Jair Bolden was Butler's leading scorer vs. St. John's with 17, in a 69-57 loss. He also led the team in minutes played with 38. On the downside, although he played 38 minutes, he had zero assists. 1 rebound and shot 6-14.

Jair was, and remains, the farcical caricature of James Bishop. Instead of scoring 20 and handing out 9 dimes he floats around looking to chuck up shots.
Worth noting that Butler has fallen in the last 4 years from The Kethan Savage Sweet 16 team to a 3-7 league bottom dweller.

this was against his old friend Toro, who only played 7 minutes

Jair must be hating himself - leaving a 3-7 GW team (defeated by powerhouses Hampton, UMBC, Navy, etc) for a 3-7 Big East team. Life sure sucks for Jair!

38 minutes, zero assists, 1 rebound, and 6-14 shooting? Shot attempts seem low.

Lower than his farcical caricature - who was 5-19 today (1-5 in 3's) with team leading 9 turnovers.

Mike Hall going to Spain to play in Tizona (Burgos) in the same division as KevLar. Other ex-GW targets in that division that I saw are Duje Dukan, Arnaud Adala-Moto and Michael Carrera.
Cavs plays in the highest division in Spain (ACB) and I saw that he’s starting now and his team is in third place after Real Madrid and Barcelona. His team is also top of their group in the Champions league stage.

Tenerife´s next game is Feb 7 against Baskonia. Team got a new sponsor this week, not clear if the Iberostar name will stay or if it will change to Lenovo, don´t worry it will still be the same team.
Spain´s second division is probably about the same level as German and Belgian first divisions and ahead of the English league, but not as good as the French or Italian first divisions.

Just a reminder for those of you looking for something to watch before the NFL game today that Cavs and Tenerife play Baskonia at 2pm Eastern. Baskonia are defending champs and currently in 4th (Tenerife is in third). Baskonia features Alec Peters, who Cavs went up against in the 2016 NIT Championship game.

Former A10 All-defensive team honoree Pierra Henry hits a driving shot with 29 secs to play and then gets a rebound in the final second to lift Baskonia to an 81-79 win at Tenerife. Cavanaugh had 8 points and 6 boards in a game where he had his mins limited by early foul trouble.

The Basketball Champions League is in its round of 16 and Tyler Cavanaugh (Tenerife) and Tony Taylor (Karşıyaka) are still competing. Lasan (Cholet) was eliminated in the last round. Former GW targets Ish Wainright and Bonzie Colson play on Strasbourg.

Patricio Garino´s Zalgiris Kaunas is currently in 10th place in the EuroLeague after getting clobbered by Real Madrid yesterday. Pato has not played this season after having ankle surgery late last year.

Jair Bolden is having a good year as a senior leader on Butler.
Just imagine what we could have done the last 5 years with the talent we had coming in and the system in place!
Oh well, one can certainly dream.
Time to come back to reality and get ready for our A-10 Tourney play-in game.

Of course players like Jair have 1 or 2 extra years to mature and learn so if Jair e.g. had stayed he would have graduated (barring injury) already. It's difficult to make a fair comparison from the current Jair to the hypothetical Jair who stayed.

I agree BC, but although ML's last recruiting class would have all have graduated by now,but I agree with the context of Joel's post, namely we lost some very talented players from that class that we did not get to enjoy over the prior 4 years.

Excellent point, the coach abusing the players, and then being fired after an investigation found he was abusing the players might have said the program back a tad.
JC will turn it around.

I don’t know much of the science of decomposition, but I didn’t think after all these years there would be anything left of this ML horse to beat. Turns out I’m wrong.

I know that every post JoelJoseph makes here is about re-litigating the ML vs administration feud to benefit ML, but this is a REALLY bad post.
Jair is not having a good year at Butler. Not at all.
His offensive efficiency is down to about 100, and it’s below 100 in conference play. He is shooting a career low from inside the arc - worse than he did at GW. His three point shooting, which was an impressive 41.2% last year at South Carolina, has dropped to 36.1%.
He doesn’t pass at all now and, if you watch butler, is relegated to the 5th option/stand in the corner role. In fact his assist rate is BY FAR a career low 5.6% (people here complained he didn’t pass enough, but his assist rate was 21.4 and 18.6 here, it was 12.2 at SC and now is just an anemic 5.6%).
As a 5th year senior, he’s also playing arguably worse defense than he did at GW. His steals rate is a career low and his block rate is worse than it was at GW.
He lost his starting job 4 games ago, and only got it back when Aaron Thompson, their best guard, got hurt.
And, since you praise his senior leadership, the team is 9-13, having its worst year ever under LaVall Jordan, and has dropped 85 spots in KenPom. Finally, not that this really means anything, but his price for fantasy college hoops on draft kings has dropped through the floor - comparable to bench players even though he’s still playing over 30 minutes - because no one who follows college hoops at that level will touch him.
I don’t disagree with what you were trying to accomplish - reminding us all for the 80 millionth time that we’d be better off with ML as coach -but yeah, tell us again what a “great” senior season he’s having.
(Also, for the record, Toro barely plays at St John’s, though I think of him as a guy wrecked by injuries, like Iturbe, and Kevin Marfo is only getting about 13 minutes a game for a Texas A&M team that is struggling at 2-8 in conference, and he’s only put up 11 shots this entire year. Those guys almost certainly would have been better players if they had worked under ML’s tutelage, but let’s not overrate how great they are as 5th year seniors).
