Kobe Webster to Nebraska to play for a coach who goes to work sick during the outbreak.   Scratch him off the list.

Also saw this tweet with notable transfers.

They are cornering the market in transferring Kobe’s. First Kobe King from Wisconsin and now Kobe Webster.

Re: Transfer Season 2020

Expect at least one or two more names to surface in the coming days. Don't think there will be any surprises. In the end, I believe that at least 3 and possibly 4 current players will graduate/transfer (one of which is Mezie).

Not technically a transfer but I know we had interest earlier:

“Josiah Freeman has backed off his commitment to Buffalo. One of the better shot makers available in the 2020 class”

Marfo is leaving Quinnipiac. Some program is about to get a boost on the glass.

Re: Transfer Season 2020

On the other hand, he left GW for one of the smallest programs in D1, sat a year, then a 3rd year Soph, at Quinnipiac, had 5 pts and 7 boards.
This year he played more and got a ton of rebounds, the guy can no doubt board.

Can he score though against good comp? Teams are looking to stretch the court, space the floor. In 3 years he has not made a 3 point shot.

Re: Transfer Season 2020

If you look at the replies under Marfo's tweet about transferring, you'll see a bunch of responses from BCS fans(Georgetown, Providence, Boston College, Arkansas, Rutgers, Illinois, Ole Miss, Maryland, Cincinnati, and more) wanting him to join them in 2020-2021. I'm assuming he'll be one of the most sought after transfer targets because he's an elite rebounder and can play immediately. I know Marfo will end up at a BCS school, but I'm really interested to see if he can still be a double-digit rebounder in the SEC/Big East/ACC/Big 10. Since there are no games being played now(today was supposed to be Selection Sunday), Marfo's decision to transfer may be the top story in college basketball.

Someone in another thread mentioned that GW now has 1 open scholarship(not at the limit) with Mezie transferring out. If 2 or 3 other GW players leave, GW could really make some noise in the 2020 transfer market. I'm still waiting on Ricky Lindo and Brandon Slater to show up in the transfer portal!!!

Re: Transfer Season 2020

Looking at his KenPom stats, Marfo's defensive rebounding rate didn't change much when playing against A+B level teams (code for better teams), but his offensive rebounding rate went down dramatically.  This could be because of game-planning (e.g., getting back on defense when the shot goes up against better teams), but I'd guess better athletes on the other team had a lot to do with it.

Re: Transfer Season 2020

Well, he and Mezie were not given playing time.

Best of luck in the future Arnaldo, we loved having you on the court.  Will definitely follow you next year.

Re: Transfer Season 2020

Good luck to AT! He stayed true to the buff and blue through multiple coaching changes, and I can't imagine how hard it was to mentally get back into the swing of things after the hip injury last year (in addition to a few setbacks during this season). He will always be a Colonial, and congrats to him on getting the degree! He'll be in good shape for the future after his basketball career completes. Will be rooting for him the rest of his career. Anyways, I wouldn't be surprised if there were another 1 or 2 transfers out truthfully.

Re: Transfer Season 2020

Isaac White is a good player and a great shooter.  He’d be a tremendous get for us even though our biggest need is PG.  I would bet he stays BCS though.

Ryan Murphy is an intriguing one year name for our system because he’s a great shooter and capable enough at other things. Not sure if a one year shooter is what we need, though.

On Marfo, those BCS fans just see the rebounding numbers. I think he’s too one dimensional for a team with serious ncaa aspirations, unless he’s ok as a very defined role player off the bench.

Re: Transfer Season 2020

I heard Adam Kilgore is about to break out with a big story on the number of transfers out of GW in the last 2 years!

Next year will tell us a lot about JC and his ability to steer this ship back in the right direction. I'm not really excited about the quality of next year's class. I remember ML once saying that for GW to get back into the top of the A-10 he had to get P5 level talent. Next year's recruits are not P5 level talent. We succeeded with transfers from P5 schools in the past. Armwood, Creek, Cavanaugh. Sina. Hopefully JC can replicate that success. Getting transfers from schools like MSM, Buffalo, Binghampton, is not going to get us out of this hole. JC wants to win in the A-10 and against P5 schools, not win the NEC or Patriot League!

Re: Transfer Season 2020

ML said he wanted to recruit Big East talent...all I know is we could have....

Re: Transfer Season 2020

At least we're not Witchita State right now.  They've already had 5 players announce their intention to transfer and Jeff Goodman is reporting more may be coming...

Jeff Goodman @GoodmanHoops

Grant Sherfield, 6-2, 190, G, Fr., (8.1 ppg)
Erik Stevenson, 6-4, 200, G, Soph., (11.1 ppg, 4.7 rpg)

Jeff Goodman @GoodmanHoops·4m
Told there might be more Wichita State defections, per source.

Re: Transfer Season 2020

Syracuse also had some crazy transfers this year, as their entire backup backcourt (Brycen Goodine, Howard Washington and Jalen Carey).  Don't think any of them would be a great fit here.  While they are all bigger, athletic guards (which is what Syracuse needs for the 2-3 zone), none of them can shoot from outside which I think would be a pre-requisite.

Saw Matthew Moyer on our list.  He's another old Syracuse guy.  He was top 100 recruit out of high school, is super athletic and has talented, but has just never seemed to be able to put it all together.  He's similar to DJ Williams.  I'm not sure how we'd fit on this team, but he would be an interesting pickup.
