Greatest Moment in GW History?

My vote would go to The Sweet 16 run in 1993

Re: Greatest Moment in GW History?

I would say so, but finishing a perfect 16-0 in the A10 in 2006 is a very close second for me. Beating #1 UMass at home with the President in attendance is also way up there.

Good candidates for sure

Several moments in 2006 definitely come to mind!

Re: Greatest Moment in GW History?

With all of these postponements, it feels like the offseason already... Here are my top 11 greatest moments since 1991, when I became a fan of the team. I tried to put these in order of greatness but just couldn't, so they are instead listed in chronological order.
1.  1993 Sweet 16: Received national press, probably the best moment for me.
2.  1994 NCAA Tourney win over UAB: Any Tourney win is great since we only have 4 in program history.
3.  1994 win over No. 12 Syracuse.
4.  1995 win over No. 1 UMass with President Clinton in attendance.
5.  2004 wins on consecutive days over No. 11 Michigan State and No. 12 Maryland.
6.  2005 A10 Tourney Championship: GW's first.
7.  2006 perfect 16-0 A10 regular season, leading to being ranked No. 6 in the nation (surpassed only by one week at No. 5 in the 1950s).
8. 2006 NCAA Tourney win over UNC-Wilmington: Not as great as GW's other Tourney wins since it took OT to beat a lower seeded team, but still a Tourney win.
9.  2007 A10 Tourney Championship: GW's last
10.  2015 win over No. 6 Virginia.
11.  2016 NIT Championship.

I agree that chronological order pretty much gets it for me as well.  I'd move the 1994 moments down to the bottom and then move everything up two spots.

Re: Greatest Moment in GW History?

For the one moment in GW history, the Coaches show this morning showed Sarah Jo Lawrence’s put back against Cal in 2008.

Pretty sexist of folks here to not mention Sarah Jo´s putback, the women´s win over Rutgers in 1991 or the trip to the Elite 8.
Not to mention missing the 1957 Sun Bowl win, the 1961 conference championship by men´s basketball, ColonialsBall´s 2002 upset of Richmond in the A10 Series and water polo´s deep run in last season´s NCAA tournament.

Re: Greatest Moment in GW History?

If we consider women’s basketball, the greatest moment was the 1995 NCAA game against Drake where the Colonials defeated Drake after coming from 17 points down in the second half.  I still remember Debbie Hemery wrestling a loose ball from a Drake player to keep the comeback going.

I restricted my list to GW Men's Hoops, since that is the name of this board, and noted that I only included those moments since I became a fan in 1991, since I have limited knowledge of what happened before. But if I could amend my list to include my limited knowledge of pre-1991 men's hoops, I would add the following, in chronological order:
12.  1943 Southern Conference tournament champs: Beat Duke for the title
13.  1954 Southern Conference regular season and tourney champs/NCAA Tourney bid: when the NCAA Tourney only had 16 teams
14.  1955 No. 5 national ranking: highest ranking in program history
15.  1956 Southern Conference regular season co-champions: with West Virginia
16.  1961 Southern Conference tourney champs/NCAA Tourney bid

Re: Greatest Moment in GW History?

Amazing that GW and Duke were in the same league.

Looks like those mid 50s were a real golden era
