Re: Other Games - November

The A10 actually has 2 afternoon games today, one is a conference game, I guess they are playing games at all times of the day now since the everyone is having virtual classes. Some of you may have missed this because it occurred at the same time as GW's game against William & Mary, but Rutgers won at Maryland by double-digits, they were pretty much in control from start to finish. Rutgers has a great trio of guards in Ron Harper Jr.(he had 27 in this game), Geo Baker and Jacob Young, the 3 of them dominated Maryland.

UMass at La Salle            noon   ESPN+
Richmond at Vanderbilt    1:00    SEC Network

Butler at #7 Villanova        7   FS1  -  Jair Bolden may start for Butler. I wrote may because this will be Butler's second game of the year, while Villanova has played 5 or 6. Butler's first game was around Thanksgiving.

Fordham has cancelled its final two non-conference games and will open Atlantic 10 play on 12/30 against GW, per release.

Re: Other Games - November

Glad his condition seems to be improving.  Scary stuff.
Texas Tech lost to Kansas by a point, two teams to watch out for come tourney time and Mac McClung looks like an NBA player.  Huge loss for Gtown.

Also, if we are going to start deleting threads, might as well take down the 75% trying to fire our 2nd year coach 11 seconds into a long rebuild.

Re: Other Games - November

UMass sophomore Tre Mitchell scored 37 in a win at La Salle a few days ago, so it looks like he will take that next step into becoming a dominant player this year. Davidson won at Rhode Island last night. I'm thinking McClung didn't like Ewing or he didn't like being at Georgetown because Georgetown's offense would have revolved around him this year. It looks like he plays the same way at Texas Tech. Now that Fordham will not play a game for the first month of the season, how will GW scout them? Look at last year's film?

Hofstra at St. Bonaventure     2  ESPN+  - this will be the Bonnies second game of the year
Ole Miss at Dayton                2:30  NBC SportsNetwork
Delaware at La Salle             4:30  NBC SportsNetwork
St.Joe's at #7 Villanova         9       FS1  - St.Joe's hasn't played since an OOC tournament around Thanksgiving. They lost all 3 games(close losses) of that tournament, they could be a lot better this year with their newcomers

Good slate today T, capped by #1 Gonzaga vs #3 Iowa, as good as it gets

Re: Other Games - November

Gonzaga hangs 99 points on # 3 Iowa.  27 for Jalen Suggs, who looks like the Wooden Player of the Year early candidate. (vs Garza, who had another huge game for Iowa)

Calipari's 1 and dones are about to drop to 1-5.  a few minutes left down 9

Re: Other Games - November

Kentucky did lose that game, their 5th in a row, the worst start in school history in 94 years.

Re: Other Games - November

Another nice win for Shaka's Texas squad over freshman sensation Cade Cunningham and Oklahoma State.  Shaka Smart landed no freshman slouch of his own in Greg Brown who went for 24 points and 14 boards in just 26 minutes.  Battle of TOP TEN teams on Jan. 2 when Texas travels to Kansas.

Rutgers defeats #13 Illinois and climbs to #11 in the AP, undefeated, best team in many decades in NJ

Meanwhile, trouble mounts in Lexington:

Re: Other Games - November

I'm happy for Rutgers because after last season was cancelled, I wasn't sure whether they could match last season's success and break their streak of missing the NCAA tournament(Rutgers last NCAA tourney appearance was 1990-1991), but they appear to be a lot better this year. Texas freshman Greg Brown was one of the top 10 recruits in the country, Shaka Smart now has a BCS Blue-Blood type of team where he has very good returning players along with a one-and-done type of freshman.

St.Joe's at #6 Tennessee    right now   SEC Network

I just saw that George Mason beat VMI 68-66 earlier today.

Re: Other Games - November

Mazzulla had 17 points and 6 rebounds (on 7-11 shooting) in his Catamount debut against UMass Lowell. Vermont surprisingly lost the game, although it was on the road. That first game back for teams that shut down for COVID always prove to be tough.

Hampton picked up their second win of the season, 67-55 over Armel's former squad Charleston Southern.
Delaware lost at home to Morgan State 65-59.
A well coached, but mediocre Bryant squad knocked off UMass on the road, 93-88.
Jair had a rough shooting night, finishing with just 6 points and 3 rebounds on 2-8 shooting for Butler in a losing effort to a resurgent SIU Saluki squad. Bryan Mullins has done a good job so far in Carbondale.
St. Joe's fell as expected to a good Tennessee squad 102-66.

Re: Other Games - November

Despite the upgrade in talent, St.Joe's appears to be just as bad as they were last year, Tennessee is potentially a Final 4 team, but I still wanted to see St.Joe's be more competitive than they were. UMass also lost to Northeastern earlier this year, so that could be 2 conference teams(besides Fordham) that aren't a lot better than GW right now.

The Dude,  signing Aminu Mohammed buys Ewing at least one more year because if Georgetown finishes with a terrible record this season(which is entirely possible), there may have been calls for Ewing to be fired. A.Mohammed could be a program-changing type of player, especially if he stays for more than a year.

Kentucky loses their 6th straight game.

Calipari "Coached" the entire game with his mask under his chin.  Nice to see he takes the pandemic seriously

#1 recruiting class in the country, 1-6 after 7 games.

Re: Other Games - November

At least Kentucky was competitive in this loss to Louisville so that could be considered progress, but it is interesting to see the 1-and-done strategy backfire for him for this season.

Duke's women's basketball team has decided to end their season. We've talked about whether or not college basketball should be played, and a poster brought up that each individual school has the authority to cancel their season, not the NCAA. Duke's women decided not to play. You guys think a men's program would decide not to play? Or would the financial losses of not completing a season again, cause the majority of schools to play the entire season regardless of COVID cases and cancellations? I don't think any men's team would cancel the season because of the financial losses, but if they did, would they still get a slice(however big or small) of the TV and NCAA tournament revenue?

Re: Other Games - November

Mason loses to Norfolk State 68-65.

The play they called up after the timeout wasn’t much better than our last two games but they did get TWO shots off before the buzzer.

Re: Other Games - November

FWIW The A10 claims 4 spots in the Athletic Mid-Major Top 10.
I don’t think anything more need be said about how rough this year could be.
