This is a great showing so far, I didn't post a prediction but I leaned towards Maryland winning easily! Maryland doesn't have an Bamisile's speed and athleticism, he has about 14 so far in the 1st half. Another interesting aspect of this game is, Brendan Adams played on the UConn team that lost to Maryland in the NCAA tournament last year, so he probably has some extra motivation for this game

Dean a nice surprise defensively so far.
And with third try the charm, that's why you hit the offensive boards.

I don’t know how long this will last-but most exciting team we’ve had maybe ever.

Love seeing Freeman battling like this. He’s going to be a gooood player.
And Joey Bam looks like the best player on the floor who is under 6’11.

For all the UMD misses, we've had a few close to the basket we should've had as well.

Brown needs to work on his footwork

Refs generally not going to be kind to us on MD home court.

We look like we belong. This does not feel like a fluke. We might not be ready to sustain this for 40 minutes yet, but we just look like a team that can compete with Maryland.
Agree. Team looks totally prepared and competing.

Wahab....yikes

Overall I cannot complain but why take a contested shot with 7 seconds left in the half

Maybe put Samuels in briefly to harass Wahab a bit?
Not the bulk to stop him, really

30 -29 GW at half.

Yeah I for sure thought we would run out the clock. Kind of a bummer to give UMD momentum into the half.

We're pretty fortunate Turgeon isn't finding a way to get Wahab more touches because we have no answer for him. Bamisile's efficiency is justifying some of the ball hogging so far, but it feels like it'll come back to bite us if we aren't able to get Bishop and Adams some catch and shoot looks. Dean was very very effective when he was on the court, he's just got to figure out how to stay out of foul trouble. Hoping for 20 more good minutes.

shoot, but shoot with not enough time to run the court

Samuels isn’t even close to being able to guard Wahab.
But the issue isn’t Wahab backing us down or anything. He’s getting his points almost entirely when our center has to help on penetration - either putbacks when our center goes to help on a shot or on a dish off penetration. I’m fine with how we are defending him - it’s the penetration that’s hurting us. But We aren’t going to shut them out so I’m good with the D.

Also, so nice to see Ricky Lindo making threes. If that becomes consistent, the A10 will have a problem.

Thomas, great questions regarding Turgeon's change of heart regarding OOC scheduling. I'd say a few things are in play. First, I'd say that schools like GW and Mason are in the sweet spot...good enough that they can boost UMD's computer rankings/metrics yet not good enough to realistically pull off the upset. Next, maybe there is finally a realization that Maryland and GW are not going after the same players. And in the rare instances when they are, it's more about a player deciding whether to be a big fish in a small pond (at GW) or becoming a role player (at UMD). A player destined for stardom at Maryland is likely not considering GW. Finally, covid is likely playing a role. To the extent that schools can schedule games requiring bus rides, this is a plus for the sport. UMD might be saying yes right now because it's the prudent thing to do.
Those are some good explanations, I was really curious as to why Turgeon would schedule both GW and George Mason in the same year because as this game is showing tonight, George Mason and/or GW will have enough passion/"want to" to beat or put a scare into "big brother"(Maryland) regardless of the talent advantage Maryland will have. When Maryland and GW played in the BB&T Classic, Maryland had the talent advantage every time (the Pops/Mike Hall teams may have been the only exception and that may never happen again) but GW would beat them or put a scare into them. Sirvaliant's freshman year team comes to mind when I think of a Maryland-GW matchup that looked like a total mismatch, Maryland ended up being a fairly highly seeded NCAA tourney team and GW was an average to below average A-10 team, but GW was able to pull out the win. Results like that is why I assumed Maryland, Georgetown and every other BCS team avoids games with local teams from lesser conferences

Threes continue to be a problem. I dont see that as a core skill for Lindo. We need to see it from Harris, Adams, Bishop and Freeman and so far they are 3-15 combined.
