road game schedules. With the addition of Loyola Chicago, I'm looking forward to planning a trip there to see GW play.

I must be old, the only opposing school gym I ever saw GW play was at McDonough. I know this subject has been beat to death but its been 43 years! What is wrong with those people at Georgetown? They are close enough the team could easily walk there. I think the only closer Div 1 schools are Penn and Drexel.

Reminded me that I also saw GW play Georgetown at the Capital Centre,

Forgot Loyola of Maryland. I was likewise. At Jarvis’ first game. A loss. I was calling for him to be fired.

AT Hiker, what about the tournament at Naples, Florida?
Offline
Good catch, LA Colonial! There were at most about 20 GW fans there in a high school gym.
Offline
AT Hiker? What parts of the AT? I didn;t really hike much in the AT's till I went to Tennessee. Then after spending a lot of time in NC, GA, TN I finally did the AT in New Jersey. Most people have no idea the AT is in NJ.
Offline
I hiked the entire trail in 1978 and didn't think much about GW basketball that spring and summer! Those were the gray days of Coach Sloan.

Great job AT! I roamed Cherokee National Forest, GSMNP, and Joyce Kilmer from 1974-1981. Who knows, maybe I met you in one of the shelters on the AT in '78. Many fellow backpackers favored Cherokee because it was less crowded and you could set up anywhere. Joyce Kilmer was a favorite because it was never logged. Many times when I was leaving GSMNP I use to give AT Through Hikers what I had left in my food pack like GORP, Yorgurt covered Almonds, various juices, etc. They were very happy to get the treats. One guy was willing to give up his girlfriend hiker for other stuff I had. 78 was a good year.
