Outside of DBJ and Drumgoole no one played particularly well. 5 bench points? Jacoi was once again invisible?
Get ready for a long couple of months.

I don’t care what anyone says. To me, that’s a scheduling loss right there.

Gonna pour myself a nice cold one and sit back and enjoy watching the glass half full crew tell us all that there were a lot of positives here to take away.

I really think if we would’ve played a tougher non-con Darren would’ve been better prepared to not shoot a bad three and drive wildly to the basket.

Let´s get this out of the way:
The team was much better in the 2nd and Drumgoole had a fantastic second half.
HOWEVER, those final 60 seconds was one of the WORST MANAGED periods in GW basketball history. What was that offensive set run when down one with 24 seconds to go?!?!?!? Why was the time out left unused Chicago Bears style until it was way too late? Anyone who thought Miami (Fla) might be giving CC a call might want to think again.
GW had its moments today against a fellow A10 bottom feeder, and lost. Not making plans for a long weekend at the conference tournament.

Jacoi has just been nonexistent these last few games. Surely he's not still feeling the impacts of his ankle injury from November... Also wish CC used the timeout either when we were down 1 or down 3. Can't take them with you. This team will not make any noise in the A10 if they play like that. Only reason they were in the game was because of a career performance from Drumgoole

No. It's a coaching loss. 13 point lead in the second half blown to bits. Why is our 6'11" center playing on the perimeter? First halves are a waste of time for this team. And no, we wouldn't be better off having gotten blown out by playing tougher OOC opponents.

Is there a worse last 2:00 coach than CC? First AU and now this debacle against Richmond. I don't know what to say.

No idea? As far back as Hobbs (was Lonergan different?) GW has tried to close out games based on athleticism, instead of using team work or even a 2-man game with little success

A good coach does not lose this game. The open door to Miami has been shut.

What is the over/under on number of A10 wins? I had hopes of finishing at least .500 in A10. Richmond is a very poor team (but well-coached). If not for Drumgoole having a career second half, we lose by 15. The last 5 minutes were tough to watch. Don't really see player development....

Bad, bad loss. GW could conceivably start A10 play 0-5 if they don't wake up from the jump... UR's offense was literally just give the ball to Neskovic or Hunt and hope they draw contact and GW couldn't stop it.
Even against the weak schedule, the painful lack of creativity on offense was apparent. For this team, it's either Jun running into a bunch of defenders down low or hope that Gerald knocks down his threes. As gwstudent2024 mentioned above, the fact that Gerald was making his threes and GW still lost is a troubling sign moving forward. Also agree with moneybox - too much time with Rafael and Jun hanging around the perimeter instead of being close to the hoop. This team made just eight two point FGs all game against a below average defense. Nine points scored in the final nine minutes of the game. Let that sink in.
If Jun is taking five threes, that's a major success for the opposition. Jun did get the ball in different areas this game, but CC seems unable to get him quality shots off the ball consistently (that one play late in the first half against Kansas State where he cut to the hoop seems like an anomaly). Continuing to rely on Jun getting a friendly whistle taking it to the hoop needs to be emphasized less. Just 2 FT attempts today despite 15 FG attempts. Every opponent is ready for this.
My assessment following OOC play remains unchanged. There's simply no guard on this roster that can dynamically create their shot consistently which majorly caps the ceiling - even to the level that Hunt on Richmond can. Trey Moss is the closest, but he doesn't do it consistently (although had a decent game overall). If Autry isn't making threes, CC isn't going to play him. Jacoi is sadly the biggest disappointment this year - he's not particularly great going to the rim and has missed nine straight threes in the past three games and because this offense is so uncreative we haven't got to see his passing ability either. CJ had moments but some freshman mistakes pushing in transition. Dayan should have played more.
The two best plays were out of a timeout, when Rafael had that dunk from Jacoi and Hansen finding Gerald for a layup with a minute to go. As others have mentioned, Castro needs to be involved way more. He had zero attempts before halftime! He may not be a guy who can post up like other bigs but he's being treated like he's Akingbola and that's a problem. Last year's team was a good shooting one which could overcome no production at the 5 but this team does not have that luxury on a consistent basis.

I usually like to stay as positive as possible. This game is making that very difficult, there really isn't a positive to take away from this. I thought we started off pretty strong with some very active defense and decent offense. Then all of a sudden we just could not score?! The quite frankly horrific decision-making all around did not help this, I'm not sure how many times we tried to force passes for no good reason that either got picked off or ended up in the bleachers. I'm very concerned the only reason we were even in the game was Gerald making ~4 circus shots. At times the offense looked lost, with the entire team standing still behind the three-point line while someone plays 1v1. I don't really know much about basketball tactics so this is my uninformed opinion but I can't fathom why we were not working the ball inside to Jun and Castro more and instead settled for contested threes from players who are shooting ~20% from behind the arc, especially when we were up by ten and just needed to burn clock and get some easy points.
I don't like to overreact much to one game because if we win on Saturday this will all be forgotten, but there are serious issues here and we had 9 days to prepare. I was very disappointed and my patience for showing improvement is starting to run thin

How does a team go from down 29-21 at half, and get on a 31-10 run to be up 52-39 and never really being in control? It’s a leadership thing along with a team personality issue.

Had to go when we were up near the end of regulation. We lost?! WTF Horrible. Didn't they have a big lead? And they blew it to Richmond? Well, this coach is not doing a very good job. Where did he coach before Miami? And did he win? Will we win another game? Sad.

As for Buchanan, I don't think Caputo ever tells him not to do something--like shoot threes!

Nothing short of a total start-to-finish blowout of Dayton on Saturday will wash away the rancid dregs of last night's defeat to the A-10's second worst team after leading by 13 with under 10 minutes to play. There can be no positive team takeaways from last night's debacle. Drumgoole's unbelievable second half 3-pt shooting was a strictly individual career anomaly never to be replicated.

Don't know why this happens, but obviously we tend to start poorly, comeback--and then give up our lead.
It worked largely with teams on our worst or 2nd to worst schedule in the nation because of the talent disparity. But a smart team like AU or well-coached one like Richmond will have different results.
The Dayton game may not be pretty, according to the odds. Or it's at least possible that maybe somehow we will be incredibly motivated and Dayton will look past us.
We wasted Gerald's performance to will us to victory yesterday.
So at some point, let's just at least hope for smarter and better play and clock
management in the New Year.
In the meantime, Happy New Year to all in the Colonials/Revs orbit!

Yes, this was sad. Where did CC coach before? He was only an "Assistant" Coach on Jim Larranaga's staff at Miami & George Mason. I don't know what his responsibilities were but it would seem that in-game strategy was someone else's job. Today's mishandling of game strategy was NOT his first. The current AD will be able to find a better coach going forward. Will it be someone on the level of Mike Jarvis or the UConn connected Karl Hobbs? I doubt it.
