GW games on YouTube

A little while back on the old board someone posted links to some memorable GW games on YouTube, I wanted to post them again here. They include the weekend GW slapped around Michigan State and then Maryland at the BB&T Classic, and the comeback win against UNC-Wilmington in the NCAA Tournament.

Re: GW games on YouTube

I know the first game brings back bad memories for anyone who was a GW fan back then, but its interesting that someone(a Temple fan) uploaded such an obscure game.

Re: GW games on YouTube

They also sell some of the games on DVD, such as 2006 vs UNC-Wilmington and 1993 vs Michigan. Those are the only ones I can find on Amazon tho.

Re: GW games on YouTube

I do believe Ramon Rivas was limited to 30 points in that 1989 game (not to spoil the fun of watching it, but that game was not the "1" in the1-27 season).

Re: GW games on YouTube

Anyone know of any GW games that you can watch online? I found this one, GW vs Xavier at the Smith Center in the 96-97 season. It's one of the Mike King games!

Re: GW games on YouTube

If you search for us on YouTube and filter by videos > 20 minutes you can find a lot of games, unfortunately a lot of them are losses.  As a trigger warning, the entire VCU/GW "Inbounds Pass" game is on Youtube.  I would rather get Corona than watch that again.

In any event, here is a GW win, us vs. Maryland in the Franklin Classic at the MCI Center I think from 1997: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vLoTMM1plgE

Hahah oh no. And good idea for the >20 minutes. Amazon used to sell DVDs of the NCAA tourney games but they seem to be no longer available.

Re: GW games on YouTube

Our win against Harvard from 2017. Not the prettiest of games from an offensive standpoint as neither team managed to hit 60 points.

Re: GW games on YouTube

My Dad took me to THIS 1995 Rutgers GW game, I was in High School in NJ looking at GW, that's the first GW game I attended. this is awesome, thanks for posting!  To be honest on that day as a kid who grew up rooting for Rutgers I was rooting for Rutgers, but that changed very shortly.

I confess, the 70s black and white video is hard to watch but the 95 game is really cool to see.

Pretty cool stuff, I've never seen a GW 80s game so that was cool to take a look at too.
Are the 1993 NCAA wins on youtube?  I've seen the Fab 5 Michigan game, that's very cool for those looking for some peak GW moments diversion

One day, we shall be back in a Sweet 16 game, one way or another.  Huge upsets, somehow.

Re: GW games on YouTube

Great job guys, I didn't realize all these GW games are now on youtube. I thought it was maybe 3 or 4, the Sweet 16 loss to Michigan/The Fab 5 being the most notable!! This list can't be complete without including games from the Pops-Mike Hall-Pinnock-Elliott teams!!

Re: GW games on YouTube

Say what you want about Karl Hobbs, but the caliber of talent on those teams was tremendous

15 years later I remain amazed seeing it.

Re: GW games on YouTube

I’ll always wonder what would have happened with Hobbs if the Washington’s post didn’t run the BS fake high school article or the administration didn’t kneecap the program after that.  Maybe Hobbs flaws as a coach would have still come out like they did in the following few seasons.  However, if he kept bringing in the same kind of talent, who knows what happens.

Dr Mike wrote:

Hobbs was a terrific coach and recruiter. It is the GW administration, both athletic and university wide, that through him and the basketball players under the bus. The administration not standing with Hobbs made it impossible to recruit. Word was out in the basketball community that GW was a fraud. Plus, it become very clear GW was not interested in big time basketball. Happy with occasional success. By contrast Georgetown would have stood tall and supported John Thompson. Told the world, we are a private university and will do as we please, plus all the layers were approved by the NCAA clearing house. end of story. But, GW inexperienced and afraid, let the story keep running nd lost.

Exactly. For all the talk about how PN ruined GW basketball, the actions taken against Hobbs ruined what would've been an even higher ceiling program than what ML was building.  If GW stood behind Hobbs I believe we could've made a run to an elite eight. He may have eventually left for a bigger conference like Jarvis, but there is no question Hobbs knew how to recruit and how to coach and could've dominated the A-10 for years.

Re: GW games on YouTube

Someone I know used to say "Don't look back.  Look Forward."  I'm glad Tonya and JC are here now.  I trust they (and others who have their ears) looked at our history, and have learned, both bad and good.
Myself, I think the future could be bright, and I'm looking forward.   Not a bad way to live
