Thank you for posting this PKGW. Stumbled on it about 5 minutes into the show. A new look Coach Christian. Coach professed lots of love for Brown. Said it is amazing watching him grow. Dean improved passing, ball handling and shooting (It had no place to go but up). Harris looks really good. Could be a 6'6"point guard. Also great defense and is healthy. Loves Freeman's creativity and, tenacious defense. Nixon will be a mismatch for everyone due to his size. . (Steve Lavin refers to GW as "the complete package".) Based on what I am hearing, I will change my conference prediction from 12th place to 1st place.

He sure was optimistic about all of the newcomers and holdovers. Was very complimentary of all, and is excited about this team. He spoke if the fine mixture of athleticism and experience.
Sure sounded good and got me excited.
Online!
LSF and Mike K - thanks for the update. Got caught doing yard work and missed it myself lol.
Looking forward to the exhibition game

GW's Raise High show is about to air on NBC Washington in about 10 minutes at 11AM. I would have posted this earlier if I knew.

I watched this show on Saturday. Lots of talk about the amazing connectivity of the team and how there is a lot of love in the locker room.
I so want to believe this guy. Will admit though that it's getting harder.

Platonic love, though. Let's hope.

I think JC is striking the right tone here. Believe me the players know they aren't playing well and they undoubtedly are hearing it from a number of sources. I think JC is right to continue to take a positive public tone and not throw player(s) under the bus. Now what is being said at practice in private might be very different.
There is an old adage in coaching that you try to go the other way meaning that if you are winning you should get on them more and when they are losing you should be more positive. But in public try to get the team's back. I think it stems from John Wooden's famous notion that if you get caught up in criticism or praise it's a weakness. Good coaches try to keep the criticism in house and defend or praise their players in public.

Potomac love actually

GWRising, I agree with this but only up to a point. JC's own credibility will come into play if he spends too much time smilingly pointing out how connected his team is as the losses continue to mount. It will reach a point where nobody will want to hear about how much love is in his locker room.
There's a great deal of middle ground between throwing individuals under the bus and telling the world the sun is shining during a thunderstorm.

Judging by this board, I'm not sure there is anything he could say or do absent winning games that will have any effect on what people think of JC. So he should keep being him and hope he can get this turned around.

I'd Be Stoked By Real Improvement. When you are struggling this much ripping off a win streak exceeding 2 games is Santa Claus Territory. Figure out your best guys and play them. (Very sophisticated analysis I know.)

I'd rather him look into the camera on his show and discuss what they do during their practices to help improve things like knowing when and when not to switch on screens or how they run their half court offense than I would listening to him talk about how much love and connectivity his 2-8 team has.

He's got enough issues to deal with ... doesn't need to be giving out free scouts. In other words, the level of detail you would want is not going to be given.

We could have told you what the coach's show says without looking at it. At this point, I just erase it from the DVR to save the humiliating platitudes.
At some point, without ripping individual players, it may be time to at least indicate that we could
play better and he could coach better. Do believe there are actually coaches who admit that publicly.
Part of the cynicism is that while we always hear focus on the warm fuzzies, the love has been selectively applied during JC's tenure.
So far, unless we make a really big turnaround that involves a decent winning A-10 record, breaking all the eggs has resulted in a very unpalatable omelet. Despite the upgraded ingredients.

Couple of examples of coaches you may have heard about, in games against teams slightly better than Cal St-Fullerton, UMass Lowell, etc:
=18px“Roy [Williams] had his team really prepared. It’s senior night and their fans were great, and I didn’t have my team prepared the way they did,” coach Mike Krzyzewski said. “Coming off these two tough losses, I thought the things we did in practice were really good, but they didn’t come into fruition – they didn’t work out. That’s on me, because they really knocked us back. They really played at a high level of intensity, and their defense was outstanding and knocked us back. They were excellent and we were not very good, and that’s my responsibility.”........
"Played much better defense the second half, played with way better energy, spirit and got us back into it," Gonzaga coach Mark Few said. "And then, again, we just weren't good that last four minutes."

I mean, there are any number of things that need to be worked on. It's not his job to convince random internet posters. What would doing that solve exactly, going into detailed technical explanations on a random basic cable show? I agree with others saying keep being himself, it doesn't matter what he says anyway if the team keeps losing, or starts winning, in my opinion. It's all results and better to stay positive.

Alright so this is by far the least important thing, but every team we play, JC describes them as a great team. STFU he called a great team, BU the same, I think he called UCSD a great team (or similar verbiage). He talked about how Hood College runs great offense so it would be a test for us.
I am all for building teams up and not taking teams for granted, but there’s at a point at which calling every team great means the players probably tune you out.
I’d be cool if he praised specific aspects of a team - UCSD is a great passing team, or BU has a really good experienced post players and their guys know how to play around him, etc - but if all he truly thinks all these are great teams, then I guess it’s no wonder we are 2-8 against a fairly weak schedule.
I realize these are just platitudes, but relying so much on the same platitude hurts his credibility.
