The week after next, GW will be competing in the first-ever Naples Invitational. FloHoops, the streaming platform of FloSports, will have the coverage. Suffice it to say that their announcers will not be paid by the word.
An ad went out on social media for an unpaid intern to step in and help call the 12 games over a three day period. It appears the college student or recent graduate would have been used primarily as a color analyst though the ad states that they may be on play-by-play for one game as well as used as a sideline reporter.
Am not sure if the brainchild of this was the tournament itself, FloSports, or a collaboration of the two but let's just say that the idea was chastised on social media. Comments ranged from the privileged who can afford to work for free having a leg up on this opportunity to the frugal appearance of this to isn't an unpaid internship supposed to be a learning experience to aren't unpaid internships now illegal?
This was already a tournament without a single major program represented. It's a shame the locale is Naples rather than Orlando because this certainly has a Mickey Mouse feel to it. Suffice it to say that all announcers will now receive payment for their efforts in Naples.

wonder how much Flosports will charge us for the games?

Nothing wrong with a brief unpaid internship for an event, maybe. But calling 12 games?!
As GWMayhem informed us from the comments, doesn't sound like it could or at least should be legal.
Also, what the heck kind of network relies on an unpaid intern, not even one already working there, to call tournament games? We really hit the big time with this "tournament."
We have to get FloHoops to watch it?
Subscribing to and removing FloHoops was the bane of a GW fan's existence for awhile. Kind of reminiscent of our relationship with the departed Mr. Gapare.
