Re: A10 Media Day 2025

If we really have 4 all conference players, ain’t no way we’re finishing 4th.

But I do appreciate that we’re being underrated by the A10 media again. I would take the over in 4th (as in we finish top 3).

Maybe this will move our Vegas odds to be more favorable.

Re: A10 Media Day 2025

Underrated by the A10 media?  For finishing in 4th place?

I fully understand that we should be better this season, but the last time GW finished in 4th place or better in the A10 was during the 2006-07 season when it came in 3rd and then won the A10 Tournament.

Since I raised the question, allow me to state that I truly hope that hype is a good thing.

Guess we’ll find out if I’m right.  I suspect it’s more about overrating Dayton (and maybe SLU) than underrating us.

Would rather be underrated and hungry than overconfident.

Re: A10 Media Day 2025

Best Case: Regular season Champs.
Base Case finish somewhere between 3-5
Worst Case 6-8

Agree with Mayhem that picking us 4th is not underrating us pre-season in the slightest. Yes, we have more talent but talent doesn't win games alone. The trick is going to be chemistry with a lot of new parts coming from different programs and cultures. I think CC can get it done but it is not an easy task in this era of transfers and NIL. That has truly become the underrated part of coaching right now and perhaps as or more important as having enough talent. We have to see how it all comes together.

Re: A10 Media Day 2025

Enjoyed the Field of 68 interview.

The big takeaway for me isn’t what they said, but rather how they said it. There is a certain amount of bravado and media-speak optimism you normally get in these kind of preseason interviews, but this one seemed realistic.

Both Coach Caputo and Castro were clearly not being hyperbolic or exaggerating the team’s potential.  Rafael spoke of his loyalty and commitment, which we’ve heard before from him, and I sense that attitude probably has spread across the program. I’m not naïve about the financial benefits, but it’s clear that the players want to be here.

Can’t wait for the season to start!

Re: A10 Media Day 2025

Well stated BGF.  John Fanta (co-hosting with Rob Dauster) was practically taken aback by Slim's response to why he stayed.  To paraphrase, he said something to the effect of that he could not find it in his heart to leave a program that gave him the opportunity he was given (after two seasons of largely riding the bench at Providence.)  CC fondly referenced how GW was a top-tier A10 team for around 25 years and spoke of this year's team more within the context of being the team that leads the program back to that level of prominence as opposed to any specific goals for this season.  Both were very impressive.

Re: A10 Media Day 2025

Interesting note from CC during the press conference.  He was talking about Tre Dinkins and how he wanted to recruit him when he entered the portal after leaving Canisius but was not allowed to because he only had one year of undergraduate work remaining.  (CC remarked that some schools would have been allowed to recruit him but GW is not one of those schools.)  When Tre became a graduate student and re-entered the portal, he was fair game for GW.

Is this something new at GW?  Maybe not as the experienced transfers I can recall coming to GW were all graduate students (or redshirt juniors or younger).  Mitola, Steeves, Ziegler, Moyer, Hansen, Hunger..all grad students at GW.  Have we never welcomed a transfer who was an undergraduate with one year of eligibility remaining?

Re: A10 Media Day 2025

I wondered the exact same thing. The more I thought about it, I wonder if GW, academically, allows transfers who need less than 30 credit credits more to graduate.

Is it possible that the university won’t accept more than “x” number of credits for transfers?

Re: A10 Media Day 2025

I think GW wants a minimum number of undergrad credits to take place here before conferring an undergrad degree.

Which is why one year grad transfers are ok.

Re: A10 Media Day 2025

I agree with Free Quebec that we deserve to be predicted to finish higher than 4th, especially given the prediction we will have 4 players on the first, second and third all A-10 teams. And we have four high quality players returning, more than any other A-10 team. Go, Revs!

Makes sense.  Likely true of the entire GW student population.  The school doesn't want anyone to receive an undergraduate degree who has only spent a single year on campus.  You might think that revenue-generating athletes might be an exception to this rule, but apparently not at GW.

On a separate note, in a sign of the times, 8 of the 18 1st, 2nd or 3rd All A10 team members are transfers.  This includes 7 that are brand new to their schools and 1 who sat out last year.
