This could be a real impact pickup if Arceneaux's health holds up. He has played 70 games since his achilles injury after his sophomore year at Houston, so there's reason to believe that he has moved past that ailment. He played in a methodical system at Houston, and I think a more uptempo system should benefit him. While it's true that he played on a fast NC State team under Wade last season, I got the sense that his role was never well defined with the Wolfpack. I haven't dug into the full history, but Arceneaux may be the highest rated HS recruit to play at GW (he was the #31 ranked player in his class per 247Sports). He may also be the only player to play in Foggy Bottom that appeared in an NCAA championship game (during his third year at Houston). Perhaps the most important is that Arceneaux has played on winning teams, something GW could use more of. That brings a certain winning mentality that's a boost to any team.
Arceneaux will definitely boost the defense, which is something the Revs certainly need after this past year. The Texas native ranked eighth in steal percentage during ACC play, and over his career he's had the knack for getting quite a few dunks in transition. Arceneaux had a +1.35 DBPR at NC State on EvanMiya, which was fourth best on the team. On the Houston team that made the NCAA championship game, he had a +3.8 DBPR which was third best on a Houston team that was #1 in defensive efficiency on KenPom. He's an elite defender that CC can put on the other team's best guard/wing.
Offensively, Arceneaux is a solid player as well. He is primarily a slasher on offense but in his last two years between Houston and NC State he has shown the ability to make the open three (33% on about two attempts per game). The question is how he fits in CC's scheme on this end. Arceneaux has taken, and made tough midrange jumpers that CC wouldn't approve. One thing that is certainly encouraging is that his FT% has continued to increase every year of college, and last year it was at 77%. I also think Arceneaux has been a pretty good rebounder in his time on the floor, which will hopefully continue GW's emphasis in that area from this season.
It's actually wild that Arceneaux came to GW, because I remember watching his HS highlights when he was being recruited by Ryan Devlin in the JC era (back when I was deep in the weeds with all the twitter/instagram follows lol). At the time, I knew he wasn't coming to GW given his talent but the talent certainly popped out. Funnily enough, he did face Aranguren back in his junior year. UH blew Hofstra out by 36. Arceneaux had 12 points in that game on 5/7 shooting, while Jean had a tough night - going scoreless on five attempts from the field.
Looking forward to seeing Terrance in Buff & Blue in the fall!
