To those with interest on this topic, I would recommend "Losing Big: America's Reckless Bet On Sports Gambling" by Jonathan Cohen. The genie is out of the bottle thanks largely to state governments who were for the most part running at deficits and saw gambling tax revenue as "found money" which it desperately needed. I worry for my kids' generation in general where it's never been easier to place bets and so many will end up being in denial of a gambling addiction which is a very real thing. Making things absurdly worse are the MGM's and Draft Kings of this world who can identify poor gamblers willing to risk high stakes and do everything short of coercing these individuals to place bets (offering many perks as an inducement for doing so). I predict that within the next 5-20 years, this is going to be a huge societal problem. Athletes getting in on the act? Not the least bit surprising, quite sadly.

The only silver lining is that it appears as though the suspicious activity tools worked and the players were caught fairly quickly.
But agree with the rest that ubiquitous gambling from our phones is not good for society. Too bad we couldn’t have legalized sports betting nationwide but only at brick and mortar casinos.

Fresno is an unserious basketball program. They hired a near 70 year old coach last season who was out of the college game for over a decade. He is clearly not a long term option and was 14-35 in two forgettable years at Pepperdine. Unsurprisingly, they went 6-26. Even after kicking multiple players off the team for betting they still brought back a guy who was convicted in a deadly car crash in Las Vegas. They're an easy pick to be terrible in the Mountain West again.
