I watched some of DJ Harvey's games at Vanderbilt this year and it appears as if the knee injuries have taken away some of the explosiveness/athleticism he had at DeMatha and his freshman year at Notre Dame. He can still be a highly productive player at GW with his 3 point shooting and post play, he could play both forward spots.
Penn State has a local player in junior Myles Dread, a combo guard who played at Gonzaga. Penn State just had 5 guys transfer, so it's entirely possible that he'll transfer at some point too. He'd be a good fit at GW playing off the ball with Bishop.
GWRising, I'm not gonna ask for the name(no need to out anyone here) but is the handler you are talking about an AAU coach/runner? I'd give Elijah Wood a pass on de-committing from Tulane because they fired the coach. I agree with you about his bad choices, why would you commit to a losing program like Tulane as a high school junior? The reason I'd like E.Wood is because he has the perfect measurables(height, athleticism, etc.) to be an ideal swingman at GW.

Yes a local trainer/coach/AAU guy. Yes, Elijah definitely looks the part. Unfortunately, the old adage applies: Never judge a book by its cover. He's simply not close to being good enough to play at GW.

All 5 Penn St starters in the portal, plus their backup center. That has to be a record. And if Myles Dread is in the portal too, that’s 7 of their 8 man rotation.

We have our first "heard from"

Monmouth graduate transfer George Papas tells @stockrisers he’s heard from Wake Forest, Georgia, Tulsa, George Washington, Delaware, and UMKC. Averaged over 12 points per game on 44.2% shooting and 39% from three.
You might remember George as the guy who stole the ball from a Kansas player in garbage time down 55 to dunk:

If Heath does decide to leave Boston College, he may be trying to land at an equivalent level of competition, but he attended Woodrow Wilson in DC and perhaps Ricky can help out in the pitch.

Thoughts on Stevens? Like Heath he would have a connection with Lindo. From the tape looks like he'd be a good fit for us as a guy who potentially could form a good multi-year core with Bishop and Lindo.
Offline
Please say "no" to Heath. He strikes me as a high usage combo guard who likes to score. Seems like we have one of those. If you bring him in to play point, what does that say to Brayon Freeman? They would be one class year apart. While we have obviously not seen Brayon yet against college competition, he has done enough as a high level prep star to conclude that he ought to be just fine at GW. And, I would like to see Tyler develop. Let's bring in some big guys which the team could really use. Instead of recruiting over a guy who hasn't even arrived yet.

I believe Jay Heath, Dimingus Stevens and Lindo were all teammates on Wilson's 2017-2018 squad. That team may have won the D.C. state title game at Smith Center. Stevens is athletic and can knock down 3's, he can probably play shooting guard and small forward. Heath may be listed as a point guard but he plays off the ball most of the time, he could be a fit for GW because he can shoot and overpower guards to score. One or both would be good pick-ups for GW because it should establish a stronger recruiting pipeline with D.C. players. Wilson has been the dominant D.C .public school for the last 6 or 7 years.
Maybe Marfo and Terry Nolan Jr. can come back to GW!! HA! But seriously, Marfo's situation could be a cautionary tale about dominant mid-major guys transferring up. He led the nation in rebounding and dominated at Quinnipiac last year, and eventually became an after-thought at Texas A&M. I'm assuming Toro will take advantage of the free year and also look to transfer from St.John's.

While this was in jest, it does point to an area ripe for a transfer. Someone who can rebound like Marfo is exactly what we need. Ricky's stepped in, but we need more, especially with Moyer seemingly unlikely to take advantage of the extra year.
We do have enough point guards, though as an oversimplification, another big hole we need to patch, is a SG who can shoot from 3--or anyone who can shoot from 3 at this point, would be a big help. Lots to replace 3 pointwise in Battle and Jack's departures this years. Maceo would have helped. Jamison, especially is a big loss.
So hopefully, we can find adequate replacements.

DJ Harvey no longer an option
Jon Rothstein @JonRothstein·56m
Source: Vanderbilt transfer D.J. Harvey has committed to Detroit. Huge get for Mike Davis.
To jf's comments, getting a rebound-specialist big would be fine as a last minute addition, but we need points points points. Hope we can find a big that can offer both.

Yeah, I wrote that in jest, but Marfo would fill a need. A few years ago, a Georgetown transfer(Agou?) started out at Louisville, transferred twice, one of those stops being Georgetown, then ended up back at Louisville for his final year. I'm sure there are a few others who ended up transferring back to their original school. Dimingus Stevens, Jay Heath, Monmouth grad transfer George Papas and Penn State guard/local product Myles Dread(if he decides to transfer) are all guys who could provide 3's and scoring for GW.
I'm interested to see what schools are interested in Marfo this time around. Remember last year he was one of the most sought after transfers.
When will Moyer decide if he's gonna use the extra year or turn pro? I think he showed enough(averaged near a double-double this year) to get an overseas contract and possibly some NBA tryouts.

Saw that Symir Torrence is transferring from Marquette. Was a recruit of ours and if I remember correctly we made his final list before choosing Marquette. He's listed as a PG so may not fit with Bishop, Brelsford, and Freeman on the roster but figured it would be worth it to flag just in case given our connection to him before.

I believe Torrence was a Mojo recruit. If I had to guess he might be headed to Albany as the school just hired one of the assistants from Marquette and Torrence is from upstate NY.

Ironically, Marfo did transfer back to a previous school, Quinnipiac.

Think about what Kevin Marfo experienced while at GW and ask yourself if you were him, would you play again for GW?
Offline
Interesting that Marfo went back to Quinnipiac.
Something like the A-10 level might have been a good compromise fit. Of course, doubt coming here even if he somehow would want to, was on the table or would even be allowed, as it would bring up memories the university has tried mightily to suppress.
Maybe he felt that comfort level (he was severely misused by us) was more important than maximizing his
free agent status.
We hear a lot about how so and so, our transfers didn't work out somewhere--or occasionally did. Wonder if that measuring stick is really the best way to look at things because it might be they'd still be fine or even better at GW. The move just impacted their game for reasons that could be basketball but not related to their actual A-10 ability, like the coach and strategy and new recruits at their position. Or it could just be the fit or even stress of adapting to a new environment when you were comfortable in the old one.
Maybe its more than their basketball ability. It could just be the new environment.
Someone who would be successful here--can think of numerous we've discarded or lost--might not fit in with a new team for reasons unrelated to their ability to thrive back at GW--or possibly a different school than the one they transferred into.
