2025 KenPom Preseason Rankings

KenPom rankings are out! GW is #81 overall, with a #53 rank in offensive efficiency, #115 rank in defensive efficiency, and a tempo rank of #135. I'd expect the pace to be slightly higher given the composition of the team but I get that it's influenced partly by last season's slowdown.

A10 teams:
#54 Dayton (Off: #67, Def: #37, Pace: #314)
#60 VCU (Off: #97, Def: #24, Pace: #10)
#65 Saint Louis (Off: #68, Def: #64, Pace: #105)
#81 George Washington (Off: #53, Def: #115, Pace: #135)
#91 George Mason (Off: #103, Def: #78, Pace: #338)
#99 Loyola Chicago (Off: #107, Def: #96, Pace: #212)
#109 Saint Joseph's (Off: #143, Def: #90, Pace: #205)
#110 Duquesne (Off: #141, Def: #95, Pace: #298)
#112 Rhode Island (Off: #121, Def: #110, Pace: #59)
#119 Richmond (Off: #116, Def: #125, Pace: #335)
#122 St. Bonaventure (Off: #136, Def: #118, Pace: #331)
#150 Davidson (Off: #144, Def: #169, Pace: #285)
#182 Fordham (Off: #171, Def: #220, Pace: #184)
#201 La Salle (Off: #192, Def: #212, Pace: #351)

OOC Opponents:
#284 Maine (Off: #342, Def: #162, Pace: #278)
#104 South Florida (Off: #109, Def: #102, Pace: #69)
#312 American (Off: #310, Def: #291, Pace: #358)
#184 Old Dominion (Off: #164, Def: #235, Pace: #259)
#296 UMBC (Off: #223, Def: #343, Pace: #30)
#101 McNeese (Off: #106, Def: #98, Pace: #227)
#159 Middle Tennessee (Off: #183, Def: #143, Pace: #137)
#134 Murray St. (Off: #132, Def: #152, Pace: #249)
#347 Army (Off: #344, Def: #338, Pace: #234)
#231 William & Mary (Off: #167, Def: #308, Pace: #15)
#216 Delaware (Off: #182, Def: #257, Pace: #67)
#2 Florida (Off: #3, Def: #6, Pace: #37)

Other Notables:
Houston begins the year as the top team.
- MVSU as the bottom team.
- D1 newcomer New Haven is #360.
- UMass is #196 which is only good for 7th in the MAC (also that 42-6 football loss to Kent State yesterday...yikes).
- Georgetown is right below GW at #82.
- Jamion's first Bryant squad debuts at #291
- Maryland is #34, while Virginia is #59. Both squads have new coaches. Howard is #308.

Re: 2025 KenPom Preseason Rankings

Fun with numbers...I recognize that this is all meaningless in October, that's why I say "fun" with numbers.  KenPom predicts us with a 21-10 record, including 11-7 in conference.   It has us favored in the first 11 games in the OOC, before making us huge underdogs to Florida.   In fact, we are favored to win all of our OOC other than Florida, with the only games in which we have less than 60% chance of winning being South Florida (59%) and McNeese (58%).   The only OOC top 200 teams we play are Florida (2); South Florida (104); ODU (184); McNeese (101); Middle Tennessee (199) and Murray State (134).  American (312) and Army (347) are the only sub 300 teams in the OOC.  Overall, it appears to be an upgrade (at least slight) over our schedules from the past few years. Overall, the A-10 is ranked as 7th best conference, significantly ahead of American Athletic Conference at #8 but significantly behind Mountain West conference at #6.

Thanks!

And who said Saturday's exhibition game is just another meaningless matchup?

Re: 2025 KenPom Preseason Rankings

The A10 appears to be stronger collectively with a lot of teams bunch closely together, GW an eye opening 4th, but really 4-11 bunched tightly and an impressive 11 programs inside the top 122.

2 Time National Champion Danny Hurley and UCONN #5, 2  Time National Chamionship Game Mark Few and Gonzaga #8

Blue Blood North Carolina #33, hot seat year for Hubert Davis with a 1st round exit and a declined NIT season in the last 3 years.

Re: 2025 KenPom Preseason Rankings

I don't know Mark Few personally, but I can't help but think that if he was reading this board, he would say the following:

"Please, under no circumstances should anyone ever refer to me as 2 Time National Championship Game Mark Few."
