La Salle is getting 18.5 at VCU tonight. IMO don't think VCU will cover.

OOC opponent North Carolina A&T (along with Eastern Michigan and Mississippi Valley State, who finally won their first D1 game the other day against Arkansas Pine Bluff) are being investigated for game-fixing.
I think of GW's OOC opponents, A&T has probably underperformed the most given how they played the Revs earlier in the year. The Aggies are currently 0-10 in the CAA, which is a bit surprising to me since I thought their guards were decent.

This underbelly of college and pro hoops along with proven ref involvement lowers the credibility of the game. The action is on the betting websites, not on the court. Pros are almost unwatchable and college a close second. Spare me the 30 foot brick, but give me a prop bet on the coin toss and a 3 million NIL deal - now that’s fun.

Ironically, NIL has probably served one useful purpose. It has probably kept the fixers away from college athletes at the larger schools. Before, if a kid needed money and he wasn't receiving NIL, he might be much more receptive to gambling overtures. Now when you are making 6 or maybe even 7 figures legitimately, you aren't going to risk that nor do you need the money. So I would expect this issue to be pushed to the lower majors where NIL payments are non-existent or very little. Now that gambling is legal most everywhere, it doesn't matter to the fixers what games they affect because there is enough money to be made from any game now. Therefore, it is not surprising that these were the schools involved.

Agree. And it's unfortunate that the schools involved may promote stereotypes about HBCUs generally.
Charlie Baker has started lobbying states to remove college props altogether and some states have done this already. MD is one for sure. One half-measure would be to ban unders as that is the easiest way to manipulate the game (like a player going out early with an injury or choosing to not shoot good shots if the total under is close to going over).

I do agree with Rising's premise but compare the two spreads that were mentioned in the article. The UAB first half line against Temple jumped from - 1 1/2 points to - 8 points. Yeah, that's an awful lot of first half betting. The other example showed Delaware's -2 first half line against NC A&T move to - 3 1/2 while the game line stayed at -4 1/2. A 1 1/2 point line move does not normally correlate to a ton of betting. The first half bets must have been demonstrably more than the game bets, since the game line stayed as is. I guess it's a bad look to have a larger spread on a first half line than an entire game line. Then again, NC A&T trailed GW by 11 at the half but only lost the game by 5. So maybe they are just slow starters, period.

Yes, that would be most unfortunate regarding HBCU's. To me, it was more about the existence or absence of NIL money rather than the particular school involved. But I can see how people might twist involvement of HBCU's.
The other variable here is the refs. Much easier to influence games through the refs than players.
I think the further the relevant authorities dig, the more we are not going to like what they discover.

As the great Warner Wolf used to say: If you had La Salle plus 29, you still lost!

20-3 St Johns beats Marquette
What a turnaround under Pitino
Offline
Not too worried about Marquette after that performance. Those two teams each played like Elite 8 type teams. Decided free throw advantage for the Johnnies but that's to be expected at MSG now that Pitino has them extremely competitive once again. Very enjoyable game to watch; played at a very high level.

Dude is on to Pitino since "America's Greatest Coach" is now mired in 3rd place of the WCC and Hurley isn't dominating anymore. Moving right along lol.

Rising, it's that (he moved on) or he posts so much he's forgetting to switch his many monikers! Lol.

3rd straight Quad 1 win for Rick Pitino and the revitalized St Johns program
21-3 on the season, what a turnaround, took decades to happen but only a year for Pitino

Um maybe we all should wear fire suits next Wednesday. VCU closed HARD at Dayton to win by the biggest 5 point margin I’ve seen in awhile.

Did anyone catch the George Mason @ SLU game last night. SLU got hosed!!! They were down 1 after a great comeback with 12 seconds to go. Mason stepped on the inbounds line for the second time in 30 seconds but the refs missed the second one. Replay clearly showed Mason had foot on line while inbounding but Mason kept possession, got fouled, made both FT's. Down 3, Swope hits a 34 footer to send it to OT where Mason won.
In this day and age where the goal of "review" is to get calls (or no calls) correct, why with 12 seconds left wasn't it reviewable. I absolutely believe that if the announcers can get it right, the refs should. We see it time after time in the NFL and other sports. Just get it right!!!
I'm heading to the SLU student body comments...should be priceless.

My belief in general is that in all sports, whoever determined what can be reviewed/overturned and what may not be had to be drunk off of their ass/asses when reaching these decisions . That's how arbitrary this all appears to be.

Loyola getting some serious home cooking to beat Dayton. In the last two minutes, there was a rip through foul on a three where they only gave Dayton two shots (called it a non shooting foul), then they fouled Santos out for basically nothing
And with 5 seconds left, Dayton tied up Loyola in the backcourt cleanly and they called a foul (absolutely terrible call - they had all ball.)
Hopefully Loyola doesn’t get calls like that against us Wednesday and hopefully they have a letdown after the big win.

Villanova will be a job opening in the offseason for sure. Jeckle and Hyde team. They have blown double digit leads several times in the final moments of games. Show their talent in wins over the top of the Conference including Marquette last night but then lose inexplicably
They have a new AD with no connection to Jay Wright - which is how Neptune got the job.

Right now Mason is +11.5 against VCU. How can that be?
Offline
Watching VCU brick or airball open three after open three is so frustrating. If they shot like this, we would have blown them out. Or even if they had an average shooting day.
They are 2-13 from three and 4-20 from the field (but only down 3 because Mason can’t score either).
