Kam Craft is off to Georgia Tech.

Sad. I guess the NW transfer is the fallback option. Didn't this also happen to Yacine Toumi a few years back? There were definitely others.

Yup. GW admissions - the gift that keeps on giving (or in this case taking away). It has happened at least 5-6 times that I know of since 2016 where kids have gone on, played, and graduated from other institutions - making GW look foolish. But GW solved a problem that didn't exist I guess.

Re: 2025 Portal Info

I'd like to believe that this young man's intellect is so far below what will be required to keep up academically at GW, but the reality is this player played D1 last year and will play elsewhere in D1 this year.  Like 4 year graduate Omar Williams, this young man would likely have been fine.

If you don't like Chris Caputo and his staff, this is a good way to get them to polish off their resumes.

The joke of course is that all of the things that everyone should want are things we've seen before.  Do you recall the respective Jarvis and Hobbs bumps?  A successful men's basketball program leads to increased attendance and subsequent revenue.  Appearances in the NCAA tournament leads to greater publicity for the school which leads to increased applications which leads to a higher academic standing because the school can be more selective regarding the acceptance of students.  This leads to a better group of professors on the whole (since they want to teach smarter students) who conduct more meaningful research and publishes more impactful articles that may be successfully attributed to GW.

So, am I really saying that GW does not get all of this because it denied admission to one potentially great basketball player?  Well, yes, that's where it starts.

Re: 2025 Portal Info

Brutal news.  And really screws us because I’m assuming the money we had committed could have been used on any number of other players who probably committed elsewhere while this dragged on.  Now we’re scrambling to figure out a plan (I’m assuming).

Re: 2025 Portal Info

Stuff happens, I get it, but this is so deflating because it is self-inflicted. Like Rising said, Dembele will play at another school in 6 months with no problem at all, so it's not like this is an unsolvable problem for schools across the country. I don't understand who this more stringent approach to admissions even serves. Who was going to be upset if the admissions office fudged the numbers a bit to make this work? All this does is piss off a dwindling fanbase, and, at least partially, drive a wedge between the university and a coaching staff that has shown enough promise that I'd like them to stick around. If I were CC, I'd be livid.

I'm positive this whole process is much more complicated than I am giving it credit for, but this is still ridiculous and unacceptable.

Re: 2025 Portal Info

Talk about a kick in the cojones.  I strongly suspect there is a plan b.  I thought the administration was on board with supporting the team.

Re: 2025 Portal Info

If true…. What the hell is going in?  I thought we were done with this type of BS. They sure pride themselves on good “support” hoops messaging.

Everyone else has said what I was thinking. Just adding my frustration, disappointment, and empathy for CC and his team.

Re: 2025 Portal Info

Apparently Drumgoole is in the portal again, even though he doesn't have any eligibility left. Seems like hundreds of players are trying to find a way to cash in and get an additional year.

If player eligibility becomes unlimited, the sport is officially cooked. I know they're trying to overturn the limits in the courts right now. Really hope that doesn't happen.

They are all banking on the courts. God help us.

Re: 2025 Portal Info

Odd about Drumgoole. Assume he told us?  Not that we would be necessarily interested. Hope we have
better as a starter.
Maybe, if he somehow finds a way (how many schools for him?), he'll be a better consistent
shooter somewhere else.
Gerald only played one game in mid-career, according to ESPN, but has played in six college
seasons. Brayon Freeman may be calling for advice.
For $$$$, it's actually a better deal to stay in college. More secure.
Speaking of former Colonials, didn't Bamisile's lawsuit helped set off the unlimited transfer madness?

Re: 2025 Portal Info

Should that be the case, they should just do away with the entire charade of "student athlete", or whatever is still remaining.   Just have professional teams representing colleges and universities.  No academic requirements, no scholarships, no classes.  Just have them sign a contract for any length of time to play at an agreed salary.  If you are a wash out in the NBA, just return to a college, as someone will be willing to pay you.

Edwards is a 6-foot-5 guard out of Samford, Connecticut who began his career at George Washington before playing one season at Duquesne.

Averaged 8.3PPG, 3.6RPG and 1.1APG this season.

Re: 2025 Portal Info

Agree with Long Suffering Fan. Again when was the last time you heard that a player was academically ineligible to play? After all, when kids attend 4 or 5 different schools in a short period of time, how can we expect them to pass all of their classes. We can't and apparently it doesn't matter.  When I was at GW undergrad and law school, I had enough trouble keeping my grades up at a single school. These kids change schools, professors, classes, dorm rooms like we change socks. This system is broken and it's certainly not going to get better.

The only surprise about this is what took so long for Max to enter the portal.   After leaving GW, I couldn’t imagine Max staying at Duquesne to come off the bench .

Re: 2025 Portal Info

As in the past, I will add Max to the “oh by the way, what is he up to these days.”  Kethan Savage is now 31 years old and has bounced around the G league for years.  Paul Jorgensen is 28 and playing in Spain.  Average salary in G league is $45K unless you get 2 way. Average in Spain pro league A is $250K to $500K.  Obviously they didn’t depend on their diplomas for their current careers.
I often wonder where these young men get their guidance.  Coaches can be important mentors and so can a parent.  If life after basketball ever enters the dialogue, then a course of study and getting a degree would mean something.  I guess NIL money and dreams of the NBA negate the education part of it.
I give Coach Caputo credit in his efforts to assemble a group of humble, mature, team first players in these most challenging times where education is low on the list of priorities.
