GW @ Georgetown Game

On Friday evening, GW travels to Georgetown to take on the Hoyas at McDonough Arena. The Hoyas, picked to finish 7th in the Big East, comes into the contest at 2-2. The victories came at home against Stonehill and Sacred Heart. Their losses both came on the road-- 85-66 to Maryland, and a 61-54 loss to George Mason that went into overtime. GW and GU last met in the 2021-22 season, when the Hoyas defeated GW 68-63 at McDonough. Their best player so far this year has been Khia Miller, whose 13.5 ppg leads the team. Four other players, led by Laila Jewett’s 10.3 ppg, average more than 8 ppg. Additionally, 6’4” center Cristen Carter (7.8 ppg and 8.3 rpg) is likely to present GW’s front court with a significant challenge.

GW, still lacking consistent chemistry on the offensive side, comes into this matchup a work-in-progress-- looking to optimize the rotations and avoid the 2nd quarter break downs that plagued the team in two of their losses. The Revs lost the 2nd period by a 27-9 margin in Monday’s game against Longwood, but rallied in the 2nd half to outplay the Lancers. GW, with good help from the front court, handled the press effectively, slowing down Longwood’s offensive attack and enabling a more productive GW offense. A lot of players are getting meaningful minutes, which is great in the long run, especially for the younger players. The Revs’ best scorers (Phiri and Sims) are playing under control and taking good shots, but need to increase their volume. The team is shooting at a respectable 42% for the season and that can improve with more time together in game situations.

Home court advantage and more experience gives Georgetown the edge in this matchup. Hopefully Reynolds can play, and if the Revs can limit the turnovers and prevent any lopsided quarters, they can make a game out of this.
